Pokemon X and Y, 7 months later

Loved it but it needed post game after Black/white 1 and black/white 2 having heavy post games but for a first on a system pokemon it was great. omega ruby/sapphire alpha something will be great and likely have tons of post game (hope)

Zero endgame. Other than that its my fav Poke game since Red.
Felt fresh, something i haven't felt with this series for some time.

Just bought Y for my 6yr old and he loves it. Basically the only reason i touch my copy of X at this point is to help him out with trades and some battles.

Game itself was cool but it was so easy that it became really boring half way through.

Are the gen 3 games challenging at all?

Compared to XY? Yes. Gym Leaders use more than 3 Pokemon as you progress and the level scale is better. DPPt(Gen IV) probably has the hardest main story in the series since the A.I. was much more coverage-happy than previous gens.

yeah, and what about that dragon-type one, zygarde was it called? what the hell was that about! i've tried to see what they were going for, but it's just a mess of a design. xerneas was alright though, it's just a deer i guess.

I think Zygarde's design is rad. Hexagons imply scales but with a rather "out of this world" touch, a deep cave creature that thankfully is benevolent.

With that said the third version feels like it will give it a push, since right now it's inferior.

Plus GameFreak's B-team is their best team.
Eh, don't know about that.

While I've enjoyed their output immensely, lets not forget that the bulk of the heavy lifting has already been done by the time they get there. They add the bells and whistles. Anyway, the teams are probably not that all that separate in actuality. Much like other development studios, it's likely that the project starts out with a small core of staff in pre-production and has steadily ballooned as work on X/Y winded down.

One thing I really liked about X/Y was the sense of a..."themed" (can't think of the right word) region again. Unova seemed like a bunch of random stuff thrown together, and while Kalos kind of does too, they really get the beauty/France aspect nailed down. All the flower gardens, scenic photo locations, historic looking buildings, hotels, and other touristy stuff like that really made me appreciate the region.

It's been 7 months? That means it's been 6 months and 3 weeks since I've touched it. I lost interest once I got to Lumiose because I couldn't figure out where the hell I was going.

It's a fantastic game with a wealth of much needed changes to the mechanics.

My biggest complaint is a lack of post game content. Breeding sure is great, and Battle Maison is cool if you want to earn some items, but other than that there's not much else to do.

I hope they can address this in ORAS, and with a lot of the post game content that was in R/S/E it's likely they will.

My thoughts are simple. Love what they did in terms of presentation, visuals, etc. But the content was weak and lacking, especially coming off the heels of Black and White which was a fairly strong entry.

Thank god we got Ruby/Sapphire coming - talk about strong content.

How prevalent is pokemon hacking online? Is it expected that every 'mon online be 31 IV in all stats with perfect nature / moveset?

It's not nearly as prevalent in past games because perfect IVs, EVs, and natures are all fairly easy to get now. But you'll still see some due to transferring Pokemon up from past games.

I still haven't finished the game yet.

I got it at release, played 40 minutes, and then haven't played it since.

It wasn't even bad, I just lost interest at the time... It's on my to-do list... I'll get to it... eventually...

I still rank them as my 2nd favourite entries in the series after G/S/C, they rekindled my interest in the franchise after many very disappointing releases. I totally agree with people that the lack of endgame content was rather pathetic, but I got more enjoyment out of the (relatively speaking) short amount of time I spent with X than I have from the entire franchise in over a decade.

I thought it was ok. I really want them to take more risks with the franchise though. I think they are playing it too safe (Can't blame em though, it sold a lot...).

My first Pokemon game and I'm enjoying it so far. I susspected going in that it would be "baby's first RPG" so I'm not bothered by the simple matters in which it does basically everything including story and combat. It's just fun to collect the monsters and see where I'll end up next.

Played/beat Blue when it first came out, played/gave up about half-way on Diamond when it came out, got X about half a month ago, and am having a blast. Exp share is kinda EZ mode but when you don't have the time to grind in rpgs anymore, it's super nice/appreciated. The game definitely is not balanced against it though as after taking a break just catching every pokemon type I saw for the 'dex before the 2nd gym and coming up with the setup of my current main team, I am still at a point where just rushing through I'm nearly 10 levels ahead of everything in my path and the gap just seems to be growing. I'm 1-shotting gym leader pokemon as soon as I get to the gym even, and the gap actually seems to be widening (I was only 5-ish levels ahead around the 2nd gym, now beaten the 5th gym leader last night with a single pokemon), and this is playing for maybe on average 15 minutes a day. It could definitely be harder but at this point I definitely prefer the lower difficulty to say Diamond where I just didn't have the time to grind out a good enough team and I had to run back to the poke-center each quarter leg through a new route, and then grind my team up/have to switch out and grind up low level guys who were the appropriate types for the gym leaders. The visuals are great (even with occasional slowdown) and really are doing a great job of drawing me back in to having attachment to certain pokemon/my team. Overall I get why a lot of people (especially hardcore fans) don't like it, but for me personally it's nearly perfect, or at the very least the best one I've seen/played.

