PlayStation4 FW 1.5 details

Sony I don't care what you do to the PS4/Vita,

JUST LET ME DELETE ANY TROPHY OFF MY ACCOUNT PLEASE

If you mean already unlocked + synced trophies, that's not gonna happen.
If you mean 0% trophy lists, that might happen.

What happened? You used a save hack and got busted? I'm not judging. Just curious.

Well one system was Cell processor and split RAM with barely any devoted to OS. This one is more like a PC processor and also over 1GB RAM devoted to the OS. I would be utterly shocked and disgusted if the PS4's OS wasn't leagues above PS3 in every single aspect.

Understandable, but the 360 wasn't much better and look at how it handled updates. Regardless, I'm hoping both new consoles make updating painless!

Don't like being Mr. Negative, but no suspend/resume at launch really sucks. As the father of a 1 year old, this is actually something I'm really looking forward to. Hope I'll at least be able to pause everything whenever I want (ala Vita) so I can change diapers when needed and not when Solid Snake has finished talking to Otacon about nuclear waste.

wondering 'oooh! what features will be missing?!' and rubbing your thighs in anticipation of bad news?

I hope both companies manage strong launches and are able to maintain their respective momentum.

Healthy competition benefits us, the consumer. I haven't seen two competing brands work this hard at trying to win over the customers in a long time.

So no suspend/resume at launch? bummer....

And fw 1.0 must have been only the basic of the basics, hopefully the download doesn't take long...

- suspend mode
- uploading to youtube
- playing my own mp3s with the background music player
- save videos and screenshots directly to the HDD
- file transfer from&to external HDDs

if this rudimentary stuff (of which most was already possible on PS3 in some form) is not there within the first WEEKS, I will be really disappointed.

We don't know yet whether or not Music Unlimited will also play your imported mp3 files or not, nor do we know whether or not we can save screenshots and videos to the HDD instead of immediately sharing them.

Let's wait and hear what they say, or see the manual before jumping to too many conclusions.

300MB isn't much of a concern as long as your connection's not shitty. Though network congestion could be an issue.

It might already be baked in and this is an enhancement not the exclusive feature.

These are additional features and not the full feature set.

There are a lot of assumptions going on in this thread... These are add-ons to already existing features mostly and they will not be limited just to what is listed in this update...

relax.

Yeah but I think the fear here is that if there's a generic music app it won't play music in the background while you game, due to the wording in the 1.5 details. Seems worded to imply that only the Music Unlimited app will serve that function.

Hope I'm wrong.

I'd brace yourself, Microsoft hold loads of patents around these kind of things . That could be the terrifying truth as to why it's not there.

Another reason to hate the patent system, if that's the case.

Just because somebody is first to implement this, which is probably as simple as having an OS variable about whether the OS is playing music or not, and the game not playing its own music based on this variable. Pretty obvious. That's the only way I can imagine they got the patent as something new because it actually falls under multitasking and if there's any multitasking patent it should be public domain by now.

Wonder if the 1.0 fw will allow execution of unencrypted/unsigned code as the PSP 1.0fw..

Anyway, one would hope that Sony has server/bandwidth to handle the initial load.

I may not be much of an MP gamer to be honest but christ I do very much hope that the mono headset provided and audio chips / network stuff / code / blah blah is much clearer this time round.
I've got an 18mbit down, 1mbit up link - sure it's not amazing but other apps can do voice fine on this, yet (most) PS3 voices sound like complete shit :/

EDIT: Also anyone know how good the mic array and FOV are on the camera? I sit /only/ 8' from my TV and the mic is pretty weak on the PS3 camera and FOV too wide - and I sit FAR closer than most people. If I stand up and lean forward far enough I can touch my TV without needing to move my feet at all.

Lol, I just hate having trophies show that aren't 100% on my list, it really bugs me.. OCD kinda thing

I'm more worried about that. The amount of people trying to connect to the servers day one is going to be insane and I doubt things are going to run smooth.

It's a shame this kind of practice seems to be standard now.

They should clarify it before they released the patch notes. But I don't think there'll be an issue. They're trying to sell consoles and even though I understand why they'd want you to sign up for a steaming service they stand to make way more money from people buying games than subscribing to the service.

lol, this is funny.. think a bit - 80+ million PS3's sold, people download 20 GB games for PS3 and it works... why would 300 MB download from few hundred thousand users be a problem? Numbers are almost irrelevant.

Camera is 85 degrees. But the cameras are better so it should be better for you.

So they shouldn't improve things after they manufactured? You do realize that waiting for the software to become stable before manufacturing millions of units would be pure insanity and completely inefficient right?

Hoping there are no launch day server issues, but please remember that this will be running on the same network that releases updates for several millions of ps3 users to download simultaneously. That number dwarfs the day one ps4 numbers by far.

I swear if I have to pay for MU just to listen to my own songs ingame, I'm gonna blow a gasket.

Are you very very young? Do you know what a console launch actually is?....
I'd be surprised if a 30mb patch took only an hour on launch day for a console.

And I'm sure you'll be able to install from USB stick, whilst downloading it from their website.

On Dev kits you can save images and videos out to the HDD (and I think. USB). They aren't running FW1.5 yet.

I understand the logistics and the advantages of it, doesn't mean I wouldn't rather them having the OS ready before shipping the units.

I don't know their server situation but recently we have seen big companies having troubles with a lot of people connecting to their servers at the same time so I hope this isn't a repeat of that.

The biggest issue here is the no stop/resume function at launch, that's the real bummer for me.

Yep, no doubt a 300mb file which up to a million people want internationally will be good to go on their website. It's totally immune to console-launch-mania.

I'm not concerned with bandwidth issues. A couple million PS4's downloading a patch is nothing compared to 80 million PS3's downloading firmware all on the same day

I found it funny when Ninty announced that they were having a day one update, everybody laughed and mocked that they didn't have it finished yet.
Granted, this probably won't be as slow as that download, but that's not the point.

Wasn't the Wii U update enormous though? I remember it being in excess of 1gb (heard all the way up to 5gb but that can't be right). 300mb is smaller then my iOS 7 update on my iPhone. Not really that big

No YouTube? Gameplay vids on Facebook instead? Fucking amateurs, honestly.

We all remember that io7 update going very smoothly right?

EDIT:Blu-ray Disc and DVD player
Users can enjoy not only gaming on their PS4 system, but also Blu-ray and DVD video contents. When using for the first time, users must connect to the internet to activate this feature.

Seriously? Even DVD?

It's PSN. It has every chance to be as slow as the Nintendo download. But it won't be nearly as big as the Nintendo download. I think that exceeded a gig.

You must have not read this thread.

I thought it was weird that this wasn't going to be expected, at that time. "Lol day one patch on Wii U? Ninty must suck dick" *insert everyone else doing it too*

It doesn't matter what people are saying in this thread, the amusement is that the thread exists to begin with.
