Podcast that you liked and now don't like?

Well, I see where you're coming from, but I don't know that I'd go that far. There are a series of regular folks that appear on this show, each of whom has different tastes. It's true that PC gaming is the one thread that connects them all, but Shawn Andrich and Sean Sands are just as likely to talk about a console game, and are always fair when doing so, in my opinion. I could say the same for Julian Murdoch, but his true passion is for board games.

You might be thinking of Cory Banks. He's the managing editor of PC Gamer, so as you can imagine, his tastes skew more PC-centric. Even so, I still wouldn't describe him as an elitist; I think he's generally fair.

The one person that they have on their show that I would describe as an elitist jackass is Rob Zacny. The guy's a hell of a writer, and he's got a great strategy gaming podcast called Three Moves Ahead; but if he's on and the conversation turns to console games, I can see why some folks would find him off-putting.

Yeah, I guess I wouldn't say any of them are elitist. They just love pc gaming (which is refreshing for me as I'm used to hearing much more about console games...or pc games limited to MMOs, DoTA etc).

Giantbombcast.

They should really have Patrick skype into the show more often, at least for the news.

I still love the Bombcast, but I do miss Patrick. I think he was a great counterbalance to the rest of the guys' aloofness. His Eve Online segment he did after coming back from Iceland was one of the most interesting things I've listened to on any podcast ever, and I don't even play Eve.

I used to like Giant Bomb, but it is unlistenable now. They spend so much time talking about non-gaming relates things; when they do discuss games, they are completely dispassionate. Hell, I don't think the crew even LIKE games anymore, as they seem annoyed to even play them.

Sorry, which thread were we posting in again? It doesn't matter, though. Every single backer whose topic we've covered so far has really enjoyed the episode they sponsored (or so they say, anyway). They're the audience I am most concerned about making happy, because they made the biggest sacrifices to keep the show going.

This is going to be a negative thread; I'm pretty confident most fans of the series are loving the new ones. I've posted my minor gripes already, and it's only because this thread exists. I'm perfectly happy hearing some less inspired mini episodes when you guys are kicking do much butt with your full episodes. Voice acting, Atari, music 2, fan translation episodes are stellar. Others are good, at least as good as your average retronauts from the past, but you guys are putting together some episodes that stand with the very best you've done.

Considering you've had to move and landed a new gig it's impressive how well things have turned out. My banner request episode is still in the works but I know it's gonna be great.

I used to like IGN's Game Scoop quite a bit but most of the people I enjoyed listening to left IGN and Daemon Hatfield has never been my favorite, so I haven't listened in years.

Also IGN's Three Red Lights was awesome, highlights were the Don King and 50 cent interviews. It was mostly a Lost / GI Joe Podcast with a little bit of Xbox on the side. But then everyone left (Eric Brudvieg, Ryan Geddes, Hillary Goldstein, and Dave Clayman) and it became Podcast Unlocked, which has been reinvented a couple of times itself, even in its present form I find it hard to listen to.

I stopped listening when brad started talking about DOTA2 incessantly. Ryan kept the podcast entertaining, with burger talk.

I'm also suprrised at the Gamers With Jobs hate. I'm about 32 and I really enjoy their view on gaming...one of the few sites that focuses a lot of energy on PC gaming as well. I just feel like they are kindred spirits (even if they don't play a ton of games).

Same here, I forgot to mention GWJ and 8-4 Play in my last post, I really love the banter on those shows, I also really get a good sense that with GWJ, these guys understand what it's like to be a consumer have to pay for things.

I guess I just get sick of podcasts where the hosts no nothing about the games they are talking about and don't care enough to play them. I guess that is why I enjoy non-industry professional podcasts so much. A lot of times they just end up caring a lot more.

100 % this. Pretty much why I can't get through a Bombcast anymore. The vibe I get is they are tired of doing this. Maybe don't do 3 hours if you need to fill 2 hours of it with non-gaming talk? Or do a non-gaming podcast if you are so apathetic towards gaming and would rather talk food and your other hobbies for two hours.

The other day I had to fast forward randomly until I hit the 50 fucking minute mark and started hearing some game talk. I mean come on guys.

