Pokemon GO update removes footprints from nearby tracker

Pokevision was a workaround to make the hunting in the game somewhat enjoyable due the footprint bug... a 15min spam pokemon can't make you go to the other part of the city, just be aware of were are the pokemons close to you... pokemons that with the radar working you could be able to track.

so don't blame ppl to try and enjoy an unjoyable game due bugs with third paty apps/webs.

I don't even know that pokemons just spawn in 15min time periods... and used pokevision 'cause with the bug wasn't even able to find a Pikachu showing in my nonworking radar.

So I just booted the game up after the patch.

The tracker is still there ... and it's still sorted by distance, but the footprints are gone.

It's really not a big deal in any way, and I suspect that the footprints will return at some point.
Really? It doesn't seem sorted to me. Just a useless tab with random Pokémon that never spawn around me.

It's not sorted by distance. It's basically random.

Agreed

Outside of the server problems the game was better on D1
I think the problem is the majority of players outside of America never even played the game the way it was intended to be played. Hence the lack of complete abandonment. The people who are okay wth tracking being gone likely never meaningfully used it in the first place.

I just don't see how anyone could have a meaningful, fun time with this game in its current state. The game was literally perfect at launch. It's a damn shame.

For someone who dislikes it so much right now, you've spent 2 days posting every third post in this thread.

What? It's the same game, minus footprints, and we don't even know if they're gone for good. People who liked the surprise in the game are happy I guess. Like me.

Rumor is they not doing shit and left the YTS kid to run the show while they all swim in money.

How do you really feel, though? Try and connect with your inner emotions. A more passionate reaction might be healthy.

The rumor is they're just taking it out not to bug people while they fix it. True?

Who knows.

The fact that there are rumors or that people have to ask whether things are true or not demonstrate the biggest screw up Niantic did with this game:

Lack of proper communication of any form.

Wrong. It costs no money to download; you don't speak on behalf of everyone as to whether it's free to play or not. Some people (myself included) have spent money on it.

And even if it were free, that doesn't make Niantic exempt from criticism. When a game is held back from greatness due to terrible handling/communication by a developer, they absolutely can be called out.

Critique all you want. It's just all overblown ITT.

Also if you actually found it necessary to drop ANY money on this, then this game is playing you, son.

A lot of people I know have put money in including myself, we live in the sticks and have fuck all pokecentre's, level rewards only get you so far as 12-14 after that it is impossible.

Wow, the outcry about this on Reddit and other outlets is crazy. I thought people would be quick to brush this under the rug and defend Niantic. Hopefully this pushes them to actually act.

Of course. No matter what side of the fence you are for Pokevision style apps, everyone wants some form of tracking back in the game.

Honestly that non-fix and the blurry text at points are the only bad things about this update.

Spent 45 minutes walking my dog around the park with an Ekans and a Cubone on my radar the entire time. Never ran into either.

Also confirmed that the sorting of the Pokemon list is still completely random. Heck, the Pokemon that's closest to you might not even be on the list if you're in a high density area.

Glad they broke their game entirely in order to prevent minor cheating.

But you surely ran into a rattata or a Pidgey right?

And was a ton of fun right?

Just like Niantic wanted!

You're comparing a system that was broken and totally unseable to some chipped paint on a wall. Like, that's beyond stupid. The two aren't even close to being on the same level. A wall is still 100% useable even if it had no paint whatsoever. Thinking about it for more than 3 seconds should have been enought to tell you that it was a stupid post to make. You really compared them removing a system that was completely broken, to you tearing down an entire wall because some paint got chipped. I mean my god.

Aside from that ridiculous comparrison, they removed the system because having a broken system is worse than having no system at all. A broken one leads to confusinon. You're assuming they're never going to fix it and I'd say that's a daft assumption to make. They'll put it back when they can fix it, and have removed it in the mean time to avoid confusing people who think all pokemon are 3 prints away.
The company have form.

Just today they've removed the battery saver option in the game that worked perfectly fine.

Or I wanted to reward a developer for a game well made that I find (found) enjoyable and that, precisely, is very generous and playable without spending a dime. Son.

