Polygon: The Marvel Games team knows you want a new Marvel vs. Capcom

I can agree with that. Since I was a little kid I've always wanted Shonen Jump Vs. Capcom or a Capcom All-Stars fighter. Marvel just seems like most likely as of now though.

::fist bump::

It just seems that Capcom would have an easier time licensing Shonen Jump characters, rather than having to hassle with Marvel.

I must say that no other company has gotten Marvel quite like Capcom. When I think about some of the attention to detail in some of the fighters, in terms of animation and atmosphere... You would swear that Marvel themselves made the game.

Well.. Jill has her RE3 alt, and can trigger Nemesis to say STARS at the start of a match

That pretty much wraps up what she has going for her in MvC3.

Which reminds me, aren't Jill & Shuma banned from competitive play now because of the DLC delisting thing?

Nope, not to my knowledge. The setups are harder to find but I can't think of any tourneys where they've been banned.

Shuma's actually getting pretty popular as an assist lately.

Hah hah

No
I mean, Richie is still the default Nova in Marvel Heroes, & they've been kinda phasing Sam out of stuff as of late. As for Spider-Man, having Miles instead of Peter is like having Dick Grayson in a Batman game instead of Bruce Wayne. Not a bad choice, but a baffling one.

Actually I just want UMvsC3 to be BC compatible for my Xbone because I was PC only at the time.

...apparently it's really easy to do...

...much easier than making a new game...

...might be a nice holdover for a lot of people...

Dam brah. Angelic had some pretty hype Shuma comebacks when no one else was using him. Don't tell me that those 2 somehow detract from a roster with Hsien-Ko, Ghost Rider and Tron(without invincible Gustaff Fire) in it?

Nobody was asking for Shuma and (that incarnation of) Jill. Nobody sane, at least. The MvC3 devs were though, but that's why I added the "sane" qualifier.

I made a list for MVC4 with 54 characters. Forget all that "no xmen/FF" stuff, this was just for fun. I tried to make the roster very different from previous games but keeping favorites.

Capcom:

Ryu
Lillith
Megaman X
Tron Bonne
Edward Falcon
Vanessa Z. Schneider
Jill Valentine
Lisa Trevor
Wesker
Gene
Phoenix Wright
Dante
Jin Saotome
Twelve
Chun Li
Chuck Green
Strider
Ruby Heart
Cpt. Commando
Lord Raptor
Q-Bee
Asura
Nero
Protoman
Monster Hunter hunter
Laura
Lady

Marvel:

Spiderman
Cpt. America
Iron Man
Hulk
Wolverine
Magneto
Sentinel
Jubilee
Venom
Doc Ock
Green Goblin
Luke Cage
Groot
Human Torch
Howard the Duck
Night Crawler
Kamala Khan (Ms Marvel)
Gamora
Modok
Loki
Ultron
DareDevil
Namor
Jane Foster (Thor)
Dr. Doom
Deadpool
Shuma the god damn Gorath

I'm not sure if they would put Jane Foster over Thor Odinson for an MvC game. At most, Jane Thor would be an alternate costume.

I still haven't played MVC3. I really need to.

What's that, you want Gatcha mechanics? Done!

God I would love for Sega to put out a remastered Shenmue 1 and 2 with new capsule machines.

Not at all, and I was super disappointed in Jill too, but if there were a PS4 port it would be silly to not have them, is what Neoxon was saying. The fact those 2 were DLC is almost offensive to fans, but it's over and done. Hell, I disliked half of the roster to begin with. So many good characters out there that I would have wanted before Jenny, Task, Nemesis, Trish, MODOK and a few others.

Shuma and Jill aren't banned from competitive play. I know there was some discussion over when they were de-listed but as of right now Jill/Shuma are EVO legal.

Ah, just wanted to make sure. I know that one of Shuma's assists can be pretty useful.

Salt aside, we should at least have everything on one disc as far as UMvC3 goes if Capcom were to renew the license.

I still think Ultimate MvC3 is probably my favorite fighting game roster of all time. The game and its promotional material do so much to paint them as a unified cast, little touches like the unique intro dialogues and calling each others' names when tagging in and out make everyone feel like they fit in perfectly (the fantastic art direction contributes a lot to this as well). That's not to mention the diversity of the characters themselves, with Phoenix Wright and Frank West having possibly the two most unique fighting game mechanics of all time.

Good God I love that game.

I know exactly how you feel, man. All things considered, UMvC3 aged pretty well visually. And I still get a kick out of the interactions between the characters.

That game in motion is definitely a thing of beauty.

Except Ryu. Ryu definitely does not look like Ryu in that game. Hulk and Frank are also a tiny bit dumb looking.

Also, Spider-Man's eyes are a bit too sharp for my liking. I would have preferred it to be a bit more rounded, or at least how it was in the CGI trailers.

Yeah other than those few characters the team did a remarkable job bringing everyone to life imo.

