So not having touched a Pokemon Game since err Pokemon Red(I think?) would you suggest X/Y above Black or Black 2?
I'm trying to get back into the series :<
Definitely.

I'd lie if I said that these are the perfect games. They aren't, not even close. Only a few new Pokemon, I was not really impressed by Kalos and of course the post game is really bad.
Despite that, after Gen 3, this XY are the best pokemon games that I actually managed to play for more than 150 hours. Actually, I still play XY. The reason is simple. These are truly the best games for a competitive player. The breeding is far easier with the Destiny Knot, the ev training has also got better with hordes and super training and the online interface is really perfect. You can battle your friends or a random person really easy. No stupid facilities or anything but battles on the spot.
Just pick up XY, the improvements mechanically makes them the superior experience alone.
Definitely.
Both Gen 5 games are better than X&Y, but if you haven't played since Gen 1, you might enjoy XY more as it is a more modern experience and includes more older Pokemon.

Even if multiplayer doesn't interest you I would still say X/Y because I personally didn't care for B/W.
Pet peeve, sorry but urgh.
Gen 1: A magnet and a pile of slude as Pokémon? Really?
Also, Klefki isn't a key Pokémon. Klefki is a fairy that becomes attached to keys and grabs them and holds them for their entire life. The keys aren't part of the Pokémon.
Framerate should be fine as long as you keep the 3D off.Ok cool thanks. Think I might do both. Pick up X/Y now and see if I can get BW second hand or cheap. The technical talk about X/Y has me worried though as I'm sensitive to framerate on a smaller screen.
Last question with B/W .. is there any reason to pick up Black V1 over V2? I mean is B2 just like an update or is it a full fledged sequel?
Never said, that there aren't bad designed Pokémon in other Pokémon games. I used those 2 to emphasize my point, because I think, that Pokémon X and Y have the worst new Pokémon, of all Pokémon games.
And I really don't care, what Klefki is, it's just a bad design and saying, that the keys aren't a part of the Pokémon, doesn't excuse that point at all for me, because without them, the Pokémon would lose it's purpose...

BW2 are intended to be played after the player has played BW as they take place two years after but they still work as a standalone experience.

X and y did have the best legendaries in a long, long time. And by best, I mean not over designed shit.
They still lack the organic look of the early gen legendaries though. I'm tired of robotic looking legendary pokemon :/

Robotic?
Well compared to an articuno or ho-oh they don't look very much like natural creatures imo. I mean Yveltal is a flying pokemon, yet it's wings looks nothing like something that would enable it too fly by natural means
A lot of pokemon have items that aren't "part" of them
And I disagree. It has banchou panda, a fucking T-rex, a barnacle man, a howitzer crustacean, a slime dragon monster, a possessed royalty sword that conspires, and many other more. Hell, I'd argue that it has the best themed starter trio.
Most people thought XY had better designed designs but I can get what your saying. IMO gen 4 designs were much worse than XY, just adding spikes and making the pokemon more complicated and bigger ugh. Out of curiosity, what gen has the best designs in your opinion?
Sorry, but I don't really see a reason, why I should discuss this with you. It's my opinion after all. If you feel different, good for you, I guess.
Tough one, but Gen 3. It has the least amount of Pokémon, that I don't like, design wise.

The classic Pokémon look plain because the GameBoy couldn't handle much detail. Since Gen III, they've been able to include such detail and stop Pokémon just being one or two colours
wait what
Zapdos does look kinda iffy. But it still looks more like a flying pokemon than Yveltal imo. Zapdos' design also communicates what kind of pokemon it is than Yveltal.
In general I just think the early pokemon, that were mostly based on either real world or mythical references, were far superior to the ones we get now. The modern pokemon just look to clean and perfect I guess? Arcanine compared to Pyroar comes to mind
?

You shared your opinion, so it's then open for discussion. Since when are opinions magically not for discussion?
Hmm yeah I can understand that, evven though I started with gen 3, there's still some designs in there thatI hate.
I disagree, if anything I feel the old designs save for a few tend to be "generic". A lot of new Pokemon tend to have a rich lore in them in terms of designs.
And I'm confused how you mistook Yveltal and Xerneas as robotic or something.
I mean, you will find bad designs in every game. What matters, is the amount of bad designs, that you personally don't like.
Is Gen 4 your least favourite, design wise?
All it needed was more post game content, everything else was done perfectly
And this does?

Notice how all the games you listed were the 3rd iteration of the game. Its a common pattern of GF's to load up on a lot of content for the final version but then skimp on the next mainline game. I remember being pretty annoyed with D/P after Emerald.I'm not saying that. I'm not that interested in things like the story or the difficulty of the single player but I enjoy them and I don't want them to be diminished. I'm just saying that EXP All helped the post-training to be faster. About every month, there are official Online Competitions and I usually prepare a team, a week or so before the start of the registrations. After finding the Pokemon I want, with the moves, IVs etc I want, I need to make them Lvl 50. This takes half the time, it used to, despite XY not having many training spots. Things like O-powers and EXP All made it easier.
And I disagree that 95% of the game is the road to E4. XY are probably not the best games to see that, but people need to understand the importance of Pokemon after the league. Take Emerald, Platinum or B2W2 as an example. These games started when the story finished. So much content and things like the Battle Frontier were a real challenge. You needed to master strategies in order to win. The single player just needs over leveled Pokemon.
yeah Gen 6 to me was the best overall pokemon designs in a long time. Gen 4 was easily the worst. A lot of the additional evolutions were terrible. Most people thought XY had better designed designs but I can get what your saying. IMO gen 4 designs were much worse than XY, just adding spikes and making the pokemon more complicated and bigger ugh. Out of curiosity, what gen has the best designs in your opinion?
I see what you mean with Pyroar but I was never a big fan of that design. However I dont see how you can look at Xerneas and say it looks inorganic/unrealistic but say Zapdos, Moltres, Lugia and Mewtwo do. In fact Lugia has a similar frame to Yveltal as well in terms of ability to fly. I thought these legendaries were great and on par with the first two generation of Pokemon because they looked like real creatures that belonged in legends and they had an interesting backstory. Not robot dragon gods.I mean it's obviously subjective. But to me the first two gens of pokemon just had better design and looked more believable. New pokemons often have this overly clean look about them that just makes them feel fake and out of place. Again, compare Arcanine to Pyroar. Pyroar have this perfect mane/hair that looks like a stylist spend 2 hours getting it just right, it's just to "clean" imo.
I never mistook the X/Y legendaries for robotic. I just think that they look robotic/inorganic/unrealistic or whatever you want to call it. They don't look like living organic creatures to me
I loved it. I'm still trying to fill my pokedex, but i doubt i will before the new remakes.
