Pokemon GO update removes footprints from nearby tracker

How dare they remove a non-functioning feature that did nothing but confuse users, most likely while they come up with a way to fix it. What am I going to do without that literally worthless piece of information on my screen?
It actually did work until they purposely broke it. It was great and a lot of fun. We all want this to be successful but going with the attitude that it's okay to remove the point of the game isn't going to fly with the majority of people.

Fine by me. I'm sure it'll be coming back. I've played the game without the steps working more than I've played it when it did work and it hasn't messed with my enjoyment.

They "purposely broke it" because the game was neigh unplayable. Yeah cool, there's the step coun- and the game has crashed.

I always used battery saver mode so that is annoying

-_-

Just for the eggs really but still, every time I went out to the shops, I'd put it on and turn off the sound/music and listen to Spotify.

Niantic can go fuck themselves. You don't just remove a core mechanic of the game like that.

Absolutely unbelievable. And no community management either.

I will continue to use as many cheat sites as I can for this game until they stop killing it.

I personally switched it off on iOS because I'd always encounter the bug where the game stopped taking touch inputs after coming out of said mode.

Wait what

Spoken like someone who never actually used the tracking feature. It worked perfectly, btw.

Ah, sometimes my iphone would stop taking inputs but I didn't realise the bug was connected to sleep mode.

Wait what

I mean the trackers. Which I have now discovered are also dead.

Legitimately considering uninstalling the game, and I was close to buying coins for incubators earlier today. Niantic has the WORST community management I have ever seen for such a popular app. It's absolutely absurd.

It only worked for a few days, and not very well either.

Uh, it was most certainly not working prior to its removal. That's why the removal (hopefully temporary) is inconsequential and is actually beneficial when it comes to player confusion.
It worked perfectly well for me before they nerfed it. Made a 10/10 game into a 4/10 that day.

And now all the third party tracking websites are shut down?

What the heck are they thinking?

They need to fix this shit asap. Pokevision and other tracking apps are down most of the time for me so it's not like there's a replacement.

Hopefully they add them back SOON. The social and fun aspect of the game depends on it.

Nintendo should step in before these Niantic amateurs end up ruining the hype for the app due to their constant neglect.

Honestly, I'm amazed they haven't already. As popular as this game is, it could be far more so if it worked or were at least open about fixing it's problems. As far as most people are concerned, Nintendo are responsible for this, so I don't know why they don't seem to actually be doing anything about all these problems.

Is the transfer button gone too? Or is my phone just bugging out.

Still not there after a couple of restarts...

EDIT: no it's in a sub menu now, phew.

I can't believe there are still people defending Niantic when they've removed literally every way to actually track Pokémon. (First the steps, now the PokeVision sites)

Why do you people still care about and play a game that's so blatantly broken and with no fix in sight? You know if more people stopped playing, they'd fix the broken game.

Wait, they fucked up Pokevision?

Oh that's it. Fuck you Niantic.

Got a new job anyway so I think now is a good time for a hiatus. I'll come back when/if they add trading in.

That's quite the core feature they decided to turn off. Hopefully only temporary?

Oh well, also hope they eventually add some minor feature for things to do when you can't be outside walking. It'd be cool to be able to still level up while at home.

Considering that Battery Saver mode was also removed, and that didn't work properly either (it made the game crash more frequently when enabled), I'm guessing they'll fix these things and re-add them when working.

Not that it excuses the complete lack of communication.

Because it costs no money to play and this really isn't a big deal.

The steps never worked for me since the beginning, so I've been used to play the game without them. Still tons of fun and the game encourages you to walk, so it's been helping me a lot anyay.

I had a Snorlax pop up on my radar screen, but because there's no way to track them I had virtually no shot of finding him. It's very frustrating. I've already missed out on three Scythers by my house, and who knows how many other uncommon or rare Pokemon because there hasn't been a way to track them.

What they need to do is implement a hot/cold system, where if you select a Pokemon on your nearby radar it will actually give you a direction that starts off vague but gets progressively more accurate the closer you get. Not only would you feel like you were actually tracking Pokemon, but would no longer have those defeating moments of aimlessly walking around without any form of radar hoping you got lucky and found what you were searching for.

Just because people have rationalized Niantic's reasoning for removing the steps (which is totally understandable) does not mean they are okay with the fact that it's broken in the first place. Their lack of communication is far more egregious.

Wrong. It costs no money to download; you don't speak on behalf of everyone as to whether it's free to play or not. Some people (myself included) have spent money on it.

And even if it were free, that doesn't make Niantic exempt from criticism. When a game is held back from greatness due to terrible handling/communication by a developer, they absolutely can be called out.

Let me pay coins to know pokemon locations. I know you want to take my money Niantic. Maybe I can pay for dratini spawns since you've removed dratini nests in my community too.

A perfectly working feature that was very likely a part of the reason the servers were constantly buckling under the pressure. I'm sure struggling to stay logged in was also great and a lot of fun, I know I really enjoyed it.

I don't have any dratini nests either. Most probably don't.

It's like you actually want the 3 step glitch to keep confusing people.

No; I'm actually fine with them them removing it if they're doing so temporarily until a fix is implemented. But my problem is the lack of communication.

Looks like the person I was responding to wasn't making excuses for Niantic though, so I think I misunderstood their post, which is my mistake.

Tracking never worked for me, more of annoyance than anything else. I remember walking around for 20 minutes trying to narrow down a Bulbasaur for nothing. We had other people at the lake doing the same thing and nobody managed to find anything when we all could've been actually hitting up stops and catching random pokemon.

If they bring it back and it actually works then great, but removing a broken feature that barely worked in the first place is certainly not something to get angry about.

They removed battery saver mode... I don't know who's decision in the company to keep this silent approach. This is puzzling.

well yeah, but we need an outrage first

People tend to panic when they're not given all the facts and have to speculate. If only there were websites where companies could communicate with their customers and keep them in the loop, a place for "social networking" if you were. Too bad there's no such thing.

So Niantic are too busy shutting pokevision and Co down to work on fixing their game?

One thing pokevision and Co have taught me is niantic tracking is bullshit.
"You have a haunter nearby, top left of your list,he's real close"
*checks trackers*
He's about 3/4 of a mile away..

After a period of no inputs, the screen dims just like battery saver mode but without the Pokemon Go logo. Was out today and noticed that, when normally the screen would stay very bright without battery saver mode on.

Either this is actually coded into the app, or the app doesn't limit screen auto brightness anymore.

Not a Pokemon GO player, but it sucks that it seems they're taking out features that make the game popular. Real shame.

No fix in sight?

Do you honestly think this is permanent?

Please.

Edit:

It's not really an over reaction. The complete lack f communication leads us to believe it's never going to be fixed.

Oh, you do.
