Here's how my setup looks now:

Computer and 360. Bose Companion 5 speakers have worked out great for this setup. I'm thinking about getting a wide screen monitor for the 360 and have 2 19" monitors for my computer. Just gotta find a good deal. I'll post my PS3 setup later.

The PS3 can bitstream Master DTS but not Dolby True HD for some reason even though the PS3 is supposedly HDMI 1.3. HDMI 1.3 supports bitstreaming of both these codecs so I don't understand why Sony is allowed to call the version of HDMI on the PS3 1.3. It's really annoying and I'd like my receiver to do the decoding because I always have the issue of the PS3 adding static to Dolby True HD decoded tracks.
Are you sure about that? My receiver can decode TrueHD and DTS-HD MA but the PS3 does them both internally and always outputs PCM for me.

I agree about your HDMI 1.3 complaint, though. Bitstreaming HD audio codecs is really the only tangible benefit of 1.3 over previous versions that you'll see this generation, and the PS3 not supporting it makes it pretty much irrelevant. Apparently it's a limitation of the PS3's HDMI hardware, and I don't know how one that can't output bitstream can be certified HDMI 1.3. If a potential PS3 Slim updates the hardware to allow it that's one of the biggest features that'll get me to upgrade.

Nice TV. Got the same model myself for my ps3. Even Wii games through component look pretty nice on it.

A lot of you guys have some great setups with what looks to be pretty simple black leather sofas.

Is there a "go to" place to find a nice simple black leather sofa for a decent price? I'm looking to spend no more than 1200$ on a sofa & loveseat (I'll go a little higher if I find EXACTLY what I want). I'm looking for a black fabric sofa, which are rather hard to find. It seems that all black sofas are leather. Fabric or Leather are fine. Also, I don't really like firm sofas so I'm looking for a nice fluffy, soft one.

I've looked around, and I can't seem to find a single sofa like many of the ones shown in the pictures of this thread (aside from the Ikea furniture). So, if you guys could save me some trouble and point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!

Yes, I'm sure.

When I bitstream Wall-e I get this:

When I try to bitstream Akira I get a stereo audio track:

I can't tell from your pics, but are you sure the PS3 isn't just bitstreaming the core DTS track and not the DTS-HD track? A lossy, core DTS track is contained in the DTS-HD tracks, and the PS3 can bitstream vanilla DTS just fine. The PS3 cannot bitstream any of the lossless codecs.

I'm not sure actually. See, I thought that it couldn't bitstream either and stated this in another thread a while back and got yelled at. So I looked into it, took these pics and now I'm wrong again. Aaaah! Which is it?

So why's the PS3 supposedly got HDMI 1.3 if it can't bitstream any lossless codecs (except uncompressed, obviously)? Isn't this a case of false advertising?

I'm not sure, I haven't read anything definitive. My guess is that the PS3 supports some of the additional visual advantages to 1.3, but apparently not the lossless bitstreaming abilities. I think the HDMI 1.3 spec was only finalized a few months before the PS3 launched, so it's probably not fully certified.

Just set the HDMI audio settings on your PS3 to PCM and you'll always get the best sound possible in movies. For movies that have LPMC and Dolby TrueHD tracks you will need to pick the lossless sound track when the movie starts however.

I always get static from TrueHD tracks when I do that. No issue with Master DTS or Dolby Digital when I use LPCM, just TrueHD and it's not all the time but often enough to bother me.

Hey, I'm [H]ardness supreme :( It's 21 inches, just looks super small next to the 52.

I'm 100% sure I've bitstreamed both HD audio codecs

The PS3 does the decoding, so it should show up as linear PCM or something on your receiver.

Here's a dolby true hd movie with a picture of the display on my receiver pasted in

That's not bitstreaming then. Your receiver would say Dolby TrueHD, not LPCM, if it were bitstreaming. The whole point of bitstreaming is that the receiver does the decoding of the audio codec, not the PS3 or other player.

Also, I'm constantly in awe of how good Switchball looks on my TV. It doesn't even get much credit for being a visual showoff game.

Oh, I got the terms backwards.. I don't think ps3 ever claimed to be able to bitstream hd audio.

What does it matter which device does the decoding? It's lossless so shouldn't any device that decodes it come up with the same output?

The PS3's HDMI is version 1.3 according to this and part of the HDMI 1.3 standard is bitstreaming True HD and Master DTS.

It should but I have issues with static on TrueHD tracks with the PS3 and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yeah but I thought it was a known shortcoming of the ps3 since the beginning

That sucks. I have around a dozen blurays and I've netfixed dozens more with no audio trouble. Maybe your ps3 and receiver don't like eachother

When do you notice this static? I can't say I ever have. Just tested it with Kung Fu Panda which is truehd and I can't say I hear anything out of the ordinary. Also, what kind of receiver do you have? I managed to google something about static from the PS3 related to last year's yamaha receivers related to having 7.1 output selected. I have a denon 2808ci myself and only a 5.1 speaker setup.

Its my understanding that the PS3 can't bitstream HD codecs over HDMI so he has to use LPCM and his receiver display will never show them because it isn't decoding them.

Clean setup. Mainly my "party" setup, for when I have people over and we need space to accommodate everyone in the basement. I bring all my consoles down to the basement in the event we want to play X game on Y console.

I need to find myself a nice book or media shelf for those games and movies, they're starting to really get on my nerves. On top of that the mess behind the couch is pissing me off and I could use that space for something. What I don't know... Maybe put a computer back there? Wish I had planned ahead and wired the area for ethernet, hdmi and sound. Ignore the sock under the media center, I didn't notice it until after taking most of the shots. =P

At higher volumes is when you can usually hear it more, but it's not all the time and on all movies. And I have a Denon 2309CI with a 5.0 setup (I need a sub, but I don't want to spend the money because I also need a new car. Ffff)

That means you are NOT bitstreaming the codecs, the PS3 is decoding them internally and outputting LPCM. If you don't have your PS3 set to LPCM when you're connected to an HDMI receiver then YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.

Moving on now...

This my current set up in my small 1 room apartment in Japan. Simple yet functional. I don't have much space to work with so every thing is at an angle. I got a 5.1 surround set up which you probably can't see but the subwoofer and speakers are well hidden in the room.

The rest of my game/DVD collection is in storage at my parent's house probably for a long time. ;_;

Holy shit, your setup has nearly the same stuff as mine. I see Billy Bookcases in the background! I'll post the full setup in a bit, but fuck yeah at the Target media shelf. :D

I love it so damn much. ^^

Damn looking at some of these picks makes me want to remodel my room completely.... I have my HD 40 inch TV sitting on my old toy box from when I was a kid...... (still living at home just turned 19, but still thats no excuse) :lol

Once you go rack you never go back.

Wait til you guys get bored enough to put the rack in a closet and set up a nice Harmony remote with some IR repeaters.

Not sure if you've solved this problem or not, or if you've already had this suggestion but do you have the PS3's volume turned up? If so, set it to normal, the middle setting.

You guys have all niiiice setups... my setup consist in a awful pc workstation and a 19" monitor for pc... and a 26" Panasonic Viera with PS2/360/Wii hooked. And I only have 40 games between PS2/360/GC/Wii! I also have a DS and a PSP lol. I'll post the pic tomorrow :D (also all my setup is in my room lol)
