Podcast that you liked and now don't like?

Ho-ho-oh my, no. Most of my game purchases these days are funded by selling off old games/DVDs or taking advantage of sales.

Or, of course, waiting for games to get marked down on clearance. Have you guys heard about this Dead Space game? I just got it for $7.50 at Target! I'll be sure to bring it up on the next episode. You wouldn't believe the crazy things that I've seen in this game!

you better bring it next week! same with you, CJ!

i actually think idle thumbs and gamers with jobs sound the same, the people just seem really boring and i cant tell the difference between them

the difference being that the people on GWJ seem much better informed. i 've listened to idle thumbs once and it was some of the most ignorant shit i've ever heard
I've got no problem with you disliking Idle Thumbs. I think you're crazy, but to each his own.

However... ignorant? If you truly think they're ignorant, YOU are the ignorant one.

Since you guys are here... what was it a couple of episodes ago you were talking about when you were discussing the PSP not having save states? You mentioned how the DS could do this or something. I was confused b/c on my PSP I simply flip the power button on the right in the middle of a game and when I flip it again, I'm right where I left off. Or were you talking about being able to save save, get out and come back in? (I think it was P1P, forgive me if it's the wrong one).

Podcast that you liked and now don't like: Rebel FM, Listen Up

(Listening to right now: Idle Thumbs, Player One, Giant Bomb, Out Of The Game and A Life Well Wasted)

You can save-state in virtual console games. Not on the DS that I'm aware of. What you're talking about on your PSP is putting it in sleep mode. You can't turn the PSP off or go back and play another game or browse the web on your PSP and return to your game from where you left off. But you can with the PSPgo. You can have one "pause game" state on your Go at any time.

The first podcast I ever listened to was the CAGcast and its my favorite, and I haven't found another that beats it. I liked the interactivity, you can talk all sorts of trash about cheapy, wombat, call em out, and they take it in stride and make it part of the show. Honest opinions, honest conversation... can't beat it.

yea, the fact that Cheapy doesn't listen to any other podcast keeps his show and opinions fresh and a bit different than most other shows. and his stories about living in Japan is damn funny.

gave REBEL FM another go this morning--the first game club on HALF-LIFE 2 actually--and i'm back in for that. really great discussion.

I'm a big fan as well. I generally like the podcasts hosted by more average fans, rather than the "we can't talk about these awesome games because they're embargoed" podcasts of the 1up variety.

Agreed, I highly enjoy the CAGcast. The first two podcasts I ever subscribed to were Major Nelson and the CAGcast. I still listen to one of those.

I love the cagcast. Cheapy, wombat and Mr./Mrs. Shipwreck are all great. I'm also listening to the latest episode, and want them to know that at least some gaffers enjoy the show.

Something about getting a lot of stuff wrong durring there discussion of ODST a week or two ago. Which is true...

i discovered your podcast through Wombat. give him a cookie ;)

I think it's shameful that Wombat has made an appearance on Player One, but the CAGCast has never invited one of the P1 guys on their show. ;-)

Sounds good to me. It'll be like chocolate and peanut butter bumping into each other accidentally walking around a corner. Two great tastes come together to one.

You guys could actually make one super podcast Halloween holiday special... with an all-star lineup of personalities. ;) :D

haha, true. but they have so much trouble getting together for their own show, that a guest is near impossible at this point, imo. their show schedule has been a bit sporadic in the last few months.

Remember when RebelFM used to have a different awesome guest almost every week?

It just seems like there was a time when they were putting way more effort into their podcast. All the dick/fart/sex jokes wouldn't be half as bad if they weren't so consistently followed up by Tyler's sycophantic cackling. Really? It's that funny? From the sound of this thread it sounds like Arthur grates on people, but honestly I think he keeps the show more grounded than either of the other two.

I don't listen to RebelFM anymore but I still stay subsribed in hopes that we'll see more guests because the normal trio has kinda worn thin on me. As much as I've lost hope, I feel like if they really wanted to they could turn everything around in a heartbeat if they wanted to.

I think CJ is shameful in general so everyone wins, :)

RebelFM... it started to suck badly after key members dropped out

CAGCast is pretty good IMHO, I don't see where all the hate comes from

For gaming podcasts I'm down GWJ. They produce the only gaming show that is consistently great, well produced, and actually listenable.

There are shows out there that I'd like to listen to, but the audio quality is so shitty it grates.

There are other shows out there that sound great, but the hosts suck.

So for now, it's just GWJ.

I think he said it was a forum for gaming snobs, which isn't unfair. :D

I also love the CAGcast.

At this point, I feel like podcasts that are entertaining and funny draw me in far more than ones where the hosts know a ton about games. Giant Bombcast, Idle Thumbs and The Fanboys are easily my top 3 gaming podcasts as they take the news and games, which I and probably everyone else listening to it already know about, and deliver their opinions and insights in a fun manner.

The worst is when people have zero personality and deliver their thoughts like a someone has a gun to their head in a library.

I liked the Giant Bombcast, but they have just gotten on my nerves. Too much god damn yelling and screaming about nothing. It just so damn obnoxious.

