PokéBOMB The Next Generation: New Mega Evolutions and ORAS Details

How are the new megas getting into XY? Don't make me transfer all my dudes into ORAS!

Also Charizard cannot be stopped.

I don't know if they'll let you transfer the new Megas backwards into XY, there isn't a precedent for them allowing that is there? Typically you're forced to transfer forwards if you want to have the new Pokemon on your team to play competitively.

Doesn't seem that bad but I definitely like the original designs more. Mega Swampert could grow on me, Mega Sceptile would be much better without those christmas lights along the spine.

Not sure about their abilities though. Lightning Rod and Swift Swim? Those sound like what their normal form Hidden Abilities would be, not the dang Mega abilities.

I'm not too happy with Gamefreak Gamefreaking Mega Sceptile. They give him the Dragon type everybody has been asking for, make him look way cooler, then give him Lightning Rod of all things.

also, for the love of god, STOP PUSHING MEGAZARD X. Everybody and their mother has one it seems. How the hell does Steven having one even make sense.

And the Charizard fetish continues. Why not give Steven, a steel-type trainer, a mega that is actually a steel type?

Oh well. Can't wait!

Mega Sceptile looks cool but x4 Ice weakness? Damn.

Mega Swampart reminds me of Mega Blastoise.

Brendan and May both look terrible now.

Why does my main man Steven have Charizard X?

Fuck Charizard X! Give him Mega Metagross.

Holy cow is that Team Aqua Admin Shelly?!? She's straight up waifu material now.

GOD DAMMMMNNNNNNN MEGA SWAMPERT

It's so weird seeing this game with 3D models and the like, though not as weird as the new Brendan lol (I'll never be able to unsee his hat hair). Can't wait!!

It's not like they're gonna show Mega Metagross yet. I mean, this is Steven we're talking about. I'm sure he's gonna be able to pull some BS and have 2 active megas.

It's pretty much exclusively tailored towards doubles. Not like there's anything inherently wrong with that (Doubles is the standard after all), it's just incredibly disappointing for singles players. Especially since Mega Pokemon have traditionally received "mega-level" abilities.

Immunity abilities are usually pretty decent, but Mega Sceptile already shrugs off Electric attacks like it's nothing, so it doesn't get much use out of its ability. A situational +1 to SpA isn't that impressive for a Mega Pokemon...

I think it's decent. more opportunities to switch it in while giving it a respectable +1 SPA boost against a very popular offensive typing. Makes it a legit hard counter to rotom-w, one of the most popular Pokemon in the current metagame as it does not care about anything it does. Also if it learns electrify it would be extremely potent offensively.

I'm seriously at a loss for words as well. I don't know why they have to force Charizard into everything now, he had his coming back party with the last game and the series and other stuff, I think it's time to shift on. I get he's popular, but a Mega Metagross makes infinitely more sense for Steven then a Pokemon that doesn't fit with the rest of his team.

Pretty sure you could trade between DPP and HGSS freely since it was the same gen. It will hopefully be the same here.

That's actually a pretty cool detail. Magma spends all their time underground, so they get no sun and are pale as ghosts. Aqua spends all their time on the sea, so they're tanned.

Ironically Magma is trying to control a pokemon that brings intense sun and Aqua is trying to control a pokemon that takes it away. They must be jealous of one another!

I wanted Mega Sceptile to get Dragon typing and my call has been answered. Too bad Gamefreak fucked everything else up. Lightning Rod as an ability? Why in the fuck? Those Brendan and May redesigns? Who the fuck thought those were a good Idea? Sweet lordy don't do this to me. I have very fond memories of Hoenn. Don't ruin them please.

Not even close.

I REALLY don't get all the hate these designs are getting, they aren't that different from RSE, there are even fewer changes than GS to HGSS.

Are you high? That's how they originally looked.

B2W2 are masterpieces confronted to these... things.
Brendan is now a freaking swimmer with weird shoes and May is an uglier version of HGSS female character

Does anyone know if ORAS will have Emerald's plot?

i.e that both Team Magma and Team Aqua make appearances in each game.

I want to assume yes because HGSS pretty much had Crystal's plot.

People who are saying the male main character is bad are crazy. There's literally nothing wrong with him. He's the best main make character since the last remake.

Mega Sceptile would be incredibly useful in doubles with a poke with Discharge.

Unfortunately this strategy won't work as you might intend it to.

Lightning Rod draws all attacks to the pokemon, regardless if it were the opponent or an ally. If your pokemon uses Discharge, M-Sceptile would absorb it all; the opponent won't get hit as a result.

And you'd have to evolve first to get that ability, so it's iffy as a switch-in to counter volt switch.

Grass/Dragon?

2x Weak to Flying, Bug, Fairy, Dragon, Poison

4x Weak to Ice

Hope this thing has good defenses because Smogon bird and and U-turn Genesect are running rampant throughout the metagame. Lightning Rod on a pokemon that 4x resist electricity is just trolling.

Why is Team Aqua so swole?

A swimmer with toothpicks for arms? I think they're trying to bring across a cyclist vibe since RSE were the only games to feature 2 kinds of bike, which was an awful idea and it's a shame they're bringing it back.

Brendan doesn't look very different from his Emerald design other than the fact that he isn't wearing loose shorts with pants under them anymore, he also looks more like a cyclist than a swimmer. May's design is pretty similar too, she just had her bandana turn into a head band, her shirt is sleeveless now and instead of wearing a tiny skirt she has shorts.

It's worth pointing out that the wetsuit redesigns for the protagonists make some sense considering Hoenn is a tropical region that's half water.

Doesn't Lightningrod make it immune to T-Wave as well? It's not like it's irrelevant. I'm also pretty sure Zapdos would prefer Lightningrod over Pressure in singles given the option.

Not irrelevant, just disappointing. Thunder Wave immunity is nothing to write home about, especially when Mega Sceptile wouldn't switch into the most common Thunder Wave users.

Also, it's a completely different case with Zapdos; it takes neutral damage from Electric moves, so the extra immunity is pretty a big deal.

I think it's decent. more opportunities to switch it in while giving it a respectable +1 SPA boost against a very popular offensive typing. It doesn't really gain any more switch in opportunities. It already hard countered the hell out of Rotom-W with that quadruple resistance to both of its STAB. LightningRod just gives a bonus from switching into Electric attacks in Singles. Not like hard countering Rotom-W is a difficult thing to do anyhow. Also, keep in mind that a good player will absolutely not use Electric attacks while Mega Sceptile is in play (and Mega Sceptile can't make use of the ability until it switches in). Rotom-W's are probably going to Will-o-Wisp or flat out switch out.

Yo Lightningrod Sceptile sounds pretty crazy!

edit: nvm switch ins wouldnt work until after mega evolved. welp. thats pretty useless.

Charizard pandering still in full swing in a region he's not supposed to even be in, how the heck did they not give Steven a Mega Metagross......smfh.

Sceptile takes the crown from Blastoise for worst ability on a starter, hurray.

Team Magma looks like a buncha nerds lol. Otoh, Team Aqua looks badass. Why would they even bother with Pokemon battles, Matt looks like he could beat up Tabitha and Maxie no sweat. I love all the designs, though, at least they're quirky and memorable this time around.

Maybe Maxie and Archie will get MegaCamerupt and MegaSharpedo? And Stevie Wonder with MegaMetagross lol.

I bet that 'Ancient Devolution' is just Mega Evolution in everything but name.
