Possible Kojima Productions Reveal in Three Days?

Solo said:
Ill be so pissed if this fuss is over nothing but a handheld game. Give us a PS3 game too, Kojima. Preferably a reboot/whatever you want to call it, as many have said. Blow this shit up and start fresh.

If what IGN got out of that Famitsu interview is true (that the game would be out not too long from now) then it's almost certainly a PSP game.

Same here. PO and MGS4 don't exist.

Actually, when I'm playing MGS1, I prefer to ignore even MGS3. As much as I like MGS3, I feel that the mere existence of The Boss' character ruins a lot of MGS1's potrayal of Big Boss.

but the boss explains why big boss did what he did.

If this is the game that Kojima is countdown then, then this will be unlike pretty much any other PSP game. Generally whenever there's a major franchise on the PSP it isn't handled by the team that normally makes those games. SSM didn't made GoW, Naugthy Dog didn't make Daxter, Insomniac didn't make Ratchet, and Kojima wasn't behind MPO (although it was still a KojiPro game). So, if this is his game then it's going to get a pretty hefty budget and will certainly be quite a bit different from what MPO was.
The intro alone will have a bigger budget than any Tamagotchi ever made!

The story of MGS4 was exactly what it should have been.. which is the problem. Some things are just better left unsaid.

When MGS3 was confirmed to be set in the 60s there was an outcry about what happenz after MGS2 and now people got their answers.. of course the answers were obvious and should have been known all along so MGS4 felt like one long hand-hold.

i just dont think you go through all this just for a psp game and especially not if it is anything over then PO2.

Nobody wants any explanations, apparently.

While I enjoyed MGS3 and the setup for Big Boss' fall, it wasn't entirely necessary to do. Not everyone needs to be a tragic hero in this.

SMZC said:
I hate to say it, but that's just... not gonna happen.

I know :(
We'll get MGS5 and more pissing on the series ashes before we'd ever get a KP developed (get that Twin Snakes shit outta here) reboot/relaunch, sadly.

Just because we understand his backstory and motivations, doesn't make Big Boss a tragic hero. Same goes for Ocelot.

They aren't heroes at all. People tend to forget that these two were striving for anarchy, where soldiers can run amok.

I'm still a believer that this will be a reboot.. it's the only thing that makes any sense to me at this point. I think Kojima's just re-using character designs for familiarities sake but that this is an alternate universe.

I just refuse to believe that Kojima was so passionate about making ANOTHER story about Big Boss and returning Raiden to emo ninja that he hade to make another MGS game set in the same universe.

Maybe that's wishful thinking, but whatever.

Kowak said:

People have been saying all through this game that Kojima likes to throw curveballs. Most people have thought that it was going to be a console game, so wouldn't the ultimate curveball be that it's actually a PSP game?

Kowak said:

I love that part of the story, but I hate how The Boss is, essentially, everything that MGS1 made us believe that Big Boss was. It deprives Big Boss of A LOT of the character's uniqueness.

It's something that Kojima resorts to a lot. And I hate it. For instance, you have the Philosophers, and then you have the Patriots, a nearly identical organization. After MGS3 and The Boss, Gene took care of ruining the little uniqueness that Big Boss had left with his Army's Heaven bullshit (Kojima even made it so that he gave Big Boss the funds so he could later on build his Outer Heaven, for crying out loud). Ocelot learning from Volgin how to torture people with electricity as he later on does in MGS1. Etc...

Kojima just doesn't know how to explain the origins of his characters and plotlines without ruining their uniquess by resorting to this kind of crap.

WOW you predicted that it was zero that was behind the patriots and that ocelot was actually trying to bring down the patriots.

You are amazing.

Ultimate curveball would have Jehuty in place of cyborgninja at the end out of the countdown. :(

Sense left the MGS equation a long time ago, though.

Maybe that's true.. but MGS4 and the MGS database were such a nail in the coffin to me that I can't see there being stories that they're passionate about making with those same characters again. Everything about MGS4 was just so final.. too final.

The end of Portable Ops said he had the same codename as Null..

Major Zero = Null = 0

WHOA BIG SHOCKER

Ocelot trying to take down the Patriots after being a member himself is just a rehash of Big Boss.

No one was predicting that. You know why not? Because not even in our best attempts at mining the depths for the dumbest possible ideas for MGS4 did we conceive that the codec people from MGS3 would be the big bads.

The password is "Who are the Patriots?" and "La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo."

you know what's the best possible metaphor for this series?

Exactly. I think most people were predicting (I know I was) that Zero was the mastermind behind the Patriots.

You were saying they were obvious all along, they were not, I never followed PO plus nothing is obvious in MGS.

MGS4 explained everything and wraped it all up nicely and was the perfect ending IMO

Yes it was, but if you remember not that much happened on the site.

"Oh shit it's a green power button, it MUST be MGS4 for the 360!"

I can't believe Kojima is wasting his time on an all-new game instead of a trophy patch for MGS4.

Kinda bummed its not a PS3 game.

Yeah, the corniest wedding ever plus two old geezers offing another old geezer vegetable in a wheelchair truly is the perfect ending.

I could literally taste the shit I was swallowing.

I was talking about the perfect ending for the whole of the series as opposed to certain events in the final scenes.

