Polygon's marathon Xbox One live stream

Is it actually realistic to ask the wife to watch tv while you play on the same screen?

Remote play seems like the more... acceptable thing to do there.

Who uses a controller for watching movies anyways? Once the remote comes out you'll never use the controller again for movies.

a) its not out yet
b) I bought the stupid ps3 remote and never used it, the last thing I need is more crap, just make the device that comes with it work right.
c) why are you trying to argue with me that it is not annoying? its annoying me.

This guy said

"nba live sounds cool"

please stop.

This is the second time someone said nba live was ok.

"Why buy a PS4 when I can buy a PS3 and get PS+ with 8 years worth of games"

He thinks PS+ games stay downloadable forever which isn't how it works.

That's not how it works. You get an instant game collection (around 17 games) of the current offering, not what was previously offered.

Is it really that hard to position the controller light into the side of a couch or facing a wall?

Unless we hold the controllers while watching movies now

Do you have one? Jesus fuck.

You can't jam it in the couch because that would hit all the triggers and skip shit. Even pointed away from you the thing is way to fucking bright in a dark room.

Sorry I agreed with one thing on the polygon stream, but they are right, the DS4 is annoying when watching movies.

You can cover the light with duct tape.

I've really enjoyed watching these guys so far. But apparently I'm supposed to hate them and pick apart every single thing they say.

Just turn off the controller while watching a movie. It's not hard.

the guy that just said black flag looks the same on ps4 as it does on last gen doesnt deserve to be paid to be a game journalist

thats a completely false statement, having played both ps3 and ps4, ps4 looks tons better

the only thing that looks still kind of current gen is the character models heads / faces

They've sort of managed to swallow the idea that the PS4 is the more powerful console. I do wish they would stop implying that this purely leads to resolution differences. Resolution, frame rate, effects, IQ - they all stand to improve on the PS4. This isn't just a "if you're a 'resolution guy'" as just said by one of them.

"PS4 is a minor jump technologically" from the guy on the left...

To be fair, when they openly try to describe PS+ and pretty much spread incorrect information, its hard to take them seriously about their job.

The scrutiny comes from them having a history of this. I'm sure there are people part of Polygon staff that do an exceptional job. Sadly they get lumped into crusade as well.

Typical Polygon dishonesty.

Can't watch tv during updates it seems. I guess not that big of deal since they do OS updates once in a blue but i wonder if that means game updates as well.

The guy on the left said that the PS4 was only marginally more powerful then a PS3?

The argument he was trying to make, in essence, was that the PS4 was just a 'more powerful console', whereas thanks to the Xbox One's multimedia functionality, it had made a bigger leap.

This is facepalm-a-minute but fairly addictive.

I just clicked on the stream and was told I could buy an Xbox 360 and a PS3 together for less than the cost of a PS4.

Then I closed the stream right after they told me I could spend $400 on steam holiday sales.

I don't want to use my TV remote. I have a Logitech Harmony One that controls my entire setup seamlessly (yes, even the IR-less PS3).

Using some extra TV remote is bullshit. Not including IR in PS4 (or PS3) and also making the Bluetooth protocol used for remotes different from PS3/non-existent is bullshit.

That said, it is possible they'll patch in the latter, if there is enough of an outcry, or Logitech might add support for PS4's Bluetooth.

an oversight is lying now? hdmi cec is janky and a poor alternative to native remote support. I have it disabled on my tv and receiver (both pioneer) because it's a pain in the ass. that said, the remote issue is not a big deal and polygon said as much at the start of this stream -- only one of the guys cared about it and they mocked him for it. I have the remote that came w/ launch 360s and I never use it because the controller is better

Doesn't look janky in that video.

Chris Grant is also the guy who said to wait on buying a PS4 because the price would drop soon. Dishonest to the core, and he's the guy in charge.

You do realize you can have your Harmony send TV remote signals while in the PS4 activity right? I have no issue controlling my PS4 with a Harmony right now.

hdmi cec is janky, not saying it doesn't work well with ps3/ps4. I haven't tried it on ps4 because like I said, I have it disabled. It has a lot of quirks in general though. That said, from the other thread it doesn't currently work in Netflix or other apps on ps4 anyway so its a moot point

I find it hard to believe these guys get paid to do this. This is my hobby and I'm fairly confident I could do a better impromptu round table with my friends.

Hi, we're a gaming site talking about the new gaming consoles all day. If you like games too, don't buy these new gaming consoles yet.

Yeah, but I already bought both those systems 6 years ago.

Haha. I didn't even consider that angle. Who the hell were they even addressing with that?

Yeah, but I already bought both those systems 6 years ago.

I see what you mean, but I think it still a pretty valid idea for people who hop in late or only owned one console for most of the gen. The PS4 and One have a bright future ahead, but I do think that if you haven't already, then a cheap PS3/360 might be a better value. Which is what I hope they meant at least.

...you win this round.

I feel stupid for not having made that simple logical connection.

I guess the only question mark, for me, is whether it works well, and whether I have the needed other components to make it work. My components like the receiver and TV are nice but from ~2006-2008.