I can sometimes listen to the odd episode, but I tend to just skip around a lot looking for parts that might interest me. I don't listen from start to end anymore. Its just a waste of time.

From the description of the latest Geekbox episode:
Wherein we discuss the uproar over last episode's guest host, Dragon Quest and boycotts, really stupid bands, shocking comic mysteries (with a nod to the dumbest Internet message board theory you'll ever hear), 2009's lineup of awesome DC animated movies, Planetary #27 (beware spoilers!), giant Tekken 6 arcade machines, Tales of Vesperia, Legend of the Red Dragon, DJ Hero, John Lithgow's ass (and how much is too much), New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and an amazing Fitch Hitch development. Starring Ryan Scott, Karen Chu, Mike Cruz, Andrew Fitch, and Ryan Higgins.

:lol . Just want to say I couldn't complete the episode because of that guy.

Karen's wife Patrick was a hilarious asshole on Geekbox. I certainly wouldn't want to have him on every episode (or really any episode ever again), but just for once it was fun to have somebody on the show that wasn't a quiet geek, who was totally abrasive and stand-offish over everything.....the sort of palpable tension he creates is kind of interesting.

I'm listening to the newest Rebel FM which came out today. I can't decide which Arthur has more contempt for: Tyler Barber or Uncharted 2.

Hey Superpac, I notice that Greg S called me out for my complaint re: Player One podcast. On the other hand it means that I'm still listening :)

Command Prompt ever since Ocamppo left

I should have stopped listening to Listen Up way back when because of my personal dislike of a certain person on that show.

Husband and wife have confusing names.

Haha -- honest mistake, I wasn't meaning to cast aspersions on his manliness.

After that Geekbox episode, I can imagine a lot of listeners are wondering what it is she sees in the guy.

CO-OP

Oh, it's not bad at all... they just focus too much on the good side of the games and seem to overlook most of the bad. I guess they aren't really reviewing anything though.

So yeah, I didn't believe the hype

...then I listened to this yesterday ....wow ....just wow (O__o)

IGN, 1UP, Hotspot, Joystiq's have all been dumped.

I follow PSNation, Sarcastic Gamer Blue Show and Invisible Walls, every week. :)
I sometimes follow Full Moon Show, Player One Podcast, and WarZone.

I also look over a few other podcasts, if they talk about particular games I'm interested in hearing about.

PSNation is without a doubt the best podcast I've ever heard, laidback, and lots of industry-interviews, and the hosts are great, and the manage to cover most genres of games. :)

Rebel FM, Arthur ruins it for me.

Gamers with Jobs, most of the cast started to annoy me.

Cheap Ass Gamer, I still listen every now and then but Wombat needs to be punched in the throat.

Wombat sounds like a nice guy. Please don't punch him in the throat. Your post reads like those messages he got when he was one of those featured xbox members.

CheapyD's idol is Howard Stern, so that explains where all the fecal matter/sex tangents come from. No big deal really. What IS annoying is the exclusion of the guy (Shipwreck) who actually plays games. Bring back Shipwreck!

try game club, if you haven't lately. it's still very solid.

Yeah, Arthur is awful, which made me stop. Patrick (on the Geekbox) was almost identical to him.

After this weeks episode I no longer feel bad for ripping him though, since Karen clearly though he was a massive douche as well. They all said "either you love him or you hate him, but that's Patrick." She couldn't finish the episode, so I don't blame anyone else who couldn't either.

LOL, Im guessing you still listen to the one that isn't a 2-hour long Microsoft commercial

The only podcast that I've stopped listening to recently is major nelson's propagandacast. I don't particularly dislike it, but i get enough of my xbox related information elsewhere.

Shipwreck's been on the last 2 shows. :lol

have to agree with the sentiments about the latestgeekbox. Patrick was such a fucking cock

he sounded really obnoxious, he talked over everyone, was really confrontational (for some reason), he spoke way too fast (like he was on drugs)

he also seemed way too nerdy, almsot like he was autistic or something. i might stop listening if he starts coming on regularly

Wait, really? Beyond the idea of someone on a message board about video games calling anyone else "too nerdy," what version of autism are you thinking of? What version of autism is it that makes people comfortable talking, and also makes them "too nerdy"?

EDIT: To be clear, Patrick in question == deadairis

I dropped Rebel FM soon after Phil and Nick left. Chuff and Anthony were just not enough to hold the show together. The fart jokes and fat penis wore on me eventually. I stopped listening to Nintendo Voice Chat (or whatever it was originally called) after realizing how shitty it was compared to the majority of gaming podcasts.

Stopped listening to Geekbox early on; most of their topics didn't interest me. I found the CAGcast to be slow and boring.

I am starting to like the Mobcast less as time goes on, but I'm still listening for now. It feels like their ideas for topics are drying up already.

Also, if you're looking for a Nintendo podcast, Radio Free Nintendo is fantastic. The group has great chemistry and knowledge about games. Out of the Game is a source of intelligent game (and non-game) discussion. Also, more P1P, GWG and Bombcast love here. :D
