here you meet pokemon that aren't found in isshu, when you befriend them they will be unlocked in your game and then you have to go to a certain area in isshu to find them (different for each pokemon)

Pretty sure that they all just appear in the High Link forest.

I just caught Zekrom with a single Ultra Ball. I was planning on just chucking the Master Ball at it because I didn't care enough to put myself through throwing 50 balls at it hoping the random number generator saw fit that I capture the fool thing. So as glad as I am that it took all of one minute to capture him, I'm still a bit annoyed.

I'd probably be tempted to use the Masterball on it if I wasn't afraid there'll be a bunch of roaming legendaries again. Haven't seen a complete Pokedex list so I dunno if there are any, but not taking the risk. Not that I've ever managed to capture a single roaming legendary ever anyway.

6 badges now and damn if this isn't the most I've enjoyed a new gen Pokemon since Gold/Silver. So many little things that add up to make it awesome.

You can import items right...?

Because I have like 4 Masters to use.
Nope.

Which is a blessing in disguise for me, because I recoil in horror at the amount of time it could potentially take to move everything forward again. Transferring everything of value from Emerald/FireRed to Pearl to Platinum to HeartGold... Ugh.

No. Although apparently they've found ways to get every item in the game aside from Soul Dew and the item that makes Shaymin change forms.

anyone waiting to import should be ashamed of themselves

He used a Kanji dictionary for a game that doesn't have any Kanji?

I can't believe global link is still down.

I want to know what North America can potentially get screwed out of this time around.

I don't think posting Pokemon GFaqs quotes is quite the right direction for this thread to take. Not by a long shot :lol

It feels strange to say this about an RPG, but you don't need to know any Japanese to get through this game anyway. I got lost exactly once from the beginning of the game to the end credits: not being sure where I needed to go after the battle in the lower levels of the Ancient Castle to open up the bridge to Souryuu City. It's Pokemon. If you're big enough a fan to even consider importing, you probably already know how to play it with your eyes closed.

There are also benefits, as I found myself way more interested in the story when I had no clue what was going on. If I understood what the characters were saying, my eyes would likely just be on constant roll duty.

RE: Importing

1) Can't transfer my stuff from American DPPt/HGSS.
2) Can't use it on American DSi and presumably 3DS once I bother upgrading.
3) Won't be legal for American VGC.
4) Will presumably receive a few minor tweaks / bugfixes when localized like US DP had over JP DP.
5) Keeping the US/JP names of the Pokemon/moves/items/abilities straight is a pain.

I cannot think of a single good reason to import this game.

Gracidea flower has been found in the game, some girl in a pokemon center gives it to you when you show her shaymin (Its Kagome town P center)

Not heard anything about the soul dew tho.

Do you need a new dream smoke every time? Becuase I connected once right when I get the option and then I tried it again and it wouldn't let me. Or perhaps I did it the first time right before the site went down?

Also, will you post an update when the site comes back online? I never remember to check, so a reminder would be nice. :)

You should be able to game synch whenever you want, I will check if dream smoke is one use item.

The Global link page says 10 days of maintenance starting on the 18th so it should be back up tomorrow if everything goes well...

Did they just steal the Sakka City music from Chrono Trigger?

All the town music in this game is *awesome*
Totally. On a first glance, it has the best town music in Pokemon. It's incredible.

In other news, game arrives tomorrow. Wee! I expected it to come in Friday at the earliest.

Did Masuda do all the music himself?

The battle themes and most of the city/route themes seem typical of his work, but certain things do not vibe.

Like the N intro theme, when he talks to you. Sounds like Disgaea.

Impatience. Not a good reason, of course.

Anyway, the level curve from Elite Four to postgame sure is steep. I went from being over 10 levels above everything, to even footing, to 10 levels behind in less than an hour.

One of the many reasons I ditched Gamefaqs for GAF was because of this guy and now I see he's still haunting me.

Global link wont be back up till october 4th, even then only some of the features will be back (able to download backgrounds for the Pokedex and c gear, global battle union and profile pages)

Dream world will not be back up until October 11th, they are also limiting the use, you can only use it for 1 hour a day and only if you actually have your ds connected at the time your trying to use it, very dissapointing...

What the hell? That's awful.

lol iGenesis.

Anyway, I'm thinking that BW and 3DS will boost each others' sales by a nice amount, seeing as how they are launching around the same time.

So I was reading the changes to certain moves, and Hypnosis went from 70% accuracy to 60%. Toxic is 90% accurate (rather than 85%). Most trapping/multiple hit moves got boosts.

Tackle is now 50 base power with perfect accuracy. FINALLY.

I guess Serebii is wrong then. =/

Also, Roost is not a B/W TM. :(

That video someone posted of level 1's beating someone... how did they do it? I saw Substitute but can't make out the rest of the moves.

BTW I'm very late to this thread so this probably was already announced, but for everyone with the Japanese version - You have until the 19th of October to pick up "Bikutini" (pokémon #000) via Wifi :P

Got the game earlier today (holy shit). Played for 2 hours. I'm at the point where I came out of the lab. No, I didn't leave the game open for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Let me explain.

