Still weird to see that american sites dont list Forza Horizon 3 alot and non US sites do.
Could be wrong tho.
A lot of boring ass games on that list.
lolExplains why DOOM is number 1, you always remember your first.
Pretty darn close to Giant Bombs.

soemtimes i feel like polygon likes playstation stuff just a little less
Firewatch will be looked back on as one of the most overrated games of 2016
Polygon continuing to shit on Naughty Dog. Good on them.

Surprised TLG made their list, I think they gave it 7.5
Oh well - strong list, but it's actually hard to go wrong this year. 2016 was just all around pretty fucking great...
...
for games![]()
Was expecting Virginia at #1 honestly. Their GotY 2015 was Her Story.
What did they give UC4? oh a 9 more than everything else on that list aside from inside..huh
Haha no, that would be Uncharted 4. Firewatch is fantastic and feels fresh and original. Uncharted is good but worn out and recycled. Uncharted GOTY picks 113, Firewatch 1 :I
I really liked their article on Firewatch, I felt a similar way http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/5/14129570/firewatch-games-of-the-year-2016
They gave Virginia a 9well her story was great and virginia sucked
Racing isn't really as big in the US as it used to be
Publications not including a game in their top ten list does not mean they didn't like it, people. Stop trying to force an agenda on a subjective list - it makes you look petty.
What a hipster list.

Firewatch is really overrated. A game with heavy emphasis on story that has a terrible story.
It has great dialogues and that's it, i guess?
Inside is special in that it tells a dialogue-less story of a dystopic world through mechanics really well and does incredible world building as little by little of the eccentricities are teased then capitalised on (such as the hairy swimming boys). It's a melancholic tale about the good and bad of hunanity told mainly through incredibly expressive animations. The variety helps a lot, as you're never doing the same thing for too long. Also has a brutal unforgettable ending.Wow, that's hilarious. I've completely disagreed with polygon reviews for years (well, I guess specifically Arthur Gies, but also others) and I don't even bother reading review scores there any longer due to how disconnected they are from my own preferences. I would have never, ever thought they'd be the only major outlet to choose my personal GOTY as #1. The fact that the following #2 is Inside, a title that I put firmly in my "I must be completely out of touch with the gaming world because I don't see anything special here" category is even better. What a weirdddddd list.
Edit: lol, yeah, not to mention that Polygon spawned the infamous "what do you mean move and aim?" video that I've watched dozens of times
The only game on that list that's worth a damn to me is The Last Guardian.
That's not how this works, in any way.Great collection but there is no way Firewatch is a better game than The Witness, Stardew Valley or Titanfall 2. But I was fully expecting that game to place highly with Polygon.
What does that even mean? That's like saying something is more point-n-click than game or something.Firewatch will be looked back on as one of the most overrated games of 2016. The voice acting is nice but it's more walking simulator than game and the story is extremely disappointing when it should be its biggest strength.
I still don't understand the love for Superhot. It's a really cool premise that completely falls apart after about 10 minutes. Got boring real quick, at least for me.