It's my least favourite Pokémon next to gen 2.

+loved the 3D world
+loved the Pokémon 3D model
+Loved Pokémon Amié
+Loved the region and it's lore
+Loved the new Pokémon.
+love how smooth battle is compare to Stadium and Colosseum/XD
+loved the music.
+fairy type was interesting.
+like the long gap between the first and second gym it felt interesting.
+did a better job of introducing new Fairy type betting than gen 2 did with Dark and Steel.

-All the gym leader, aside from Korrina and Clemont were bland and lack any characters.
-Sky battle was a stupid gimmick.
-Not all Pokémon 3D model look good, Torkoal just doesn't look right compare to its Colosseum/XD model.
-Charizard cry was changed and it doesn't sound right for Charizard.
-Game was far too easy even with EXP share off, why wasn't Challege and easy mode made a staple feature.
-The Elite 4 was far to easy and had four Pokémon each.
-Diantha is one of the worse champion that I have ever seen grace the Pokémon series, she does nothing in the game, you only see her twice on your journey, doesn't know what Mega form is and yet has a Mega Gardevoir on her team which she always sends out last and her team feel really pathetic and nothing special.
-Korrina not being the champion, it made perfect sense and yet she wasn't given that role.
-Not being able to take off the god damn stakes, walking with the D-Pad isn't fun.
-The story feels a step backward compare to gen 5.
-Far too much gen 1 pandering.
-The low Pokémon count
-The ducking Legendary bird trios being the Kalos trios
-Too many old Pokémon in the region
-Didn't see the point in splitting the Pokédex into 3 part, seem real pointless to me.
-Xerneas and Yveltal felt shoehorned into the story.
-The stupid gen 1 attack sound effect for some attack, didn't need that crap in a 2013 game.
-Dexio and Sina for being ducking annoying and useless and their superhero gimmick was lame.
-Professor Sycamore was lame.
-Ice type didn't get a buff they sorely needed and Fairy type took away their only edge they had.
-Dark and fighting got more hindered by fairy than Dragon.
-Fairy resisting bug.
-Wonder trade being slow as the game boots you out rather than asking if you would like to wonder trade again.
-Sylveon being the only new evolution for past gen Pokémon.
-I Hate hate HATE mega evolution, they aren't new Pokémon and shouldn't be counted as one. as a result I refer to them as Mega Form because that's what they are.

Thank God for Omega Ruby.

This pretty much, the faith of gen 6 rest on the Hoenn remake and Pokémon Z to make gen 6 good or in my case redeem themselves and avoid going on the worse gen list.

Huh? Diantha uses six Pokemon.

She does but her team aren't interesting as Mega Gardevoir is clearly the star of her team and the team isn't built around that.

Yeah, just 72 Pokémon is a bit of a disappointment, but really when you add Mega Evolutions, that takes it up to 102 which is an acceptable amount. Mega Evolutions count in my head. They're not just "new forms", they're something new.

I am sorry but no, if we go by the in-game Pokédex listing it becomes clear that Mega don't count as new Pokémon and are no different from a form change.

Mega do not and can not be counted toward the Pokémon count, as Charizard Mega form changing to Charizard Y is not the same as Gligar evolving to Gliscor. One is permanently evolving into a new Pokémon and given a new Pokédex data whereas one is simply temporarily changing form and not given a new Pokédex data.

I agree with this so much. Its very difficult for me to see Megas as anything different than forme craze Platinum had. Especially since Pokemon can't even maintain Mega evos outside of battle. They're just very restrictive form changes with the word "evo" slapped on them to make the concept seem newer.

I like to think that GF put the same time and effort into those Megas as they would any other normal evo, and that's good enough for me when counting them as new Pokes. Especially when there's a decent amount of them.

I obviously see how some wouldn't really put them toward the new pokes count, but I'm able to rationalize it for myself.

