printing your own (retro) game posters

The Katamari wallpaper everyone is asking for is on the Katamari site at katamari.namco.com. Here's the direct links to the wallpaper, though:

1024x768

1280x1024

There are a lot more on the site in the same style, too. On the main menu, click "Presents" and then click the "Wallpapers" tab.

By accident ran into this: http://telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3127

Can a wall be any cooler than this?

The guy edited the original cover art pulling out all stains/logo's and such, upscaling the resolution to 80x60cm, 200dpi @ 15MB/jpg. Send this file to a prof. printing company and you've got yourself a pretty nice poster! I think it turned out to be quite awesome and I'm eager to get my own, but I'm looking for some more high resolution game poster art to modify, specific old PC games like Gobliins adventure games from Coktel Vision, anything from Apogee, ....

I've seen other game poster threads passing by and spent most of the day savaging off google trying to aquire some high-res art like the above, but I've had no luck so far. Can you make your own "art" like this? How do you upscale scanned box art/game manual art without reducing the picture quality?

Already tried www.thecoverproject.org and other sites, nothing of any use found...
Any help from GAF, maybe?

You might have a very hard time getting this type of thing printed. I work for a prof. printing company and we can't do anything like that due to the possibility of copyright infringement laws.

Unless you have permission to do so, which I kinda doubt.

hey guys. for anyone looking for that katamari source image, I did a search on google images and found one that is 800 x 600 (bottom of page 6)

http://existenzminimum.net/wp-content/uploads/wp04_800.jpg

at work a lot of gaming sites and images are blocked, so google might have links to higher resolution ones, but I wouldn't be able to tell from here.

looks it was official wallpaper from namco's site a few years ago.

edit: beaten ;_;

I always loved this motivational poster someone here made years ago. I need to get it printed on photo paper soon:

BUT I have a question for you all: Should I leave the BELIEVE text "You can do anything" or should I replace it with the following Shigeru Miyamoto quote? BELIEVE...

"Everything you see is more than what you see — What if the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn’t? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you go inside, you’ll find many unexpected things."

many online poster printing companys dont give a shit about copyrights ;D

You can actually create your own posters pretty easily with ImageMagick. Find a site with a bunch of similarly sized images (e.g. screenshots or box art), and pull them down (wget --mirror on linux). Then you can use the ImageMagick 'montage' utility to combine them into a single image and add captions.

(I actually have this in a 4118x6496 PNG if anyone's interested)

A Mario pixel art made purely of dark and light game screens would look great.

Framed game art rocks. You can print out 5x7's for .99 cents at the CVS instant photo machine.

Here are a few that I printed out but haven't had a chance to frame yet.

Wow, those look pretty nice...and dare I say, stylish. Where did you get these photos (websites, etc)?

Oh boy, if I only hadn't actually taped up all of the posters from the hot new Nintendo 80's releases that would come in Nintendo power when I was a kid.

I was bored, so I made this.

This is a great thread, by the way.

some came from google/yahoo/ask image searches but they only get you so far. i got a couple from the various gaf wallpaper threads and the rest just came from following links off various sites to try and find images.

So basically I can get an image of a certain size, go Kinko's and say, "Make me a poster this sized with this image" ?

If you have a membership, Costco is a great place to get posters made for really cheap. They even have an online interface where you can upload it online and then pick up the poster in person.

Finding an image at that certain size can be tricky though. But otherwise, sure, why not?

Do you still have a copy of the Jet Grind Radio art?

Do you mind hosting up the high res versions of these two?

here they are from the original sources I got them from.

unfortunately this is the best image i could ever find for the jsr one, which is why i stuck to a 5x7 print for it. In addition you can see that I did a few touch ups for my print. I like all the ad print just fine but for framing I felt as though the negative space worked better. If you want to go that route editing it in a paint program is super easy.

and the mega man one is here. Again, I made a few edits to the image to better suit my needs.

I'm definitely going to have to look in to that. I've had this thing around for years but never actually hung it up due to the overwhelming awesomeness (I can't look at it for more than 15 seconds at a time):

Hey, that's actually a pretty good site.

Shame those pictures aren't in a higher resolution though. :[

I can get a 3722 x 4794 (300 dpi) picture of that without the logo's if you want it.

If you could post a link here I'd appreciate it, I've never seen a copy of the MS3 artwork without the actual game logo. Where is the image from? It will come in handy if I get around to having some box arts printed then I can have my MS3 in any size. :D

Had to compress it a little bit, but this should be fine:

Wow, thats awesome. Where is this from? It's the first time I've seen the artwork without any logos on it whatsoever. Got any more? Particularly Neo Geo games, thats my love.

Just something I stumbled upon from a random place, don't remember from where exactly. The most large images I have are from recent games, but you can always mention which art from which game you're looking for and I'll see if I have something for that.

Thanks for the links, folks.
On the Megaman one I did some editing and printed on a 10x15 cm glossy paper and I´m very satisfied with the result. Next will be Katamari, but I´ll problably have to print both again for my brother and nephew (I´m doing my part to keep the gaming flame burning with the new generations :D).

a) this thread is the radness.

b) i'm going to be spending a lot of money thanks to this thread.

c) there is software that allows you to do composite images, like the Mario one - in Linux, it's called Pixelize.

d) regardless, hosting it somewhere would be super nice.
