Another is God of War 3. You really can't top that intro, but at least try to remain a consistent level of quality. That level with the spider boss and the garden with Hera were terrible. Also how many times do you really need to keep flying up and down that same shaft and avoiding debris?
The most interesting thing to me about this thread is the number of games that had protracted development times that still felt rushed to the audience.
Mafia 2, Gran Turismo 5, Bioshock Infinite, Watch Dogs, Wind Waker, Rage, KoF 12, FF12, Alpha Protocol...all had seriously extended (5+ year) development times.
Just goes to show that having a limitless schedule doesn't always equal a fulfilling vision.
SNK Wiki said:SNK Overseas Manager Yoshihito Koyama revealed that the game is going to be "3D mixed with 2D"; this led to speculation that the game could use cel-shading to give the game a 2D look, but it was later revealed at AOU 2008 that KOF XII will use newly-drawn 2D sprites on detailed 2D backgrounds. Producer Masaaki Kukino informed Kotaku that the game is one hundred percent hand drawn, there being zero cell shading in the game. He has also stated that the main goal of the game is to give a new "rebirth" to the series. They have no intention of changing the main series into 3D in the future. The staff decided to create the new graphics during 2005 and 2006, and commented that they spent triple the amount of time developing it than the previous game.
In an interview with Fighters Front Line, Kukino replies that each character took 16~17 months to complete with a team of 10 different designers. Additionally, the sprites were personally checked by Nona for quality. Due to the time demands of drawing such detailed frames of animation, as well as the decision not to incorporate older assets as previous games in the series have, there will be only 20 playable characters, the lowest number ever in a game from this series.
Good point, we have to realize that sometimes less content can improve a game.In that chapter specifically they clearly intended to have a bike level (a la Bayonetta), that they cut and just turned into a short scene of Raiden stealing a bike and then rolling up to the boss fight.
Knights of the Old Republic II. If Obsidian had sufficient time, that could have been one of the greatest RPG's of all time.
Mario Kart 7 and 8. Great games and well polished, but Nintendo ain't fooling me.
Alpha Protocol
Solid concept brought down by broken gameplay and bugs. Still one of my favorite games from last gen
Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 and despite it being rushed it was still a better game than A Realm Reborn will ever be.
What's worse is that it's hurt Obsidian's reputation to this day, when it was Lucasarts that wanted to boot it out the door unfinished.
It's both.Dragon Age 2? Or maybe the game was just plain bad.
Watch Dogs. It was just a mess with hastily created side missions and quite typical and short main missions.
Rome 2 comes to mind.
Buggy siege AI, unrefined User Interface, no family tree, underdeveloped political system... it's two steps back from Shogun II.
Battlefield 4: the Thread
The Gamecube had so many rushed games. Super Smash Bros. Melee, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and Mario Sunshine all suffered so they could push them out to retail faster.
Wow no mention of Uncharted 3?
Uncharted 3
Killzone 3
Gears of War 2
Uncharted 3
Incomplete would be a stretch but definitely felt rushed
-Talbot was mysterious but never really fleshed out or provided explanation on how certain things happened that realistically couldnt
-Endgame boss fight pretty much non existent
-Characters disappear from the first half of the game after playing a pivotal role only to never even be mentioned again (Chloe & cutter)
-Major Character only appear in the second half of the game (Elena)
-First half of the game is front loaded with puzzles and second half back loaded with shootouts. Not enough of a healthy mix of the two throughout the game
-Major setpieces and events that dont serve to actually move the plot forward
I agree 100%. Didn't they even say they knew they couldn't top the second game?
Uncharted 3. It was so rushed the aiming was literally broken, and it was missing a graphical effect that got added back almost a month later.
