Please Explain why Diet Coke is more popular than regular

I like the taste better and it doesn't have 70 grams of sugar in it

yeah yeah artificial sweeteners are bad too. I'll take them over the sugar for now

Regular coke is way too sweet for me. I prefer Diet Pepsi over Diet Coke myself.
This right here.

I used to drink a lot of sugary sodas and moved on to other things (water, unsweetened tea), and now I don't know how I managed to down such super sweet stuff so damn often. Diet Coke is kind of a cheat - getting the fizzy soda but without the crazy sugar water. Its not about losing weight or anything.

Tastes better. Regular coke has a syrupy overly sweet taste.
Plus one can of coke has a staggering amount of sugar and calories in it.

Because if they drink their Diet Coke and walk the 10000 steps that their Fitbit wants them to then they're bound to lose weight and look like a supermodel! Plus, it says zero calories, so it's practically naturally flavored sparkling water.

Or at least this is how the people who I know validate their preference.

My Dad has been a diabetic since childhood. As a result we grew up with diet sodas in the house, and we all prefer it now over the sugar stuff.

Myself, regular coke is just too sweet. I'll take a glass of Diet Coke every time.

I'm looking everywhere OP but I can't find evidence of that.

The Coca Cola website itself says regular Coke is still more popular.

Its not really true anymore but Coke Zero was introduced because men weren't buying diet coke, viewing it as a woman's drink. It was marketed towards men and named coke zero to avoid the label diet. For decades the majority of diet coke purchasers were women.

Not really much to do with your question but just more in general how weird marketing things rule our tastes.

Because people are trying to keep enjoying something sweet without getting diabetes.

Diet Coke, like all diet sodas sweetened exclusively with aspartame, is terrible.

Some of y'all that complain about Coke's syrupy mouth-feel (from HFCS, obv) should try some glass-bottled Mexican Coke.
