They suspect they were stolen from unoccupied hunting cabins that they found their DNA in recently.

Hunting cabins had been broken into lately. Someone claimed he was missing a relic shotgun and who knows what else they could have grabbed.
Convicted felons in prison custody (escaped or not) don't get trials for crimes committed while serving time. Right?
Why would they need a trial ? Like the state needs to prove that these guys broke out of prison ?

I'd have the imagine that only finding one of them, they would have preferred to bring him in alive to try and get some information on the other one.
I didn't think that was how it worked. Like if an inmate assaults a guard in prison, they just add more time to his sentence, they don't have a trial.
But yeah, it would be a waste of resources, not that that's ever stopped the government from doing something.