I'm not going to take that from someone with a Kingdom Hearts avatar.

I'm sorry you have no other reason to go for a walk and need instant gratification in your Pokemon hunt.

And of course, from shameless anti-consumer shit to straight up ad hominem attacks. Another one for the ignore list.

It didn't work perfectly fine. More often than not the game would be non-responsive coming out of battery saving mode. It was a widely reported issue.

It didn't. Coming out of battery saving left the game unable to respond to input half the time.

But it is telling that they simply removed it instead of fixing it.

1. It didn't work fine.

2. The screen dims by default now on iOS. I've mentioned this several times and you just don't seem to care about that.

But the app performed way worse before. It was in shambles before the latest update.

lol you serious? I responded to snark with snark.

"Hunt for it"

It's odd that people are acting like the game never had tracking in it.

What the fuck would you call tracking down pokemon when the game was released? Is hunting for it somehow inaccurate? Do you think you're being cute?

-_-

i don't understand why people call using pokevision is cheating?

it's like watching a walk-through or reading in a guide where to catch every Pokemon,do you call that cheating?

oh,i get it now,Nintendo prevent walk-through videos for their games because they think it's cheating, that's why they ordered to stop pokevision?

That I totally understand.

'I paid the optional extras to get items faster and junk so now I'm entitled to rage when you remove a feature that was fucking broken'.

That line of thinking is what's dumb here.

I guess you blocked me? Fuck differing opinions amirite?

There has been no communication on this issue so that's just hopeful optimism with a company that has shown no good will towards players of this game or its past game.

I haven't played since tracking was removed either. It no longer gives me an incentive to go for a walk, without the option to proactively go out and hunt a Pokemon. Instead the only real way to play the game is to passively sit around and wait at a lured Pokestop until the game gives you a random Pokemon. That's boring and feels hollow and unearned. I could leave the game open as I walk around while doing chores outside and such, but without the option of noticing a Pokemon I want on the radar and tracking it, the only thing that's realistically going to happen is my battery will evaporate and a Rattata might show up. woo

I went to a college campus today and there were zero Pokemon spawning aside from a lure. The campus has 20 plus Pokestops. The Pokemon spawning mechanics of this game are shit. External tools need to be available.

My interest died hard too. Seems like others are finding less reason to play too. Pokevision and the like were great reasons to say "oh hey I will walk over to this area" instead of just hanging out at a particular spot hoping something interesting pops.

I never even used the PokeVision thing. My real gripe is with the in game tracking that was removed just a few days after launch with no word on a fix from Niantic.

I caught like 20 Pokemon today, and only a few of those were from a lure (including a CP 1091 Pinsir and CP 229 Bulbasaur :D)

Your mileagr may vary, but def something they should work on.

I'm not upset at all by the removal of the footprints. With the 3 step glitch, I had to play the game normally without it. That didn't ruin the fun for me. I'm not wandering aimlessly too, just going about a normal walk and just seeing what's available along the way.

Nintendo prevents walkthroughs of their games?

They've been consistently incompetent in dealing with community issues since the start (much as they were on their last game, for those of us who are Ingress veterans) and these third-party apps were the thing that was keeping the game nonetheless enjoyable. There's no reason to assume any upside scenario about this or give them the benefit of the doubt until they actively change their behavior and show they can do things differently than they've done so far.

Again, I completely agree that in terms of communication Niantic has been abysmal, but do you think they are completely taking out tracking forever? Would they take out a core mechanic of a game like that completely, especially one that was so heavily advertised? Did they ever just take out a core mechanic of the game with Ingress (I never played so you may be better equipped to answer this)? All honest questions.

Makes me really appreciative when, say, Bungie is very communicative with Destiny, giving weekly updates and in depth details on changes to the game.

I get that a lot of apps don't really require constant commication with people, but man, at least a "Current Updates" page when you load up the game for the first time that day would be fine.

The problem is, there might be some legit reasons they're taking a while and for all we know we'll see the tracker back next week.

But if they say nothing, then it's just rampant speculation. People assuming the worst. Makes them look worse than they need to.
