Power Rangers Movie suits revealed

The main problem is that they're just too busy looking. The 90's movie suits tried the "armored" look too and it worked better then because they kept the look simple

Apparently these suits were a major pain in the ass to work with.

Green Ranger > White Ranger

He has the cooler chest peace, cooler look, Tommy has a better character arc as the green ranger, and his Zord is basically MechaGodzilla. Plus when Zedd showed up he made it a point to single out the Green Ranger and get him out of the picture. Zedd recognized the Green Ranger as a legit threat. White Ranger was just another one of them.

Will calmly disagree (though not that Green Ranger wasn't the coolest of the original).

Tommy as the White Ranger had to learn to be the leader of the group, going from the "backup Ranger" to suddenly thrust into the role of guiding them and future members throughout four seasons of the series (partially because, you know, Jason's actor quit the show).

And the Tiger Zord had the benefit of at least having a pretty tight battle mode the Dragon Zord didn't that was far more mobile and often useful (and he actually got his hands dirty most of the time instead of controlling it with a magic flute. THIS time it was a magic talking sword.)

And the White Ranger was the only Power Ranger ever to go toe-to-toe with Lord Zedd too.

Basically goes to show that "cooler" looks, and I'm giving a lot of leeway to the word cooler here, will probably not make the stories any more compelling. And I know I'm comparing a show for children that airs at 7:30 on Sunday to a movie for children and manchildren with too much nostalgia but honestly... They just look bad.

They look like bugs more than dinosaurs and the bodies are pretty awful, but if Banks' actual on-set costume is anything to go by, we shouldn't expect them to look that great IRL either. I mean... Man of Steel got away with pretty much just the spandex with colors a bit muted.

Yeah, I'm absolutely saying that Zyuohger costumes are better suited for this type of thing. And have more personality to them as well. It's that simple. Don't fuck with people that have been doing this for 39 years. If you want modern-ish full body costume, look at MCU, look at Kamen Rider Ryuki, and come up with something thematic and new, but don't just go and mess up Zyuranger designs without understanding what made them some of the sleekest costumes in the franchise only 16 years in.

Eh. I do care about my Power Rangers and this is pretty bad.
But you know what, the terrible PR Samurai design, which is western-only, actually comes from Japan and Japanese designers. What if this does as well, that's not an impossibility. What if this is just what was asked for and what they thought would be cool for an uh... gritty, realistic Power Rangers for the West adaptation.

Good god the intentions are all wrong with this one.

To this day, I still can't decide if I prefer the White or Green Ranger iteration better. Inside my head and heart, the two versions are forever vying for top-choice.

I hope you know they basically belong to two different teams.

Go go Power Avengers!

I guess you could always argue that it doesn't NEED to be "battle armor". The Power Rangers suits have always been glorified spandex. They're gymnasts, martial artists, and acrobats, not walking battle tanks.

It's like deciding that acrobatic superheroes need "armor". They don't. Just good designs. A good Power Rangers suit redesign wouldn't look out of place among other spandex-originated heroes.

I don't care either way, spandex or armor, as long as it looks good and appears functional depending on the character/story. So many stunts and outlandish acrobatic moves can be supplemented with CGI anyway, and many different prop suits are made to accomodate different requirements for filming certain scenes.

I thought most of the Tommy as the leader stuff was handled more during his Green Ranger time? Wasn't the Ultrazord mini-arc basically built around getting Tommy and Jason to work together and basically be co-leaders instead of having a dick measuring contest?

If the movie does well (and that's a big if judging by the kneejerk reactions), I hope they incorporate the Dairanger suits someway. Have a team of 11 Rangers and two Megazords fighting multiple monsters.
Then bring in Kakuranger as something more than "10 episodes of Aliens to bridge S3 and Zeo"

Finding out White Ranger was from an entirely different team/show blew my fucking mind

Goes to show how much fuck up Saban did in the early days. They turn Kakurangers a ninja power rangers into aliens. I guess they still fucking up now with this.

I mean, they're under no obligation to do what the original Sentai. Hell, some of the best seasons of PR basically abandon what the Sentai originally did because it wasn't what PR's producers wanted.

so you have a childhood memory of a film studio making a power ranger movie in 2016 and when they revealed the costumes they looked good

The screams of "ruining/raping my childhood" are really dumb.
It's about what I expected a $120 million budget Power Rangers movie to look like. Especially with the popularity of Marvel.

The heels are dumb though, I'll concede that. Unless it's like Zero Suit Samus' rocket boots.

honestly, i feel like they could have gone the gobuster route with the basic designs and come out looking great. as much as ill give some members of that show shit, the designs were dope as hell

I expected power armor of some sort. It makes sense they'd go this direction with those motorcycle helmets but the design is still ugly and busy.

It's funny that the Joseph Kahn parody Power Rangers look better.

I actually kind of like the new costumes, although I think something closer to Black Panther's in Civil War would be a lot better.

The heels are a bit much though.

If these designers were in charge of the Black Panther costume it would have been War Machine armor with cat ears.

Eh

I love that people are calling these ugly whilst defending the cheapest looking most spandexy costumes ever designed. Never change, GAF.

That's because there's no correlation between how realistic/goofy the costumes are and how appropriate/aesthetically pleasing they are.
We are talking about a show with superheroes with dinosaur powers fighting an evil witch aboard a dinosaur robot god, you know.

Loved the Dairanger suits. Only Sentai I've watched, the action was so tight and the villains so creepy