Probably the CAGcast. There seemed to be an increasing disinterest in games, a growing bias towards XBox, and more and more statements that were incredibly uninformed. I think I realized I didnt like it anymore, when a year or so back Cheapy questioned Wombat as to why he would bother reading Game of Thrones, when his imagination couldn't possible be as good as the TV show's creators.

8-4 has been irritating me of late. There's always this sense that they have better things to do than the podcast, with the host moving the show along, eyes on the clock, got to get this thing done. I know it's free, but I also give them my time to listen. If they're too busy to do a gaming podcast, then don't do one.

I also gave up on the CAGcast when I realized GoDaddy was sponsoring them.

I used to like The Drunk Tank (now the Rooster Teeth Podcast) but I lost interest when they started bringing in new people and Griffon left.

Christian Nutt on Retronauts:

"THE GAMER nowadays is someone that doesn't think the new Tomb Raider is a piece of shit."

On one hand I find it massively entertaining when the gaming press disappears up its self-important asshole, on the other hand this is the first time I felt embarrassed while listening to Retronauts.

Retronauts, 8-4 Play, Idle Thumbs: still enjoying them a lot.

Back in my Play, No More Whoppers: my current favourites.

I don't really like complaining about podcasts because A) they're free and B) if you don't like it, don't listen. That said, I think it's fair to say why you didn't like (or stopped listening to) a show.

Recently I tried out Player One because I like Greg Sewart's Generation 16 video series, but couldn't get into it. I think my brain has finally hit its "games media dudes" quota. Nothing to do with the cast, really.

After a decade+ of following this stuff, I have a very low tolerance for cynicism about video games. Be positive, people. I also don't want to listen to people talk about games journalism, review scores etc. I just do not care. This applies to a lot of general video game podcasts.

The only major podcast I've given up on is Podcast Beyond, a long time ago now. I grew out of platform-specific stuff and weekly video game news. Plus, they have a cast member that really rubs me up the wrong way.

Adam Carolla Show. Adam solo (ie minus Dr drew) is hard to listen to. The Adam and Dr drew show is pretty good. Like old loveline.

The weird emails that Gamers With Jobs kept entertaining from self-hating nerds who were afraid to come-out as gamers to friends and ladies were pretty irritating.

Oooh, I'm intrigued.

I think it's obvious who it is though, but I actually like that guy, super opinionated and doesn't beat around the bush. Sometimes he can be on that developer dick too much.

I hope I'm talking about the same guy

The recent Parappa the Rapper episode was a hard listen.

The CAGcast. I used to love listening to the show when it was just Wombat and Cheapy as there was a pretty good dynamic between the two, but then when Shipwreck came on, I feel like it disrupted that dynamic. They also tend to make some really dumb statements in regards to stuff they hardly know about. Just not worth a listen to for me anymore.

Well I'd rather be honest than passive aggressive: it's Colin. Nothing personal at all -- I'm sure he's a good guy IRL, but when it comes to listening to him for entertainment? There are other people more compatible with my tastes. His opinions are just the complete opposite to mine, and the way he states them rubs me the wrong way. Again, nothing personal -- he must be doing something right because Beyond's a popular show.

That's fair, and honestly, there's highly regarded personalities I don't care much for either, I enjoy Colin though, especially the Conversation with Colin series on Greg Miller's Youtube channel. I completely understand why people don't like him, but he's a smart dude with some very interesting opinions, and that's enough to keep me listening.

I mainly just listen to the Roosterteeth Podcast and the Super Best Friendcast now. I used to listen to Beyond from IGN, but its quality has dropped in recent years.

Replying to this old ass post as a thanks for finding the Super Best Friendcast! Only a few episodes down, but really like these guys. I'm always looking for new ones as I burn through them so fast and drop them even faster. Although one guys voice reminds me of Bryan Intihar. Miss you FragileEagle! The 1up voices like ghosts in the machine.

Needed something to replace the CAGcast anyway, finally had to let it go. No other podcast has gone from fun to annoying quicker for me, and all thanks to the new console generation. They couldn't be more out of touch with the gaming community if they tried. And sometimes I feel like they are actively trying to push people away.

I liked him at first, but yes. I'd rather listen to Cheapy and Wombat talk about kids and poop to be honest.