I figured, y'know, could be nice if I could read what's going on, right? So I randomly went for it. I got Hiragana and Katakana both down in an afternoon, practiced a little, found out I actually understand what I'm reading if it's at a low level. Don't ask me why because I don't know. It's mystifying. But anyway if you're following, I can read Japanese now. Huh? Okay. What?

I spent the 2 hours slowly (slowly is an understatement) reading the dialogue, letter by letter. I can read WAY faster now though so it's okay (at first I had to write it down in romaji in order to remember what I read since I did it so slowly). And yeah I understand most of it. I think. Woo. This is a bit awkward. I'm kinda excited though.

Now I take a break from the game because as much as I looked forward to it, I feel like I've just read a suicide letter.

Picked Smugleaf by the way, don't know who I'll catch but it looks like the first will be Zapra.

I saw a bit of that. I think he used a focus sash and kept using giga drain a bunch.

Well, to be fair, Belle's father does put a lot of pressure on her, and an overbearing parental influence can drive young Trainers to do some crazy things...

I always try this to a degree (reading, but not looking up new words) and give up after about half an hour. So I at least make sure to read my attack names every time I select one. I also make sure to keep text speed at the lowest setting and try to keep up with the text in battles. For some reason, I'm still not good enough. I just need to try harder I guess. :lol

I thought Shroomish used leech seed which restored Sturdy each turn.

Oh, nah, I'm not going for the battle text (I don't even read it when it's in English!). I made a point to only learn it because I somehow understand the text anyway, so I refuse to put any further effort into it. I'll probably only read when the text isn't super-obvious (which was pretty rare for what I've played).

Dude FUCK Belle's dad. What an asshole.

here is the video again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR0PwWewCV8

i can't read japanese so i got kinda lost.

Well, Spiritomb keeps trying to use Sucker Punch which, as you would expect, fails each time. Pineco and Magnemite both have Sturdy, so they are able to survive any attacks thrown at them since they would inevitably be KO'ed. Pineco proceeded to lay Poison Spikes, Spikes AND Stealth Rock. It continued surviving due to a combination of resisting KO's through Sturdy, and regaining health through Leech Seed--a clever little cycle, wouldn't you say? Girafarig protects itself from status by operating behind a Sub, and preventing Sucker Punch from hitting by using Odor Sleuth and Baton Pass. Little Swanna survived on Subs and Protect. I stopped watching after that, but Cynthia's Pokémon kept suffering Stealth Rock / Spikes damage upon entering, compounded by immediate Toxic. Sturdy also came in handy in terms of surviving any attacks not prevented by "not attacking" (i.e. avoiding Sucker Punch), hiding behind Subs, or using Protect. (That is why the player kept Nosepass in reserve since, as Pokémon gained experience and leveled up, their respective HPs rose as well, invalidating Sturdy as a viable means of surviving Cynthia's attacks.)

Hope that helps. ;D

Agreed. =/ Keep playing, though.

Also, I just checked the sign on the far east of Route 16.

"Past here is Wonder Bridge.
Wonder Ahead! Moreover, Bridge!"
:lol

EDIT: Just caught a Baoppu in the Lost Woods. :O Whaaaaaaaat.

Karakusa music pretty ok and then you activate the drums and piano and it becomes freaking awesome. It's a nice idea but what ends up happening is that I don't get to hear it automatically, so that's not very nice.

Plasma had that "funny dramatic" thing going for the most part :lol Galactic only came that far in that late-game speech in Platinum. The new team is awesome.

(I'm right after N's battle and another hour passed. geez)

Uhm... I just got to the Champions Road. I'm trying to hunt down a "monozu":

n633.gif

The page I'm checking says it's on Champion's Road Room A and Room F, but... what the fuck are those rooms? I guess they are related to the floors on the CR, but I dunno which floor is which, nor anything like that (and nothing shows up either).

h4lp!!

BTW this pokemon's second evolution is this kickass dude:

n635.gif

And because it's Dark type,
it will help me with two of the four guys on the Champion's League.

Edit - After checking some other site, it seems to be only on the first floor. Uhm..

Edit 2 - Haha, I just found him!. Starting at level 38.. it will be a pain to bring him to level 63 for the second evolution :(

Edit 3 - Fuck, I just killed him with one attack.. oh well, I guess I've gotta spend some more time around..

Edit 4 - Got him, woo.. now I just need to lvl him up :/

So, I decide to try Elite Four Round 2 underleveled (60-64) with this team:

500.png
565.png
614.png
376.png
635.png
644.png

The Metagross was just caught and given Rare Candy to evolve, so it had zero EV when replacing Shinbora, which turned out to be a bit of a mistake since anyone who has fought the Elite Four will know that the trainer Metagross is meant to be strong against has taught just about his entire team Earthquake, which completely wrecks 2/3 of my team, and moderately wrecks the rest, which are already weak against
Fighting
anyway. I have never had to item cheese so hard to win a single battle in a Pokemon game before. I beat Red in HGSS with two level 70 Pokemon and six hyper potions. By the time I finished the Elite Four and Champion, I had gone through 35 hyper potions, 20 revives, 5 full restores, and 5 max revives. Still, worth it to avoid wild Pokemon grinding.
