Pokemon Go Pokestops are now being removed

The only PokeStops you should be able to add are for property you own.

The whole thing is a class-action lawsuit waiting to blow.

as far as i know a library is public space no? so, thats the point of the pokestops, spots that all people can actually go without issues

We had a cemetery with about 8 Pokestops and one gym recently scrub the entire place clean. It's kind of a shame, since the grounds themselves are quite nice to look at, but I don't doubt that it was attracting some less appreciative folks that didn't have any respect for the sanctity of the memorials.

It was the same with Ingress, adding the possibility of public landmarks and structures being spots. That's why you never see a casino being a spot, but the fountain being a gym.

so there is not really traspassing or walking into private property when you go to the spots, i dont know why that user talked about "only submitting your property to be a pokestop" or a "class-action lawsuit" :S

Man, every single piece of news is negative for this game.

Removal of tracking features, bugs that cause you to waste pokeballs ($$$), removal of pokestops and gyms...

Was nice while it lasted.

they removed the pokestops because the library wanted to, not because they are removing all the pokestops

i mean the thread title is a little misleading, but yeah

There was another post showing that someones entire neighbourhood got wiped - I wouldn't want to play anymore after that. Sounds like they're removing them at first request which is a slippery slope.

Pretty sure it'd be a bigger issue if they weren't accepting requests for removals.

Soooo is there anything left to do in the game anymore?

Play in public spaces where people don't care where you are. It's a bit less sexy.

I hope people in charge of cemeteries know about this so they could get them removed.

Removal of dangerous or inapropriate (like private property) places is understable but not wiping all pokespots and gyms from a town.

Also anyone can request a withdrawal without any kind of security check from Niantic, so if you live in the middle of bunch of haters, just like the guy in my screenshot, you're screwed.
It would be less a problem if we could summit new spots or gyms but we can't.

Damn, that sucks.

I'm shocked

But for real I knew it was only a matter of time. Don't blame them at all, Pokemon is absolutely affecting business's, both in a positive and negative way

Side note, heard a car commercial on the radio today " Do you want a used car as perfect as Pikachu? Mint as Mewtwo? Head on down" hahah

Meanwhile, the library I work at is doing a test run event around the stops and gym that are located around it:

They hope to do more during Fall semester.

I wasn't referring to the library. I was referring to the posts about adding places in general.

A library is a public location and sure, you can add it. That doesn't mean the library shouldn't be able to demand to be on a permanent no-PokeStop list.

What's interesting is that the governor of SC is asking Niantic to put back the Pokestops that were removed from the state house grounds.

I was also surprised that here in France, some shop use Pokéstop to attract consummer. I also hear several people in my relatively small town talk about it.
It's really crazy the impact this game has.

the water tower at my work got removed......for no reason!!!! No one even ever went there! Even my mother who works with me asked HR if anyone had asked to remove the stop lol. No one even knew what a PokeStop was. They seem to just be removing stops as well as requested ones just for the hell of it.

So not only requested ones are being removed but anything they feel shouldn't be there even if no complaints have been filed!

Worried about grumpy adults or trolls submitting requests for unsubstantiated pokestop removals. That said, I really wouldn't know how to supervise the process on Niantic's end. From a logistics standpoint, vetting complaints for removal or requests for an addition must be a living nightmare at this volume.

I'm sure one was removed outside the local Asda in town. Which was super weird because there were two next to each other, a statue and then a different statue. Except now only one statue is a pokestop, not the one next to it. It's super weird.

no you see, they are just a bunch of lazy greedy a-holes so fuck them! /s

I've never seen that Pokestops are legit. I went to a remote rest area at the texas-Louisiana border that had a pokestop. THere was like a dozen or so people there.

Man, I wish I lived in a country where it was released (or would ever BE released) so I had some kind of frame of reference for all these crazy stories.

HR probably wouldn't know a thing about it. But security might if there is security.

Also given how pokestops are linked with Ingress portals, it's probably not possible for them to relocate pokestops without it affecting ingress. So it's easier to just remove it.

The church near my house removed theirs as well. Every night someone would park their car and use a lure, and soon the parking lot would be nearly filled with people sitting in their cars catching Pokemon. :(

they play it! LOL

That's the reason why their security walks have increase, is because they are playing pokemon go. When PokeVision worked you could see it just on that page all day passing the desk, I couldn't stop laughing.

The boss of my building doesnt want it there because people often come overnight doing things they shouldnt be?

It's private property. Just because pokestops exist at a place, doesnt mean your cellphone game gives you permission to just trespass. Not saying you said that, but some people need to be reminded.

It's probably their boss who got the pokestop removed.

He's trying to get security back to work.

What a silly comment.

Depends on the library. Research and university libraries are one thing. There will always be uses.
Public libraries, like the one I work at....no one has a reason to come here as everything we have is online. Only the homeless, the poor and the hopelessly computer illiterate come here.

People leave way too much rubbish lying around when they congregate around lured pokestops, trash like these ruin the fun for everyone as the stops are more likely to get removed.

My work had one removed from our office. Guess it was pissing off the security guys when people would walk up to our building with their phones out.