I liked the wedding scene as it was representing a fresh new start with people able to get on and enjoy their lives(until snake goes all crazy leading up to mgs5), it wasnt for every one but it didnt ruin anything and it says more about people who were not able to enjoy it.

Plus you cant wrap it all up without big boss killing zero.(plus as someone said earlier i would love for their to be a dlc with BB looking for Zero)

exactly, not much effort was put into that, but this has required careful planning and the scale of it is just to big to be just a psp game, despite the fact it would be a curveball

I was going to say. The dead guy killing the brain dead guy didn't have an impact on me.

Its probably something that makes more sense in Japanese or military culture. Zero basically committed treason against his country and betrayed his friends, he had to die. Big Boss accepted the same fate.

Am I the only one that was pissed at the fact that we didn't really get to see JD, talk to it (like in MGS2) or even see it being destroyed? I mean, the Patriots as we knew them in MGS2 WERE JD and the other AIs, not any of these Zero bullshit that PO and MGS4 introduced. We get to see how Zero gets killed, but when it comes to JD, it's just like "hey man, we've introduced the virus to destroy Liquid's GW; oh, and guess what? all of the Patriot's network has been destroyed too lololololololol". Ugh.

Indeed. One of the many reasons I love MGS2 is for how sheer fucking nuts it is. Talking to AI Campbell is one of my favorite moments in gaming, ever.

mmm the origins of the Patriots were not AI, the conversation at the ending talks about the Wiseman's Committee

Well make up your mind, do you want to see and know everything, or do you want things to be left mysterious?

You can leave some things mysterious while still addressing others. I'd rather if it had been the other way around, not explaining the origins of the Patriots while still letting me confront their current incarnation (as AI).

Another request if we do get a PS3 game - can we finally get rid of David Hayter? Dude rocked in MGS1, but has gotten progressively worse each game.

Without seeing the death of zero you dont have closure.

Yeah, i was fucking pissed, thought i had a shitty version of the game and i was struggling to think of what to do, in the end decided to listern to Campbell and switch of my console thinking it was like the switch the controller when playing mantis in mgs1

how about give us japanese VO option.. christ.. as if the story isnt anime enough anyway.

There are probably more people who loved MGS3 and loved Hayter's performance in it. I don't even try to judge his MGS4 voice because he was playing a near death Snake and was supposed to sound messed up.

but then what, you destroy AI and are then left with the possibility of the patriots just starting some new shit up. As long as zero is alive the patriots would always remain

His MGS4 work is definitely better than what he did in MGS3, for sure.

Same here.

Overall, the whole feeling of MGS4 is much less "technological" than MGS2. Most of the environments have an MGS3 vibe to them, instead of the semifuturistic feeling of MGS2 (which I loved). Outer Haven, for instance, seems like a regular submarine in comparison to Arsenal Gear, even though both ships are supposed to be of the same kind.

I dunno, it seems like this to me:
MGS1 - invents Snake voice, is awesome
MGS2-4 - sounds like a dude trying to mimmick the MGS1 Snake voice, often to disastrous effect

Kowak said:

Zero is already dead. He's a brain-dead old man hooked up to a half-dozen catheters. The AI is the Patriots, all the other members are dead or no longer part of the group.

Kastro said:

In this day and age of DLC it should be possible even if theres not enough disc space. I'd honestly recommend writing into the KP Report and seeing what their answer is. If they get enough requests they will be receptive. For MGS4 they really took all of the control feedback to heart and brought out something that everyone was happy with so we do know that they listen. Unfortunately Payton isn't there anymore so it remains to be seen if they'll listen to the Western audience as much.

I saw his character as being ambiguos in the end. i saw him more as near death but not brain dead and still had the capacity for thought, but maybe thats just me.

Zero does not get allowed to get off scot free for starting all this shit in the first place.

But like was already said, it's probably something that makes more sense in a Japanese context.

Well, Snake shouldn't sound the same as in MGS1 anyway, since you know, he was an old man in MGS4.

The Wisemen Committee =/= Zero and his buddies :\

Blader5489 said:

What the hell. If they are going to destroy what the Patriots currently are (the AIs, because the point of MGS4 is that Zero isn't relevant to the organization anymore) the very least they could do is show that in some way instead of simply saying "hey guys, we just happened to destroy the whole Patriots without even knowing what we were doing!". That's just sad.

JD and the rest of AIs were supposed to have a huge importance during MGS2's and MGS4's time. They were the Patriots at that time. Instead, MGS4's story focuses solely on Zero, his buddies and Big Boss' grudge against them. Obviously, this was an attempt at pleasing the MGS2 haters that disliked the whole Patriots plot from Sons of Liberty. Fuck them, and fuck you, Kojima.

Scot free? He was going to rot in a wheelchair peeing into a catheter for the rest of his life, just like he'd been doing for probably the last few decades.

I was just exhausted of the game at that point. I was (what turned out to be foolishly) waiting to take control of Snake at the end of the game but instead I was stuck with a naked Raiden and a Colonel Campbell going nuts. It did kinda freak me out when Campbell says turn off the console, but to be honest I probably was subconsciously thinking about shutting the console off. I wasn't happy because I put the game on the hardest level to make the guards slightly challenging, but when it got to the end game content (Torture, Rexes, sword fight) the game went from a good difficulty to impossible. I'll be honest and say I had to use a GameShark to finish the game. Very different than MGS3/4 where the level of difficulty was consistent through the whole game.
