Please Explain why Diet Coke is more popular than regular

The only time I drink 'full-fat' Coke is when I'm eating a meal at a restaurant and don't want to drink alcohol.

Feels like an extra treat.

This show got on me on a cherry coke zero kick for a bit. I usually drink diet Canada Dry though.
 
Regular Coke is way too sweet, I hate the aftertaste, and it manages to make my teeth have a lot more friction than they normally do. Seriously, my teeth feel like they have two pieces of sandpaper rubbing together after I have a regular Coke.

I'll stick with Coke Zero and after all the stock is out, I'll try whatever the hell their new Zero Sugar brand is that they're apparently replacing Coke Zero with.
 
I'd rather drink nothing than Diet Coke. The artificial sweetener has an unpleasant, chemical taste that leaves me very unsatisfied.
 
Because I can't fit or justify regular coke in my daily calorie budget. Simple.

Before I knew what calories we're I'd drink 3 or 4 cans of coke a day. Then I learned nutrition and switched it for diet. The weight fell off effortlessly.
 
Coke zero is the best. Flavor of coke without the sticky aftertaste. Zero calories is just icing.

Diet drinks taste good if you can get off the real stuff. But you will never transition from one day to the next.

Another thing, diet drinks don't work with sweet food. At least not for me. The mix is well... gross.
 
Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi are absolutely vile. Coke Zero is less vile but still not great.

Pepsi Max and its variants are where it's at. I'm rather enjoying Pepsi Max Ginger at the moment.
 
Because it tastes better. I switched to diet in college and drinking the normal version now I don't understand how I drank it before. It's awful.

Diet Coke Lime is the best.
 
Actually, that's false.

No calories means your leptin levels become too low which causes you to overeat to compensate for the lack of calories, and diet any pop are probably using artificial sweeteners (unless it's stevia) which further damages metabolism.

So same effect as sugar, but less bad. Sugar makes you hungrier and has been shown to be more addictive than hard drugs. It also damages metabolism, gut flora and teeth worse than any of the sweeteners.
 
I drink Coke Zero (not Diet Coke) because I like caffeine but hate black coffee and tea, and my family has a history of diabetes so I'd rather not get my caffeine with a huge helping of sugar.

After I cut normal soda out, it's too sweet anyway now that I'm used to the diet taste.

Huh? No calories in drinks are bad for some reason? Water has no calories, you know... I mean I assume everyone's diet is more than literally Diet Coke all day.

Also pretty sure there's a bunch of studies that disprove that metabolism claim.
