Podcast that you liked and now don't like?

So I'm listening to CAG right now and I wanna get this straight. Cheapy is in Tokyo, another dude is in NY and another is in Ohio? What kind of a rig are they using to sound so good? It'd be easy to make the mistake of thinking they are all in the room together.

That's one of the reasons I kinda stopped listening to RebelFM, because Anthony skyping in from Seattle just sounded too disjointed.

Well, being in Tokyo I'm sure Cheapy has some fat-ass pipes for bandwidth. I think he's the one who hosts the actual skype session so I don't know if his badass connection has something to do with it. Probably not, thinking about it.

I'm guessing all three of them have pretty ace connections considering they've all got pretty decent jobs and are so involved in the internet. I guess they make that a priority. The production quality really is top-notch, you've got to give them that.

They all record locally and then give the files to CheapyD who mixes it. I will say, if nothing else, the CAGCast sounds consistently good for a remote podcast.

Super sad to find out that you can no longer stream 1up Yours and GFW Radio from 1up.com.... clicking the download button redirects to an unknown page.....

weird that they would take it off the site randomly after all this time...

Beyond doesn't have the same pop it used to have for me, not sure why. Very hit and miss on the Bombcast, sometimes they are great, others it feels too slow and boring.

Holy crap, that's crazy. That must take a ton of work. No wonder it sounds so nice. No half-assing it there!

Wow, they finally killed all those links. It makes sense, since they are probably trying to remove as much media as they can. Well, there's always that torrent going around.

Yeah. At least a few years ago, he says it takes a day for him to edit the show together and make it sound good. I'm sure he's more efficient at it now though.

TalkRadar was the best gaming podcast around back in the day... GamesRadar still has a podcast but now that everyone who made TDar special has left, it's just another crappy gaming podcast in the long list of crappy gaming podcasts. A shame.

At least all the talent went on to make the Laser Time network aka some of the best podcasts on the internet

Laser Time is indeed a special network. The Christmas special this past year was amazing radio drama work! I was honestly quite impressed. They did a great Christmas drama back on T-Dar too, like a Christmas Carol.

We do the same for Player One Podcast. If you know what you're doing it does not take much additional work.

I'll have to give you guys a listen again. I keep hearing so many great things!

CAG - 3 annoying personalities that constantly troll Nintendo, boring.

Rebel FM - Gies is unbearably obnoxious

Gamers with Jobs - Weird shit like readings from writers, no thanks

Tested - uninteresting without Whitta

Idle Thumbs - only Spelunky talk zzz

Bombcast - Missing Ryan

3 favs: Retronauts, Player One, 8-4

Giant bombcast. It seems they talk less and less about videogames. They also don't seem to like videogames very much.

My go to podcast is now weekend confirmed. Far more enthusiastic discussion.

Who the fuck listens to Rebel FM? The only episode that ever mattered from that shitty podcast was the one where the 1UP crew was featured and that is it.

Podcast Beyond- it's gotten stale for me, Greg used to be a cool guy, he turned into douche that thinks the world resolves around him.

Cathedral of Shadows- A Shin Megami Tensei podcast, it's pretty good. They are pretty bad with spoilers which I don't care about really. They are also fairly new.

Slink FM- The PersonaGaf podcast ;)

I'm gonna have to say Idle Thumbs..can't remember the last episode I actually enjoyed. Sean Vanaman is just the worst interrupter and he gets so fauxcited about stupid things. I don't think Remo is a strong enough host to reign that shit in - he and Jake are guilty of it sometimes, too (the famous Thumbs hallmark of interruping someone in the middle of a sentence for "oh I thought you were gonna say <wacky thing>". conversation then diverts to non-sequitur-ville).

The balance between Chris, Jake, and Nick was like a Jenga tower that sometimes fell over but was still pretty strong. Sean is like a guy who just comes in and smacks it with his hand every time.

I will say that I'm a pretty big fan of Steve Gaynor's Tone Control. Wonder how long he can keep that up.

Gamers With Jobs is still the best all-around gaming podcast out there, in my opinion. Anyone who isn't already subscribed to it should check it out.

