Re: the stupid "Gamergate" thing. Besides the fact that it's RWS and of course they're blatantly trying to get a rise out of people, their argument is the same as it has always been - that video nasties aren't the root cause of the misogyny and abuse - and to point out the hypocrisy of things like how Postal is in bad taste but somehow GTA gets a pass in the mainstream because it's got a billion dollar budget and a so-called "Oscar winning story". It's hammer horror. It's Slayer singing songs about fucking dead people. It's punk rock. It's the Sex Pistols swearing at Bill Grundy. It's as dumb as hell but it has every right to be.

At no point is anyone at RWS saying "go out in the real world and ruin women's lives" and the irony is that there are people that have decided without an ounce of consideration that yes, that's what they are saying, because they themselves must be bad people who hate women. It's absurd and massively hypocritical. I don't agree with them using "Gamergate" to make their point because to be honest I think "Gamergate" is complete rubbish and it's such a massive sea of crap now that it just muddies RWS's message (plus I think Adam Baldwin is a complete loon). But I can understand what they're trying to say. I might be married with kids and I'm now at a glance look like any other stereotypical middle aged suburban stereotype, but alternative culture got me through a lot of years. Still does.

The fact is that I know there are people right now reading this post that have already made their mind up that I'm a hateful monster that abuses women just for making this post and that is completely absurd (and couldn't be further from the truth). That's what the point is. The hornet's nest is the problem, not the idiot poking it with a stick. I'd rather deal with the hornet's nest. It's actually fucking mindblowing to me that some of you think the Gamergate stuff crosses a line when the Postal series is filled with blatantly obvious "harmful and abusive" stereotypes. On the first day of the expansion you go to a take out store called "Cockasian" that sells dog meat instead of chicken. And that's the tip of the iceberg. Bet some of you would defend that stuff in another game.

It's not weird... it's exactly the point. Take a look at the real world, where as we speak there are horrible people with hearts genuinely filled with hate trying to use religion as an excuse to refuse service to the LGBT community. Truth is stranger than fiction. We need to deal with the truth.

I suspect I'm going to be completely torn to shreds for this post but this is all I wanted to say about it. Now I just want to talk about the game.
 
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeit I didn't know this was already out! Loved Postal 2 so I know I'll have a blast with this, so glad the og dude is back!

I remember originally playing it on a 700MHz amd cpu and like 8MB of video memory. It ran decently I think but levels would take forever to load. I remember trying it once I finally upgraded to a dual-core and it was blazing. :P I bet my tablet could run this even better now haha.

This is cracking me up in the expansion because I always remember one of the problems with the base gaming being the load zones (no streaming here). I didn't expect to walk through one in the expansion and have it load in 2 seconds. Although my hardware is 1000x better than it was in 2003 so it makes sense haha.

Yeah, no dude, look, I get what you're saying here, but it's not some kind of topical joke or satire or anything, Running With Scissors is very open about being a pro-Gamergate dev.

Yes I read this, it doesn't change anything I said. If anything, that you're showing me this as proof of guilt kind of proves the point. Put it this way... how did you feel when people used Columbine as evidence that the violence of Doom was responsible for the ills of the world? There's a couple of brief comments on the AMA yesterday about this (which features both a female and a gay dev from RWS, no doubt on purpose). When you say they're a pro-GG dev, what you're implying isn't what they're implying. And now we're arguing semantics - so as I said earlier, we're not dealing with the hornet's nest, we're fighting about the idiot with the stick.
 
so yeah postal 2 is probably my guiltiest pleasure game of my young adult-hood (maybe soldier of fortune 2 fits in there too), really tempted to play this but I guess I'd need to rebuy the game.

I'm pretty clear on what they're implying, I just think it's stupid.

Your argument essentially boils down to the old chestnut of "why worry about someone saying 'fag' in a video game when gay people are banned in Russia!!!" which is... misguided, to say the least. Like we can't disagree with multiple things at once, or something. The point of trying to point out a rambling crazy pro-gg rant on their forums was done to present the fact to you that RWS aren't "apolitical comedians" or "just doing this to get a rise" like you claim, this is what they genuinely believe. Sacha Baron Cohen isn't actually racist and won't say racist things when he's not putting on a persona specifically designed to expose racist people. Chris Brown doesn't actually think that there's a "difference between a black person and a n*****" - and when he saw white people using that bit as a justification to call black people the n-word, he massively regretted ever saying it. Tyler, the Creator is not actually a violent person in real life despite what he raps about. Etcetera, etcetera.

