Pollyanna: An Animated Earthbound Tribute

Why is there a giant vagina on the front of the robot?

I love everything about this video. Everything. Earthbound is my GOAT, no hyperbole whatsoever. The common refrain is that you'd kill for something. Well, for me, that's another Fallout game. For another Mother game, I would commit genocide
not really
.

There's a motif in the house music, but it's a Mother 1 song. It doesn't evoke memories of Earthbound, and the point of that video is to well up nostalgia, so I feel that it's a miss, musically.

Smash Bros. has taught me to get used to MOTHER 1 songs representing EarthBound.

This is wonderful. Earthbound has been one of my favorite games of all time ever since I first played it about a decade ago, and this drives a lot of emotions back home. I re-bought it on Wii U VC simply as a means of showing my support for the franchise... it might finally be time to for a replay.

That was awesome. One day I have to do a full earthbound/mother run and play all three games back to back to back.

This was heartwarming, I'm pretty sure I shed a tear at the end of it. Really encapsulates everything that's beautiful about Earthbound and what makes it such a special game.

lol, too true. Ness has been playable in all four games, but the only music specifically from EarthBound has been, what, Fourside and Smiles and Tears? Hopefully the Wii U version will deliver the goods.

NoA retweeting it has to mean something, right?

About as much as EarthBound being in the featured section of the Wii U's Nintendo eShop storefront for almost every week since its release over a year ago (at least in North America), along with there being an EarthBound announcement community on Miiverse (the only Virtual Console title with that distinction).

I truly think something EarthBound/Mother series-related is coming, but only time will tell.

EarthBound is their best-selling virtual console game that hasn't been available for thirty cents (and even beating out most that actually did have thirty cent sales). They want to ride the nostalgia train as much as they can, but whether or not they'll capitalize on it and bring over Mother 3 is a different story.

It was really well-done, I enjoyed watching it. I think it would've been more touching if it actually used music from Earthbound rather than Mother 1, though.

Pollyanna is played inside Ness' house like every time you go there.

I covered that already in a post right below the one you quoted.

Ah, sorry. I would consider Pollyanna to be a leitmotif that refers to the journeys and nostalgia of previous Mother games. Consider its usage in the other entries:

EarthBound: Beginning part plays after leaving Pokey Minch's house, after meeting Buzz Buzz; it is also heard in full in Ness's home, albeit very slowed down.

Mother 3: Plays in the Empire Porky Building's Hall of Memories.

Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl: Plays as an alternate track on the Onett stage, called "Mother 2", titled as to imply it is Earthbound/Mother 2's main theme.

I see it as the quintessential adolescent adventure song that isn't necessarily confined to Mother 1. I think it fits.

That was both fun, cute and well done. The Mother series may not have the biggest community behind it, but at least from the perspective of someone that doesn't actively interact with it, it does seem like a very passionate bunch. It's weirdly rare to see the face of a fanbase be something overwhelming positive. It's twice as adorable since how I perceive them is kind of in line with how I view the games' spirit in general.

Was incredibly fun to watch. Haven't gotten far in the game, I only played a bit more than a decade ago on an emulator and now I've been waiting for an official release, and I'm buying it as soon as I get a wii u. I've had most stuff sorta spoiled by different write ups and appreciation articles I've read not to mention Mother 3 also plays the nostalgia card with a lot of imagery (was surprising to see the Osohe Castle painting in that video for instance)

But the Mother series is not about the end destination, but the journey you take part on, so very eagerly waiting for a chance to experience it throughout.

(I also should get back to Mother 1 someday)

This short has been in the works for several years and until now only a couple minutes with a few color shots along with some pencil test footage was available, glad to see they finally finished it because it's absolutely incredible. The fact Itoi even took the time to give it a shoutout speaks volumes to the level of professionalism and emotional notes that the short so beautifully displays. This deserves all the attention it can get.

Ness cracking the Starman open with the bat, Poo destroying the hydra thing, Paula freezing that one enemy and her reflection showing in the ice cube... man, the Earthbound cast look good in this.

Great video, super well done. One day I'll play Earthbound again, and get further than the Chaos Theatre.

Could not disagree more. To me, Pollyanna is to the Mother series what Luke's theme from A New Hope is to the Star Wars films. That beautiful music in the first movie when Luke looks up wistfully at the twin suns in the early night sky above his family's homestead before he goes off on his epic adventure and when he solemnly gazes at the galaxy's core later at the end of Empire Strikes Back while standing with Leia, R2 and C3PO who are there to support him after his brutal struggle earlier in the film. Just because it was primarily featured in the first movie, few would fault someone who made a Star Wars tribute video that made Luke's theme the focus because just like Pollyanna, Luke's theme evokes the feelings of leaving home to go on an adventure coupled with faith in your friends and family to get you through your shared trials. It would be interesting to see another video from this artist that used covers of some of Earthbound's overworld themes but in this case, the overworld elements were represented visually instead of audibly which worked out perfectly in my opinion.

Finally got around to watching this. I haven't completed Earthbound yet and I only know the music from smash bros but goddamn was this beautiful and touching all at once.

I'm sorry but is it okay if I bump this :(

I just found this video and immediately after absorbing it had to see if it had been shared on GAF before... and it had (thankfully, what a crime for it to go unnoticed.)

But I really think all MOTHER fans should see and enjoy this!

I'm sure there are some of you out there who haven't seen this yet (only a one page thread... so clearly a lot of people!) -- watch it!

It was a good enough bump for me--I never saw this before. Awesome tribute! I usually cringe at the thought of fans writing lyrics to video game songs but this video handled it pretty gracefully. The artstyle was gorgeous too.

Nintendo has that silly Nintendo Video app on the 3ds, and I wish they would partner with fans such as these to get video's like these collated on their...perhaps in 3d?

Yup, good bump, I just found it myself in an Earthbound LTTP thread a day or two ago and it blew me away, especially with Earthbound fresh in my mind from my first playthrough a couple of months ago.

Always found it rather funny these vocal Mother tracks were sung in Britain (or at least by Brits) when the series' debut here is technically considered to be 2014 with the Earthbound VC release.

Cute little animation.
This pretty much takes you through every single plot point with about as much explanation as the game.

Fucked up the Giygas part big time though. Like, unbelievably so.

Damn, nice bump, as I had also missed this when it came out.

I haven't played through Earthbound since the original SNES cart when it first came out. May have to give it another go since I bought it on the Wii U a bit ago...