Keep in mind this was the first leap to 3D models for Phoenix Wright, Strider, Haggar, Felicia and Hsien-Ko, and a ton of the Marvel characters who hadn't appeared in other media like Dormammu, Shuma and Rocket Racoon (most of these characters hadn't even had voice actors before). Bringing so many iconic characters to the third dimension for the first time was a tall order and they knocked it out of the park.

Actually, Rocket's voice actor was already cast for Avengers: EMH when UMvC3 was in development. Same case for Iron Fist & Hawkeye (though Hawkeye was already a series regular at the time).

I feel the same way. While I have my moments where I get bodied pretty bad, I still love everything this game is about. It's just a very unique game. I don't even need to play others to have fun with it. More times than not, I find fun going into training mode with a random team (ex Ryu, Nemesis, Dante) and creating synergy through assists, situational alpha counters, and combos of course. I'll even challenge myself to do a certain amount of damage with the team.

I've played pretty much every game that's come out after Ultimate, yet I still find myself going back just to feel the game. I'll always love it.

Yeah I knew most of the Marvel dudes had already been established, I mostly meant the Capcom side (it's pretty sweet that the voice for Phoenix Wright in this game became his voice in his own series afterward).

But I do think it's awesome that they had so much consistency with the voices from the cartoons and other media at the time.

Amen man, I'm trying to take SFV really seriously but I can't help but go back and try some random fun stuff in Marvel a couple times a month.

In my opinion, all things considered, Tatsunoko vs Capcom aged much better

This new Marvel Game management is looking really good.

MvC2 is among some of the most iconic fighting games in all of videogame culture, not capitalizing on this would be a mistake.

There are very few things in this world that made me as hype as god damn DANTE and DEADPOOL having a sword fight into a shoot out in a bar. What a perfect pairing. The smirks on them both when they starting pumping each other with lead!

Too bad we never got an animated intro for UMVC3. Would've loved to see the Vergil and Wolverine showdown.

all of the amazing voice talent they got for marvel 3 was nothing short of a miracle

that game was such a labor of love. Marvel 4 has a lot to live up to.
That's if Marvel 4 happens anytime soon, or at all.

That said, I feel like they'll pull most of their voice actors from the recent cartoons, much like (U)MvC3 did at the time. Though they may run into issues concerning the voice actor in question not fitting that particular rendition of the character (Drake Bell for example, who wouldn't really fit as an adult Spider-Man, though they could just get Josh Keaton back or Yuri Lowenthal to bypass this issue). Likewise, Marvel & Capcom might run into a potential issue with an overlap in voice actors between both sides. For example, Laura Bailey voices both Black Widow & Chun-Li, Roger Craig Smith voices both Captain America & Chris Redfield in a similar manner, & Troy Baker voices Hawkeye & Nova with a similar tone. While Laura Bailey could get away with her potential double-casting, RCS's Cap sounds too close to his Chris (same for Troy's Nova & Hawkeye, though his Loki is different enough from the other 2 to where he'll be fine). Likewise, we'd have certain voice performance changes, such as Rocket losing his British Cockney accent to reflect the MCU (he's now voiced by Trevor Devall (who you might know as Chang from Black Lagoon). Of course, they could just re-hire the UMvC3 voice actors for the Marvel side to bypass the issue entirely, but then you run into issues on if Black Widow should use her EMH VA or her Avengers Assemble VA (since Vanessa Marshall, her EMH VA, now does Gamora).

I'd be happy with them dropping the Capcom characters entirely in favour of a super sized Marvel roster. Could get most characters from the films in!

speaking of VAs i am still amazed that they got richard greico to reprise ghost rider
that dude is fucking immaculate as ghost rider, seriously

To this day, I'm still amazed that Marvel went out of their way to get him back.

Also, Jay Ong, if you're reading this & if MvC4 is anywhere in negotiations, please get Josh Keaton back as Spider-Man. He's just too good at the role to drop for the next MvC game.

God 3 came at such a perfect time. Since 2000 we saw so many new Capcom franchises, so much change on the Marvel side. Seeing this classic franchise revitalized with characters as bold and popular as Dante and Deadpool was mindblowing.

That's almost a concern of mine for a potential 4. The MCU has made a lot of Marvel picks more viable for the game, but I don't think Capcom really has anything that could match the ridiculous hype of their newcomers for 3. There's Asura, they could go back and do Gene from God Hand, aaaaaand... ???

I dunno, 3 was just such an unexpected and daring game. I guess we're probably not going to be able to get that kind of "10 more years!!" hype back, especially if the X-Men/F4 nonsense is still going on.

Yeah, this would be the biggest dilemma I think. Honestly I think the only problem is RCS's Cap and Chris sounding so much alike.

To this day, I'm still amazed that Marvel went out of their way to get him back.

Yeah, I'm amazed they reached that far back. I wonder if they would've gotten Tony Jay for Galactus if he was still alive.

Yeah, same for Troy Baker's Hawkeye & Nova. I mean, the two ways this could be bypassed are either getting Brian Bloom & Chris Cox to voice Cap & Hawkeye respectively or use Leon instead of Chris.

I wouldn't be too sure. Of course, the ban is gonna string for a while. But in due time, the hype will rise if MvC4 happens.
