Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 Review Thread

When all of the opposing team is on your half of the pitch, and you pass it to one of your own players who is behind the other team it should not be an offside. But the game stops the play and calls an offside, when it should have let the play continue.

Even if your player is in his own half?

Can't say I've ever noticed that in all my years of playing ISS/PES.

I don't think that's right but I don't know if they changed the rule recently.
It shouldn't matter where the opposing players are. If the receiving player is behind the last defender and in the opponent's half during regular run of play, it's offside (at least that is what I was taught).

FIFA Offside Rules (2011)

I've never seen that happen in PES or Fifa and I've been playing them both for as long as I can remember.

I think the last PES I played was 2007. I remember enjoying it.

What are the online modes like now?

Is there a career mode like the Be A Pro mode in Fifa? Not a deal breaker, just curious.

Does it have the heavily scripted feeling that Fifa has?

It depends if the receiving player is in your own half or not - if he is, it's not offside (although I have to say, since that requires 21 players to be in one half of the pitch, I've never seen it happen). If the pass is played from behind the half way line but the receiving player is in the opposition half (i.e. over the half way line) then it's still offside.

Correct.

Yeah, that was my understanding of the rule as well. And I think I have never seen that happen either.

I just had to laugh when I went on Youtube and saw this:

Yeesh.

Yes Pro Evolution has Become a Legend. It's super addictive once you get into the flow of it,. It's a little different to Be a Pro in Fifa (the last time I played it was in 2014) as you have to work your way up from the lower teams to get the move to the club you want.

Online: Judge it on a game by game basis. It's annoyingly region locked, so if you had a EUR copy of the game, you can only play EUR people, but it's smooth

Career: Yup. Just as barebones too.

Scripted: No. There is certainly rubber banding at some points, but it feels like it's just to give a team getting hammered a goal back now and again. it doesn't feel forced like it does in FIFA.

The game calls offside from passes that start from behind the middle of the camp. Passes from behind the middle of the camp CANNOT be counted as offside.

Wait, are you talking about when entire other team is in your half and your dude is beyond them but just before the halfway line?

Really torn again this year.

I was leaning toward FIFA, but now I'm leaning toward PES. Played both demos last night and PES is just more fun to play.

FIFA is good too, though.

I feeling the exact same way.

Post from the PES thread:

This sucks :( I've got an Xb1 an PC. My choices for football games are so conflicting :-/

PC: I refuse to support that sku. Fuck Konami for gimping the PC version.

XB1: No option file download is heart breaking. The lower res is just another kick in the nuts.

After playing the demo for both PES and FIFA, I'd love to give PES a fair shot but I cant bring myself to buy a PS4 just for PES.

FIFA 17 isnt bad...just doesnt feel all that different from 16. Frostbite wasnt some game changing addition to the game.

#firstworldproblems Feelsbadman

The PES version of Ronaldo looks like he's gone totally out of shape, like the brazilian fat-ronaldo.. yet FIFA's seems to be a better representation..

Errrrrrr no.

Offside rule count only when the RECEIVER is in the offensive half of the pitch. Does not count where the passer is.

The game counts as an offside when the PASSER is on the DEFENSIVE side of the pitch and the RECEIVER is on the OFFENSIVE side of the pitch. Test it yourself with the demo.

Offside rules are only applied if the ball was passed on the offensive side of the pitch to another player on the offensive side of the pitch, the game doesn't respect this. If a defender shoots the ball from his side of the pitch to the other side of the pitch and an isolated striker receives it, with no one marking him, it should not count as an offside for example.

If he's behind the last man, he's offside

No Juventus (not official name and stuff) = No Buy... at leas not at full price...

I can understand if we talk about a team that wins nothing and is small... but please...

That said, I tried both demo (Fifa and PES), and for this year like for all this new gen (last gen FIFA was better), I prefer PES.

EDIT:
If there is a way to use an "option file" on the PS4 to solve this problem, please tell me...

There is - PES Universe will have an option file with Serie A included today. Video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuy3AA6yOtY

Played both demo’s and gameplay wise PES is the big winner. The FIFA 17 demo played felt clunky while PES2017 is very smooth. Also PES seems to have better teammate AI and tactical options.
FIFA 17 presentation and graphics are top notch though. I really hate the excessive use of motion blur in PES 2017.

Picking up PES 2017 today and have FIFA 17 in pre-order, which will possibly be cancelled.

Regarding option file import on X1, i don’t think Microsoft allows it so it’s quite possible Konami isn’t to blame.

Without a doubt fifa imo.

It is much less realistic, but the arcadey gameplay probably makes it better for people like you (and I) who don't follow the sport.

Arcady? If only. Still missing ISS and old-Fifa. My sister is a huge soccer-game-fan and I would enjoy playing some with her, but certainly not these overly complicated simulation games. Why do both series have to chase the complicated-and-realistic market instead of offering fast, simple to use and arcady :(.

If a game is more arcade like, that's PES with its pin point passes and sticky ball (to the feet of the player) and auto-tackles. For all the fluidity that it's praised so much, you rarely see that most of the time in a real football match

The ball doesn't stick to the players' feet in my experience, and auto tackles take 2 seconds to switch off in the player data settings. Pass assist can also be turned down in the same settings if it feels too assisted.

don't agree on the sticky ball, but the passing can be tweaked to your liking with controller settings.

I play lowest assist with advanced through balls. It's enjoyable.

So I've almost always been a FIFA player, however, having just tried both demos back to back, I'm really considering switching. Got a couple of questions though:

- Is there a "FIFA Style" control option? I seem to remember something like this in a previous PES game.

- Can you download proper kits/names on PS4? I understand a lot of folks don't care, but it's kind of a big deal for me.

- Is there commentary in the demo? Perhaps I missed the option, but there wasn't any in the demo.

PC version is still last gen. I guess it'll keep happening until they stop developing last gen console version. And by then, it'll be the next gen and the cycle continues..

Yeah, I know that much but is it just graphics for PES2017?

Trouble is the Xbox is low res and apparently no option file, PC is last gen which makes PS4 the only option. Would be good of Konami to give players a second option but I guess when Scorpio comes at least it won't be low res.

I might just wait a few months and see what the price is on PC. If PES is genuinely good now and its only graphics I'd be down for a discounted version to play. Like a lot of people I haven't been invested in PES since PS2 days. I bought PES 1-6.

FIFA doesn't play well either and is getting worse so I've been on a long hiatus from football games.

yeah, if you click square on the select sides, the switch control type to type 2.

you can, yes. check PESgaming.

yes there will, but it is so much worse than no commentary.
