Polygon's marathon Xbox One live stream

You might think you 'won' that one, you didn't.

LMFAO!!!

"You haven't seen the last of me, He-Man!"

I like the point someone made (may have been Brian), that you need to judge the voice control as a controller. So when you hit A on the controller, the console responds immediately. No ifs or buts. Is voice control up to that same standard? No, it clearly isn't. So to my mind, what use is voice control until it achieves parity with a controller? Why would I want it when its nowhere near good enough?

I don't really like the whole motion control fad, but I get it. Its not for me, but I get why others like it. Some people feel its more fun to direct the action with more of your body than just your fingertips. Others feel the control pad is intimidating and motion controls simplify things. All of that is fine, but its not for me. Voice control however, I was hoping to be convinced on. Thats why I was watching this stream. I was doubtful, but hoping to be proved wrong. Nothing I've seen tonight has changed my view however - this is a control method that simply isn't up to scratch. Its spotty at best - irritating at worst. Shouting odd phrases at your console, repeating them over and over until you hope it accepts them or you stumble across the correct phrase. Thats not good enough, and it doesn't justify any additional cost. Take it back to the drawing board and don't come back until you've got something that works as an alternative to the control methods we have right now. Stop pushing half assed bullshit on people, trying to convince them you've come up with the future. You've come up with an excuse to extract value from customers, nothing more.

Polygons being rather harsh on the games.

And as stated above, its Geis that people dislike, not really Polygon as much.

Forza: After watching them play, sucking, not knowing what they were doing, saying the impulse triggers felt like electricity then watching the video review right after on the stream where I'm pretty sure one of the guys that was playing was dubbing it over magically knowing everything about the game... he definitely was reading a pre-written script that was supplied.

Bill Burr said he reads pre-written scripts on his podcast, so that's not a new thing in marketing practice. Hearing him getting pissed about words being put in his mouth was funny.

People commenting, "Dey can't even get the voice commands right, so dumb!", do you guys realize that the average consumer is going to have an even worse time with this? Some of the commands are completely ass-backwards and there seems to be no single theme or unified, sensible keyword library that the thing will respond to.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall in the house of Joe Sixpack, hooking up his Xbone to watch some NFL and ending up smashing the thing because it simply doesn't respond to what the fuck you're saying unless you memorize certain speech patterns and specific out-of-the-blue keywords that seem completely arbitrary.

If this is one of the "Pillars of the XBox ecosystem", then they fucked up. Fucked up big, because the UI seems to be a complete chore to navigate without voice.

Joe Sixpack is brilliant, haha.

Well not jr to you, i'm 8 years older "b".

Gaf isn't the only gaming site that you use that name, and there happens to be another name/ e-mail addy i stumbled upon that puts quite a good deal about you in perspective.

You may want to do the shutting the eff up and learn how not to leave such an obvious digital footprint along with your one note defense of polygon, it makes things to easy.

Fuck outta here. Now I'm a lackey for Polygon? And I suppose this would also mean that I'm a soldier in their Xbox crusade? BWA-MOTHERFUCKIN-HAHAHA. So instead of engaging with what I've said, you attempt to discredit me by performing some cursory search on google? Clowns like you are so lame. You'd think if I had something to hide, I would use another handle. Maybe? Yeah? Maybe?

If you'd done your due diligence you might have also noticed that when I speak of Polygon (even on other sites), it is almost exclusively in relation to GAF. Conveniently left that out, did we? And since I'm doing your job for you now, detective, might I point to the thread I started months ago that more broadly frames my feelings on this. It has shit to do with any particular publication.

This game looks way worse than anything I've seen so far between the two consoles. Hilarious how some will give Knack a 4 or 5 out of 10 and then give this higher...

This is Bad, real bad, Michael Jackson

Point out where i said you were a lackey for polygon?..

I'm not going to hold my breath, because that would be suicide.

You're incredibly easy to find, despite what you thought, It would have been more fun if you were a lackey on thier payroll, Thanks for the meltdown though.

Now I know why they bundled Kinect into the XB1, it seems that the entire UI is built around voice functions which kind of makes me sad because I really want a Kinect-less XB1 but now I know the UI will be quite clunky without it. Even with the Kinect, it seems to not work that great, and so far on this stream, I havent seen a game that really makes use of the Kinect. Seriously, what was MS thinking?

Edit: And as I say this, their live demo of Kinect fails again.

"I love how you can instantly switch from one game to another...for some reason that really speaks to me"

Cure Xbox fucking up the voice recognition and launching bing

Please move on from this shit game. Honestly this game is so bad. It's 20 dollars with micro-transactions. Why?

It seems like they enjoy the ideas of the XB1, more than the actual XB1.

Lol this game has Micro Transactions? Please tell me you're kidding.

What? Gies wasn't the one playing the game - that's Paul Miller. Gies did the review. Miller and Plante were on the couch.

And Miller was saying that they must be playing on the most basic mode because he should be slipping more with how poorly he was driving.

The first few pages of this thread, holy crap...

I feel like I stumbled into a PoliGAF thread during a Mitt Romney speech or something. You guys just live to tear these dudes apart, ha.

That's not the point of a review...

And this is the problem with standards of gaming press. I notice clinging to ideas and possiblities rather than seeing what the product offers at the current time factually.

It allows reviews to come off murky and unclear in spreading a message.

Why is it that guys in the games press are bitter and cynical and seem miserable, while Youtube streamers seem to genuinely love games and are really happy and funny.

It's the responsibility of the press to be take an adversarial role and be critical of the industry they cover.
