Killer Burger with that peanut butter burger.

Crazy, came in here to post that I finally had Killer Burger today at lunch, and of course I had to get the Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon burger. I disagree Dart, I found the peanut butter to be perfect with the rest, not too overpowering at all. Maybe you had had more on yours though, but I found it pretty subtle.

I also found it effing delicious. Friend I went with had the "Jose Mendoza" (Roasted Green Chilies and Jack Cheese, Bacon, Smokey House Sauce, Grilled Onion, & Pickle) and loved his as well.

Yeah, the peanut butter was literally falling from my burger and dripping onto my fries. It wasn't BAD, it just was... A bit too overpowering. It needed more pickles or something to cut into the richness of the burger and the peanut butter.

More pickles is not what the pb burger needs. Less pickles. None pickles.

Sorry if I missed it, but does anyone have a go-to Chinese place, preferably in NE? Lucky House is ok.

in NE, there's Zien Hong on Sandy. Super-reliable. Not the GREATEST Chinese, but probably the best on NE. Almost right across the street is Du's Grill, which is also damned tasty.

All the best Chinese is in SE, usually east of 60th.

Whaaaaat. It needs SOMETHING to cut through how rich it is.

As far as chinese, Szechuan Chef on MacAdam is pretty good.

I mean, I can drive. What've you got, Bobby?

People swear by Lucky Strike. I think it's pretty damned good, but the best Chinese in Portland, for my money is:

OM Seafood on Powell
Shen Zhen on 82nd (Shit, I guess this is technically NE, it's basically Glisan & 82nd)
Gold Garden on 122nd (near Division)

And then Zien Hong, Thien Hong (on Sandy) and Du Grill.

I have a soft spot for Rainbow Dragon (128th & Stark). It's maybe 2 steps above Safeway Chinese, but there's something about it.

Right on man, thanks. I've been meaning to try out Shandong on Broadway too, seems really divisive.

I think the problem with Shandong is that it's... sorta in a weird place with what they wanna do. It's good food for sure, but at the same time they are in this weird middle ground with trying to be Americanized Chinese food and trying to be authentic. Plus, their portions are kinda small imo, when you're trying to share. I like it, and I would encourage you to try it but still.

Lucky Strike is good too, but it's far more authentic. If you wanna have Americanized Chinese I would really suggest that place on Macadam that I talked about. Huge portions, reasonable prices. Yummy too. I haven't tried Zien Hong, but I have been meaning to.

I've been told the only Chinese worth a crap is over by 82nd. Which is sad. All this food everywhere and yet no good cheap ol' regular Chinese.

What's sad is that this city is generations-deep into the bullshit concept that anything east of 60th is basically Siberia.

The provincialism of this city is fucking amazing.

Portland acts like anything 15min in any direction from downtown is like driving to North Dakota.

Drives me straight batshit. I guess living in Siberia myself though, I don't have a right to an opinion.

I have been past Om Seafood probably 100 times since living here, never once did I think it was anything more than a fish market. o_O Now I may have to stop by there instead of Ichidai next time I head over that way.

Is egg foo young considered Americanized Chinese food? I've been wanting some of that for years since a favorite place of mine down in Eugene shut down about eight years ago back when I still lived there.

And any suggestions on the western side? I'm out in Beaverton area so driving east of 60th, for me, is a bit like driving to Siberia. I make irregular trips out to that side but don't usually go deeper than 20th or so. I used to live out 146th and Stark so I don't completely dodge it, I'd just rather find something on my side to cut down on travel and gas.

Edit: Just noticed the suggestion for Szechuan Chef on the west side. Their menu is giant and I can't say for certain if they have egg foo young because only the descriptions are in English? My search continues! Though there's been no real search. I rarely go to Chinese but I do tend to check for egg foo young on the rare occasions I go.

If you want Dim Sum...

Wong's King Seafood Restaurant

Fair warning, the wait is long.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Driving out to 82nd is fine, but anything past 82nd on bike is a trek unless you are out for a real ride.

But I am also someone who once walked/stumbled home from 72nd and Powell to NW 18th and Burnside because I didn't want to wait for a cab.

Anyone here roll through Red Castle Games?
I go there sometimes. I live in NE, though, and don't like to go south of Hawthorne or east of 50th if I can avoid it (don't hate, Roberts). So, I usually go to Guardian Games.

Guardian Games is probably the best spot in the city for that stuff, anyway.

I used to ride my bike from 117th & Burnside to PSU to do my Podcast (Don't laugh, EVERYONE in Portland has a podcast :) and I could typically get there in about 30-35 minutes. Was fun during the spring/summer. Sucked like crazy in the fall/winter. Did that for about 3 years. Then my bike broke, and then I moved to Concordia neighborhood.

Only got hit once though!

Chinese Delicacy makes delicious dumplings.
Frank's Noodle House is also really good, except the salt and pepper squid tastes off. Not in a bad way, but I wouldn't order it again.

I always end up getting the noodles and korean bbq. Both are just soooo good.

Anyone else significantly more excited for Real World Portland than they have any right to be?

It's been a long time since its been even remotely good but getting to see places I recognize is always exciting. Plus, Real World Las Vegas has been on all weekend so I've been reminded how great it can be.

What? Why did they take it out? Sold the building/space?

EDIT: I am sure it will pop up again somewhere. This was the fourth location since 1985.

Right, at least at that location it's gone. For now. Who knows.

Also, it feels like the OP is missing a ton of shit... Just off the top of my head...

Radio Room, Bye and Bye, Inteurban, Bar Bar, Old Gold, Prost, Radar, The Parish, Low Brow, Holocene

There's more, far more.

Write each place a snippet and send it to Devo.

Should definitely add Fire on the Mountain. I love wings with an incredible burning passion that is only eclipsed by my love of my own Mac N Cheese. Fire on the Mountain is the best wing joint I've ever been too.

The fact that they have yummy beer and fun menu oddities just seals the deal. The Fried Pickles with Chipotle Mayo are noteworthy.

K, just gotta mention the crazy, inSANE weather this weekend. I'm even overheating! I got some fab walks in, definitely a good dose of vitamin D before summer actually comes around. Anyone else have a great time?

I went to a track near my house the other day to do some sprints and it felt like I popped a molly before I even started running. Weather is very nice.

Oh, and the Spare Room on NE 42nd has amazing karaoke M-W nights.

Yup, I randomly ran into five people I haven't seen in years today. That's what happens when Portland gets a little sunshine.

Have you tried their banana ketchup? I keep hearing about it but haven't had a chance to check it out.

Need to know about Kenny & Zuke's pastrami fries. They look delicious in photos but are they really? I had some carne asada fries from Muchas Gracias and those were great, wanted to try something else in the same vein.

Hey Guys I'm headed out from Milwaukee to Portland as we speak for a job interview. They are keeping me and my girlfriend at a hotel downtown. Anyone have easy recommendations to eat, do, and see whole we're here for a couple days? We're looking at places to live to so vibrant neighborhoods would be much appreciated.

I will have a rental car so I can get around.

Wings are my favorite food, so I should hit this place up?

You asked similar questions a few pages ago, no? I think there were some tips on areas to explore in terms of where to live. East of the river, close(ish) in is the area I'd drive around.

I've got neighborhoods to live yea, but not ones to just check out because they are of interest.
