Please Explain why Diet Coke is more popular than regular

Because if they drink their Diet Coke and walk the 10000 steps that their Fitbit wants them to then they're bound to lose weight and look like a supermodel! Plus, it says zero calories, so it's practically naturally flavored sparkling water.

Or at least this is how the people who I know validate their preference.

How is that a bad thing? At least from your tone, you seem to think it's a bad thing.

Diet Coke, like all diet sodas sweetened exclusively with aspartame, is terrible.

Some of y'all that complain about Coke's syrupy mouth-feel (from HFCS, obv) should try some glass-bottled Mexican Coke.

We actually did a blind taste test at a work event a few years ago and nobody could tell the difference. Plaecbos are amazing drugs.....

Fountain Diet Coke is disgusting.
Canned is alright.

Fountain can be a crap shoot depending on if the machines are set up correctly. There is a Five Guys close to me that used to do the mix terribly, but got fixed eventually. Now, it's the only place where I don't have to decide between Diet Coke and Cherry Coke because I can make Diet Cherry Coke.

Diet pop is fucking *awful* so I'm always surprised. I'd rather drink soda water than diet shit.

Plus... man that OG cane sugar Coke is the besttttt

Because it has less calories? Its why I don't drink classic coke.

I find the Coke Life with natural sugar is a good compromise. Less calories than Classic but better taste than Zero or Diet, and no aspertame.

I love the rather bitter taste of Diet Coke, and I wouldn't drink the too sweet taste of regular Coke even if it had zero calories.

I've heard technically artificial sweeteners are sweeter than sugar, but I don't experience it in that way.

Diet Coke is like piss water, Pepsi Max Cherry for life.

I just hope someone is working on a cure for whatever disease drinking diet soda all the time gives you.

Artificial sweeteners are far sweeter than sugar.

Coke has 39 grams of sugar per 12 ounces, whereas Diet Coke has 180 milligrams of aspartame in the same serving size.

lol right?

I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I drink alcohol like once a month. My food diet is healthier than average. I exercise.

I do drink at least 4 cans of diet soda a day though. It's my vice. Save me future medicine.

considering how rampant type 2 diabetes is in these united states i would love for you to give me a good goddamn reason why you think drinking diet soda is somehow, on average, the more dangerous option

Diet Coke is the only soda I have drank for like the past 15 years. Really been trying to ween off it though(well soda in general).

It's just being rebranded I believe.

No, the new one is a completely different formula and the current coke zero formula is now discontinued. I've tried a version of Coke No Sugar from a different country. I don't know if the US formula will be any different. I've heard a lot of complaints of the difference in taste in other countries and I don't expect the version here to be any different.

Diet coke is 99% water. it's good for you.

lol Diet Coke Zero is completely fine and definitely a far ways better than their regular options.

I miss the Fanta Zero that they use to sell here. Now it's only avail at those crazy Coke fountain machines.

1.) Regular coke is too sweet.
2.) Sweetener is the lesser evil compared to sugar.
3.) I drink diet coke mainly for the caffeine content.

I prefer diet coke to regular.

I'm crazy, but I just like the taste more. Regular coke tastes really sweet to me.

I liked regular coke more than diet up until I was about 20 or 21 or so. Then I switched to diet to lose weight. I was drinking a lot of soda at the time and making the switch helped me drop about 30 lbs, with slightly more exercise and slight attempts to eat better. Eventually I just grew to like diet more.

This was also before coke zero, so diet was really the only zero cal cola that I liked.

I have a 12oz DC at lunch at work each day, but I could probably give it up completely for water ... I just kinda like the treat at lunch because I drink water the rest of the day.

people drink diet because they think it's "healthier" but it is just as bad.

Or, like, people like the taste more.
But what do we know about our own tastebuds, I'm sure you're the expert.

I always figured people were using it as their mixer.

Shitty beer is 4.5-5% ABV and like 200-300 calories.

whiskey & diet is like 90 calories

(if you're only using a shot, that is)

Coke Zero is my preference, but I'll still take Diet Coke over regular. It's less to do with taste though, since all 3 taste like 99% identical. I just think the amount of sugar in regular Coke is obscene and disgusting.

my mixer is more alcohol
if you mix liquor with diet soda it gets you drink faster because your body metabolizes fake sugar faster than real sugar.

Please argue this.

Not the one who said it but: Diet soda has fake sugar, which has been shown to not satisfy the craving of actual sugar. Since the brain wants real sugar, you wind up drinking/eating more to satisfy the craving. Some wind up drinking more diet soda than they would regular, because they think because it's diet they can 'indulge'

As for the OP: Diet Coke was changed to create a taste similar to Pepsi. Couple the preference in taste with a lot of people dieting and finally with a lot of people not drinking pop altogether and you wind up with Diet Coke on top.

Coke Zero, Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke are all disgusting. They taste absolutely fake. I don't mind a regular coke every now and then but I'd much rather have a Sprite or honestly just plain water.