Running With Scissors are pro-gamergate. I don't think this is, or should be, up for debate. This is equivalent to Cohen actually writing some kind of essay on his website saying "actually no for real you guys, fuck the middle east." There is no "intelligent point" to be made here, and even if there were, pointing out that something controversial isn't insightful, nor is it funny. This isn't even touching the rest of the things you've said, like -

Sorry, I kind of didn't want to get into this so I probably shouldn't have said anything in the first place but as irony would have it my daughter has asked me to go the park with her this morning so I can't get into it with you anyway. Long story short who I am is someone who believes differences are to be celebrated, not challenged and denied, because that's how you change the world for good. I'll try and make time later to come back and explain what I mean by that.

This is what they are saying.
Begins with intentionally murky language regurgitating and furthering Gamergate bullshit about Quinn, Grayson and Sarkeesian.
Ends with arguing that those criticizing sexism, equality and representation in games are scheming, attention seeking, drivel-spouting opportunists who should be disregarded, and tops it off with what's supposed to be a joke about these people just wanting cock.

They're inarguably doing more than just using Gamergate to make a point about causation. For all intents and purposes, they are Gamergate.
And Gamergate does not require quotes when being described as harmful and abusive. Furthering the very real harm and abuse Gamergate causes, is despicable and inexcusable.

Stereotype jokes are almost always trite and shitty. But I would argue that joke is less bad in a game like Postal 2 than it would be in, say, Ride to Hell. The thing with Postal 2 is it's blatantly aiming to be satirical, it's full of shallow, hamfisted, offensive, immature garbage like that and is not serious at all about any of it (which is why it paradoxically works in a way, it's like a theme park of shitty and/or offensive humor). Except maybe when they got defensive about their game, mocking the outrage, censorship satire. That is the one serious point I can recall that I felt they genuinely wanted to get through to people in Postal 2. And they did do that, without supporting a gross hate mob.

Should note that I haven't played Postal 2 in over a decade, maybe my memory of it isn't perfect.

Decided I can't be bothered with this. Everything about Gamergate is idiotic. Personally, I am a proud SJW. I'm just not a fucking imbecile. No sense in arguing round in circles about it. At least I know my way works in the real world. I know where the real fight is, and RWS are definitely not the enemy. Good enough for me. Sorry for the further derailing.

Now, about that Postal 2 expansion, it's pretty good huh?
 
Man, I wish Postal 2 ran better. My computer doesn't have the brute force to get over poor optimization.

I thought I was the only one, haha. The game dips to 30 constantly for me. GTA V literally runs better on my system than this. I mean, it's completely playable, just odd and inconvenient.

I think it might be my CPU (AMD Phenom II X6 1055T) - It almost always ends up being the source of my PC troubles nowadays

I just whooshed back to 2003 where I was photoshoping guns from UT2003 onto my "for-a-gun-prepared-pose-picture" self.

Postal2 brough the inner psycho in me back in the day and still propably would today.
Something about shocking until pissing self, pissing on that soul, gasoline on said soul, fire up, pissing more, shovel to head, football.

All of this preferably in small confined space like bathroom, because decoration.

That was something.
 
Also for the record, my game is perfectly playable. It just gets some really annoying slowdown.

The words "Laptop" and "AMD" pretty much sum up the issue. Im not saying AMD is bad, but AMD based laptops tend to be underachievers in general. AMD is an underachiever in general.

The reality is if you want to game on your PC (or even laptop) its a "Go Intel or Go Home" sort of deal.

Even for a game from 2003? I mean, I had less slowdown playing Bioshock Infinite...


I was considering getting an Intel laptop, but I could never find anything with a large enough screen that was within my budget. And when it comes down to it, I don't have a great interest in gaming on PC.

amd cpus are bad, at least for gaming.
 
I was having so much fun with this game until everything went grey and I can't see anything.

At least it was fun while it lasted.