The most recent episode of The Scorecast (episode 18 as of this writing) was also great, featuring discussions with developers from From Software and Kojima Productions about life as a game developer in Japan. It's a young show, but I think it has potential.

I agree on the gamers with jobs. They talk mostly PC games which is basically all I play now.

I just started a gaming/anime podcast. Only one episode is currently out and I'm still trying to figure out how to get on iTunes. I'm kinda nervous about advertising it until we crank some more episodes out.

As for stale podcasts though I liked gamescoop a lot but now it's just a bunch of their video topics thrown together into a podcast. I still like it but i wish they would have kept it going the way it was.

Who the fuck listens to Rebel FM? The only episode that ever mattered from that shitty podcast was the one where the 1UP crew was featured and that is it.

It was fine when they first started. Anthony led the show and Nick Suttner had a strong presence. After Nick left and Arthur started bullying his way to the top it started to go downhill. I liked Tyler, but he didn't contribute much as far as games discussion. I also like Matt Chandronait, but I think he does better work behind the camera or in the editing room. He has trouble articulating his thoughts and so he tends to ramble.

RebelFM is still in my sub folder, but I delete most episodes without listening to them. They did have an interesting talk about Rust with Shawn Elliot a couple episodes ago that was really fun.

Its actually a great podcast. Tons of current game talk. Matt, Arthur and Chuff are really solid. No bullshit(outside of the occasional relationship letter) just 2 hours of game talk.

its not that i dont like them anymore, but i used to listen to Invisible Walls and Epic Battle Cry, and now i just don't. dunno.

i also used to listen to Irrational Interviews (http://irrationalgames.com/insider/irrational-interviews/, they were/are pretty interesting, and incredibly, somehow actually had people on who i wanted to listen to, go figure. but then Ken Lavine stopped making them around the time they started crunching down on getting Bioshock Infinite finished with all the hoopla going on.

ive been waiting for them to come back ever since

Invisible Walls. It stopped being any good after Shane Satterfield left. Also Podtoid. No Jim Sterling no listen. Podtoid was a major part of my week :(

Idle Thumbs has become so predictably annoying. Chris Remo will spend half the show soliloquizing about a game in which a pink dot and a blue dot slowly become grey dots, then completely dismiss whatever major release he played for 30 mintues that week because the main character did something that, if it happened in real life, would be illogical and HILARIOUS.

Nick Breckon will struggle to explain one of his terrible analogies, then give up in frustration.

The other guy will make some reference to an inside joke from 58 episodes ago that was never THAT funny to begin with. The other two won't know what he's talking about.

Cut to a five second clip of a conversation for which we have no context.

VIDEO GAAAAMES.

I stopped listening a while ago. Maybe it's better now.

I gotta say that I am impressed that the Insert Credit podcast hasn't really dropped in quality at all after what, a year and a half now. The format kind of depends on the host Jaffe coming up with interesting questions that will interest all three of the panelists, while at the same time not interesting Tim too much or he will just not stop talking. And by and large it's been working well.

And even for their recent BGOAT podcast, I was apprehensive at first, thinking, "what's the point of revisiting the panel's list of the best games of all time? Won't it be 99% the same as last year?" But they pulled it off, and came up with a completely different list by forcing the panel to come up with games that not only weren't on the list last year, but by also disqualifying every single game the users submitted for consideration.

This analysis is spot on. Completely agree.

I still listen, and I never thought I'd say it, but I think Idle Thumbs has just gotten pretty stale. I really miss the inanity of the pre-Kickstarter era. Most recent episodes have just felt very plain.

I still love the Bombcast, and I enjoy them as much as always, but I think the loss of Ryan has hurt them very deeply, there is always a sense of loss and sadness underpinning the show now. It isn't anybody's fault, and they're all still every bit as good as they always were, but there's just a feeling of emptiness. It sounds like they intend to shake up the formula of the show, so hopefully that will let them regain their footing.

I've been noticing this as well. It's like they are so jaded and really don't like video games anymore. Everything is "meh" to them and nothing is amazing anymore. It's weird.

With that said I'm enjoying The Axe Factor. I don't know, those guys are so amped and pumped about certain games they could practically sell me anything.