It wasn't as good as gold and silver, but it was a fun game with a lot of OG pokemon. I felt that the game was way too easy and I hope for future installments they make it harder. They need a newer formula for the game too. A diverse team will just speed through the game no problem.

You can feel the effort just oozing from it.

...but as I went on I found the whole experience to be tedious.

I've enjoyed the Pokémon series for years, but yes, ev/iv training became unnecessarily tedious. But I guess that's the aura of playing a Pokémon game. Its hard work to train a powerful poke. Its just, I don't desire to raise/breed virtual creatures anymore. Still enjoy the franchise though.

Mediocre games. Boring post game if you're not into breeding.
Huge letdown in terms of story, (coming from the generation that had Black and White).

The new engine was amazing, though.

Best game in the series from a competitive standpoint as the battling and breeding mechanics were streamlined.

The main quest itself is still baby's first rpg which really isn't all that different from the other games, tho I will admit it was even easier. Not just for the experience share but you had two starters (3 for launch buyers due to Torchic). Really it looks like they just wanted you to get to breeding and battling.

So fans of the metagame win, whereas others expecting a JRPG had a lot left desired.

Yup, this pretty much sums up XY.

X and Y are the best games since Gold/Silver, easily so.

That said the series is still ludicrously flawed, and you have to put up with a bunch of BS to enjoy it. And X/Y are a technical disaster, from the missing 3D to some truly appalling frame-rates.

But most of the important stuff they got right, and that's what matters.

So once the Gen 3 remakes come out, wouldn't they become the best games in the series to you? Because nothing from X&Ys campaign is better than R/S/E, literally nothing.

R/S/E are by far the worst games the mainline series has ever had. They made me lose interest in the series for years after playing them. Just shows the power of opinions I guess.

They're technically harder I suppose, but I wouldn't expect any sort of challenge. It's like "impossible to lose" vs. 'impossible to lose +1".

Nope! By worst I think you meant the deepest with the most amount of post-game content.

I loved the game. But now that I've beaten it and IV trained a couple Pokemon... Well, I don't have much to do outside of Wi-Fi battles.

Really enjoyed the main game, it's weird how in this game YOU ARE GARY OAK.

Completed it and loved it, all my pokes were averaging lvl70.

But I found once the main story was done there wasn't really a lot to do post game.

Sure collect them all is great, but nothing really to keep me playing.

or Am I missing something?

No there is literally nothing to do in the game once you finish it. The amount of post game content is as shockingly bad as Ruby and Sapphire's was back in 2003. It was a horrible regression, especially coming right off of HeartGold/SoulSilver and Black 2/White 2 (or even Diamond/Pearl and Black/White, both of which had a great amount of post game content even as the headlining games of their generation).

lol, has it been that long? I haven't played it since that launch week. Yikes. 100% swept up in the hype, that's the only reason I bought a copy.

I enjoyed it, but it had some flaws. For example, the complete lack of post-game content, incredibly easy difficulty even by Pokemon standards, and low framerate (even in 2D mode, the battles were pretty much a slideshow in 3D mode).

On the flipside, I loved that they are making it easier to get into competitive play. It still isn't quite there yet but I like how I can get perfect IV Pokemon within an hour, and it only takes about 15 minutes to EV train them.

The music was okay. There were a few stand out tracks but otherwise fairly forgettable. The most memorable tunes in the game were actually remixes of songs from previous games.

I'd probably put it around Diamond/Pearl as a mid-tier Pokemon game. B/W and G/S being at the top with R/S stuck right at the bottom.

So does that mean you count Origin Forme Giratina and the other Forme as new Pokémon?

This pretty much, Game Freak focused way to heavily on the Meta game and as a result the in-game fell flat.

Nope! By worst I think you meant the deepest with the most amount of post-game content.

Um what? Ruby and Sapphire post game content consist of

-Catching Latias/Latios
-Catching Rayquaza
-Battle tower.

Are you confusing it with Emerald, which had the superior post game content?

Eh, don't know about that.

And i already explained this. Team one lays the foudation and puts up the frame of the house. Team two finishes the damn thing. Which house do you want? A or B?

If i had the willpower id skip the first game of every new gen especially as the hardware becomea more complex. It is like GF is under time contraints and just cany do everything they want to do in time. Id rather pay full price for the complete experience.

I adored the game, but was disappointed that 3D wasn't fully implemented.

Forget the B-team, Game Freak in general is not that great at the start of each generation. The later iterations that they have for each generation is just leaps and bounds better. That includes remakes too.
