Pre-load for the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 has started

I'm surprised they even bothered preloading this to be quite honest. I wonder how everything will perform and how well it'll be optimized.

THE man

£50, they can fuck off with that pricing. This is another collection of which I played all the games at release MULTIPLE times. No way I’m paying more than £25 for this. Konami you absolute jokers.

Mgs1 remaster is probably best bought for Switch at this point, if it's 30 fps on both ps5 and switch. The 30 fps and 720p will look and feel better on a tiny screen.

Fuckin hell Konami. 25$ for MGS1?!

it's a shameless, lazy money grab by a company that is just impossible to trust, put out some of the worst compilations in history, and has had horrible messaging and PR on this game.

Preordering this is just insane.
This is actually a well thought out post.

Sell Mgs1 separately then we'll see, not interested in the other 2 i already have them on xbox with retrocompatibility
Fans can also purchase Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as stand-alone digital titles separate from the collection for €19.99 SRP. Regional versions of these titles will also be available as digital downloads at no additional cost.

but no option to buy each titles yet, why?

I have to wonder why MGS1 is so large for a PS1 game.

Some of the PS1 BC games on PS5 are also inexplicably huge:

Oddworld: Abe's Exodus - 3.96gb
Syphon Filter 2 - 6gb
The Legend of Dragoon - 6.47gb
That 4k resolution aint gonna load by itself...

Oh.....

MGS1 would look shit in 4k anyway. It's the only 3D entry that was designed with CRT in mind.

What it needs is to be native res but with a custom high quality multipass CRT filter that puts the consoles GPU to heavy use.

Then the 2D elements of the HUD look good and all the details will pop.

MGS2 and 3 benefit from widescreen, large displays because the direction was massively different.

You haven't player it in duckstation, perspective corrected textures, solid polygons, texture enhancements, z buffer fixes, wide-screen support... it looks fantastic, fuck those horrid CRT filters...

This is played on my Xbox Series X using Duckstation.

The game looks gorgeous with all this enhancements, the problem relies on their cheap emulation solution.

Textures look nice but i hate the stretched widescreen mod.
Life bars, items, weapon and radar look bad.

This is what I'm hoping. MGS3 was at times 24fps on PS2 and less than that on 3DS. Hopefully it will at least feel much smoother on the Switch's smaller screen. 60FPS is better but a smooth 30FPS is acceptable

For Vol. 2, i wonder who they are having get MGS4 off Ps3, and how it will run
From my limited understanding they’d probably need to recode MGS4 pretty much from scratch?

From memory it’s probably one of the most “coded to the metal” games ever developed, and when PS3 was said metal…😬

Duckstation + No Warping = godsend for PS1 3D games.

Mgs3 on ps2 went as low as 9 fps. It actually bounced between 9/12/15/20 and 30 fps. It was smartly done though, with perfect framepacing, if played on a 60 hz display.

Mg2 on ps2 is a locked 60, with a couple of big cutscenes rendered at 30, and a few artistic choices slow motion instances, rendered at 10.

3ds version runs at 14.

MGS2 is not 60 FPS locked on PS2, by any stretch of the imagination.
3DS version is capped at 20 FPS.

Mgs2 runs at 60 fps most of the time, especially in gameplay There are dips here and there no doubt, but it runs pretty consistently at 60. As i said there are portions that run at 10 for artistic choices, and some heavy cutscenes are capped at 30.
The HD ports actually had worse performance than the original ps2 v.

3ds may be capped at 20, but 90% of the time it runs at 15 or lower, especially in cutscenes.

Reverse groomer.
Why would people be excited to replay very popular and critically acclaimed games on modern platforms? It's a mystery.
you choose to replay them by paying 60 fucking dollars for them. That's the problem.

Like god damn, just pull out the PS3 if youre so desperate for Metal Gear Solid....

I recently replayed MGS2 (on pcsx3) in light of Dall-e bing image creator and ChatGPT vision and lemme tell yu 👀 this game is wild.

Some people don't have a working ps3, for others 60 dollars for 3 games is not that much. If it is a problem to you, you don't have to buy it and can play it on ps3, emulate it, watch it on YouTube or whatever. I really don't see why this is such a big deal.

I have the Legacy Collection on PS3 and I still want to pick this one up lol. PS3 doesn't do it for me anymore and I rather (re)play them on my Switch.

Still no real impressions of MGS2 and 3 on PS5? I really want to know if the 1080p res we're at least getting is a tangible upgrade over the last HD collection's 720p.