Yeah, I don't like to single the dude out but him becoming a regular was the point it started to drop in quality for me. I get especially irked at how 50% of his sentences rise in pitch at the end like he's asking a question in French and how they all use "super" as a prefix super-often. Ugh. Maybe I've just changed and become an intolerant, miserable bastard.

I stopped listening to the Tested podcast and visiting their website after they claimed that 720p and 1080p are basically the same if you have a good scaler. They are supposed to be a tech website for fuck's sake.

The exasperation in this post is palpable

Made me laugh.

No one should ever go to tested for tech news lol, some of the things will says...smh
Now they try to be a catch all site for science, tech, art, etc. but they aren't knowledgeable enough for any of them. Will not being able to list the forms of heat radiation or how they work in the octoberkast was just embarassing.

Not even 2N1T can save Weekend Confirmed for me. I just cannot stand some of the regulars on that show.

RebelFM is pretty hard to listen to as well. I'm just waiting for the trigger warnings to start before every episode.

Actually I just did a GAF search about him and the vast overwhelming majority of posts just seem to be about shitting on the guy, and not so much dealing with what he actually says. TBH it feels an awful lot like accepted wisdom/groupthink. Basically, GAF don't like him.

I started disliking Gies' work years before I ever visited neoGAF (mostly started with his stuff at IGN where I was first exposed to his madness). It's not just a GAF thing.

I used to really like the IGN podcast Three Red Lights, but ever since I discovered podcasts like Game Scoop and the Joystiq podcast, I can't really listen to it anymore.
I didn't listen to three red lights much but seeing this reminded me of an absolutely hilarious episode they did where they interviewed Don King. Full episode. Just the interview. Possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard on a podcast.

On topic, I used to like podcast beyond a lot but I think it has been going slowly going down hill ever since Greg became host, and I almost never listen anymore.

Retronauts for me, they sound so uninterested and feels like someone is forcing them to be there.

The worse for sure was the Star Wars episode, I was expecting lots of cool talk about retro Star Wars games, instead they just complained the entire episode that they couldnt find any Star Wars Copy cat games.

And then they said "yeah they never made a game that had cool Lightsaber play", I dont thing this guys have ever played Jedi Knight Outcast or Academy, I literally yelled "Come on".

Love Back in my Play, so much passion.

While this isn't gaming related, the Stone Cold Steve Austin podcast is starting to lose me more and more. It's great when he has a guest from the Pro Wrestling world on, but when it's just Steve Austin shooting the shit on his own, I'm far less interested.

Podtoid

Jim Sterling made that podcast amazing and Max Scoville isn't nearly as entertaining. The last two episodes were dreadful and the latest had the most awkward pauses.

Read the first paragraph of his Deus Ex HR review.

You mean this?

The hype machine behind big games often mirrors the precarious Icarus myth - fly too close to the sun, promise too much, and you're just as likely to tumble out of the sky as deliver on your potential. Eidos Montreal have promised so much with Deus Ex: Human Revolution that it's hard to see how they could succeed, how they couldn't burn up in the harsh heat of audience expectation - of the potential assigned to a predecessor now more than a decade past. That heat already turned on one Deus Ex sequel, scourging it beyond all rhyme or reason. Playing the part of a better Daedalus, Eidos Montreal has given Human Revolution the wings to fly true - with just a few scorch marks to show for it.

Nintendo Voice Chat from IGN. It was amazing with Matt and Bozon back in the day, good Rich, Sam, and Audrey, now it's just meh with Jose.

I disagree with this. The Matt and Bozon podcasts were only interesting in that they had tons of inside information. The podcast itself wasn't nearly as interesting as it is now. In fact, many people here would just wait for someone to make a cliff notes post for each podcast.

Retronauts for me, they sound so uninterested and feels like someone is forcing them to be there.

I get the sense Jeremy is just doing the episodes out of a sense of obligation. To be fair, he knew his limits and stopped being on the show for quite a while during the 1up days. He's pretty much contributed all that he possibly could in the first 100+ episodes or so. Those episodes are still incredible at least.

With that being said, there have still been some great episodes of the new Retronauts. My favorites are the localization, wrestling and Harvest Moon episodes.
