Pre-E3 2007: MS Comments on PS3 Price Drop: "We'll see if it makes a difference."

The Board proposes a motion to ban all GAF members who pass off Amazon sales figures as if they actually matter.

Is the motion seconded?
It's not too bad...yet. As proven time and time again, it doesn't seem to be a very good indicator of anything. It's just nice for those wanting more direct cause and effect 'proof' to go with their desired outcome.

Amazon's the #1 online retailer, plus their sales are also included in NPD's figures

Yes, and it's the cold hard truth... Either you have a silver spoon in your mouth, or you have to earn it... You can't expect to have companies give you the hardware for next to nothing... I wanted all the consoles i have and complimenting a/v gear, I didn't have a silver spoon in my mouth, so i worked to earn it... I want a Zonda but you won't hear/see me wishing death to Pagani because I want them to dramatically cut the price... Every thing has a cost associated to it when it's an added frill in life, costs money to have hobbies... If people really really really need that $49.99 price cut, they need to worry more about other things in life with their money like getting a better education for a better job... It's just really tiring anymore, you can't expect things in life for nothing...

The problem here is that even if you personally can afford something and will pay that much for it, there are a lot of other people who will not. And these "other people" are going to have a large impact on where publishers decide to put games.

Ya think maybe that's why Sony has focused so narrowly on building up and fostering its first party and in other terms exclusive development talent pool?

...and none of that seems ot account for that fact that those percentages typically amount to dick in any relevant discussion regarding sales figures. The sample is too narrow to matter in any way whatsoever.

You seriously can't draw any meaningful conclusions from them though. We've tried. Basically, if Amazon is a good indicator of the market, then Lumines should be #1 on the NPD next week. I'll bet my bouffant it's not.

Yeah but I'd say the timing was bad. Launching a new system (let alone one at $500 to $600) without proven sequels to bolster was a bad move. Xbox 360 had Call of Duty 2. Wii had Zelda. The only real recognizable sequel PS3 had that wasn't coming out elsewhere was Ridge Racer 7, and that is a niche franchise at this point.

On top of that games like Heavenly Sword and Lair needed to have been out already. The release list has been sparse since Motorstorm came out.

Deja vu.
