Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire | Review Thread

For people who are apprehensive, it's staggering how much content B-team's games have every other year and ORAS is no different.

I've been following the leaks at /v/ and once again, I'm starting to get hyped when I thought I wouldn't.

I hate that I need to memorize a chart about types and weaknesses. It makes no sense that none of that stuff isn't explicitly listed in the games themselves.
Most type relationships are intuitive. Even the weird ones make some sense (Psychic is vulnerable to Bugs, Ghosts, and the Dark, all irrational fears. Dark is weak to Bug because Kamen Rider).

Fairy being weak to steel makes sense if you know fairy lore

I don't think anything will beat the hype I had for X/Y. Got the game a day early and had completed it before most of America even had it. Shame about the lack of endgame content though.

You can kill a fairy with a steel bullet?

IIRC, fairies in mythology were weak to iron. That's why they're weak to that, but I agree that Fairy's type relationships are difficult to remember.

Anyway, good reviews all around and the thing I'm most excited about is being able to fly to specific routes and non-town locations. My goodness, that is a huge usability feature right there. It always frustrated me in previous games.

Great reviews all around.
My main concerns are (and I'm possibly missing something here):
  • Is Deoxys catchable within the game without an event item?
  • Battle Frontier. Confirm or deny.

I just went to /vp/ and can only find people yelling about how ORAS is terrible because it doesn't have the BF.

4chan, plz.

Have they revealed what legendaries are exclusive to what version? I don't want to buy one version only to find out Dialga or something is native to the other game.

I don't know about most hyped but Emerald's battle frontier is some god tier stuff, so disappointing if it truly isn't in.

Better read these up to see if they can say more about the secret bases.

Woops, yeah. (How long have I been in this game?)

Okay, you might be right about IVs.

Edit: Scrap that, you are right. It's IVs that have stopped me ever bothering making a competitive team and just skipping that aspect of the game.
Here are my thoughts. With the whole destiny knot, ways the game gives you good IV Pokemon (Friend Safari, all unkown egg group, I assume high level Dex Nav) and prevelence of cloned, hacked 6IV Ditto getting good IVs is very easy. Heck even wonder trade can be a great resource (or a pile of crap Charmanders).

Remember you don't really need 5IV. In Gen V and before most people would do 3IV (because that was all you could pass down). You lose more battles to bad luck (attack missing, damage swing too high/low*) than you do to "my defence was IV was 23, if it was 30 I'd have won".

*-Or in the case of Battle Maison Multi battles your AI partner being incredibly unreliable (the best being ones with explosion, they don't care if they're the last thing left on your side or if they'll take you out, they'll use it when you least want it)

The quest to catch them all continues. Do we have a full 'Dex list for the pokémon in this one or is it all the original RSE ones? I've only got some Hoenn, some Sinnoh, and event onlys left to have all of them.
Main adventure is RSE ones (Hounen dex now includes Gen IV evolutions of Gen III like Dusclops). Postgame has to have more to fulfill the complete the national dex entirely within Gen VI plus the demo suggests
New Pokemon are added to routes sometime (possibly postgame swarms), some new routes too

Well, no battle frontier is extremely disappointing but not surprising given the way x/y was handled. Probably going to skip this now.

Battle Frontier will be in.GF said they know about the lack of end-game content and they were gonna fix that.

No battle frontier? lol

Will still buy because I'm curious what they've done to Hoenn, I want to see if they've fixed the biggest issues from XY and I just really want a new game to play.

If this turns out to be disappointing I may consider not buying the next Pokemon game on launch for the first time ever. :(

I really hope the dude who tweeted that flew to the island before he actually unlocked the bf and was told that it's under construction. Like maybe it's the absolute last thing you unlock in the game and he didn't meet all the requirements and just didn't realize..

Where are people even getting this info from? Or is it just a spiral of rumors and misinformation?

There was a reviewer who was tweeting stuff about it, but the tweets have since been deleted. Make of it what you will. There is speculation that they're saving the BF for a day-one patch, but that seems unlikely IMO.

There is the Delta Episode and a bunch of other stuff, which probably fulfills that promise in their eyes.
