New gen I just try to play the game with the normal names since it will help me know the Pokemon better. But for Pokemon Grey, I'm nicknaming every Pokemon I catch.Jswanko said:Just curious, how many people nickname their pokemon? I never do. I think, originally, because Ash never did.
I've always nicknamed my Pokemon. Like Kipp the Blastoise, Icarus the Torkoal, George the Gengar, Titus the Electrode and Winston the Scizor just to name a few. It's getting harder and harder to think of good names for them though.Jswanko said:Just curious, how many people nickname their pokemon? I never do. I think, originally, because Ash never did.
never do and never willJswanko said:Just curious, how many people nickname their pokemon? I never do. I think, originally, because Ash never did.
tried this back in RBY, it didnt feel right so I returned it back to the original name, never gave a nickname again...Jswanko said:Just curious, how many people nickname their pokemon? I never do. I think, originally, because Ash never did.

Never have, but I will this gen because I think most of the Pokemon have stupid names.Jswanko said:Just curious, how many people nickname their pokemon? I never do. I think, originally, because Ash never did.
I do, starting with Gen IV. After breeding for good IVs, the correct nature and ability, and then EV training a pokémon it just felt really impersonal to call them by their species name.Jswanko said:Just curious, how many people nickname their pokemon? It honestly feels very American. The themes of freedom, liberty and independence play big roles in the game, and we all know the locales were modeled after NYC.thefil said:I know this is largely subjective, but what's the "theme" of this game like? I really enjoy the adventurous music/environments of Silver/Gold, and found the jazz/playful/whimsical nature of Diamond/Pearl really killed my enjoyment.
What does Black/White feel like?

In pearl i named all mine after norse mythology. Gyrados was nidhoggr. Grass starter was Yggdrasil. And there was more but i forget most of them. I like themesJswanko said:Just curious, how many people nickname their pokemon? I never do. I think, originally, because Ash never did.
It feels far more serious than DPPt just as a heads up, but for a general theme, besides America, I'd say it's technology and modern stuff in general. There's a much harsher nature/technology clash than in past Pokemon games, which I love.thefil said:I know this is largely subjective, but what's the "theme" of this game like? Sutton Dagger said:Another 'Type' question, sorry guys...
So what would be a good variety of types to make up a 6 Pokemon team. A team that covers all bases in regards to type effectiveness.
I will go with the fire starter for reference, so that base will be covered.
Thanks for the help.
Andrex said:Ice, Dragon, Electric, Psychic, and Rock are the best offensive types, but I guess you could just teach moves of those types to your Pokemon. Dunno what the best defensive types are...
Wiseblade said:You forgot the two most important offensive types: Fighting and Ground. And Psychic isn't really a good offensive type anymore.
EDIT:
Remember the London B/W launch event I mentioned a while back? apparently I'm getting a free copy just for attending.

If you're referring to the new third abilities then you have to download dream world pokémon with the ability. And no pokémon can have two abilities at once.ryan-ts said:So whats up with these hidden abilities? How do I unlock them? Do I get two abilities in battle if I do unlock it or is there a way to select which ability I want to use?
Asking because I want to use Gothitelle but I only like the hidden ability of Shadow Tag.

And Golduck is only available via the Dream World which is largely dependent upon your use of it + Nintendo.Jinko said:
Thanks much!Jinko said:http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/054.shtml
Looks like you have to breed Goldduck to obtain him, but to answer your question both versions.
If you're interested in the fourth gen (D/P/Pt), just going with Platinum is fine. It's the best version of those three.Keavy_Rain said:Hey, guys.
I haven't played Pokemon since RBY but I've got a Pokemon Black DSi bundle and a standalone copy of White pre-ordered and I'm using my $10 credit from Amazon to get Heart Gold (My friend has Soul Silver) and I'm curious as to which other Pokemon games I should look into getting. Should I go with Diamond and Pearl, just Platinum, all three, or none?
viciouskillersquirrel said:Oh God, the wait is unbearable. I won't be able to play it on my DSi because (of course) my DSi is Australian and my copy of the game will be US-region.
