Is there a series that's older than Final Fantasy that is still going on high end PCs or HD consoles?

The first Might & Magic game was released in 1986.

If you're not too strict with the definition of "high end PC" you can also count Ultima (via Ultima Online) and Rogue.

If you're also not too strict with the definition of "HD console" you can add Pac-Man (Championship Edition on Xbox Live).

The old games are kinda cheating with being in hi-res and all though.

I'm glad you used an MGS1 for PS1 pic. I was about to remake that MGS one cause the first one had The Twin Snakes one. Just shows how much of a graphical hop was taken from MGS1 to MGS2. Honestly, this series is so badass with its graphical evolution. Someone should just post MGSO as well. I swear, after playing that and then replaying MGS3, MGS3 looked even better than the first time.

Climax was indeed overlooked. Really amazing rendition that blended all kinds of F-Zero stuff (visuals, systems, characters) without becoming generic or offensive. I was shocked at how well they pulled off the Lightning stages from AX/GX. It's a damn sin that Nintendo didn't bring it out in the US (or Europe?).

DMC3 looks really rough in stills.
I always thought DMC1 was the better looking game though, especially when it comes to art direction.

Also, I agree with you about the art direction. From a design perspective, DMC1 is the greatest of the series by far. Marionettes are still my favorite standard enemy type from any action series, and the macabre atmosphere of Mallet Island, particularly inside the castle during the early missions, is unrivaled by many modern titles

I'd say Silent Hill is more of a standout in that regard. Silent Hill 3 is well above its sequels, even the sequel on HD consoles.

I dunno about that. SHH actually has pretty solid art direction overall and looks surprisingly good while playing. The area where it falls the hardest is in its cutscenes, which do look worse than SH3.

Climax has the best music of all the saga. GX is an incredible game but has the worst music (saving some themes) of all the games. Sega, take out your fucking techno from my rock f-zero.
