I think Squire once said Yes could be a perpetual band. At some point the entire lineup would be replaced and the legacy carried on. The Enid is doing this now as Robert John Godfrey is slowly losing it and a fantastic group of young musicians are writing music that will carry The Enid even further. It's a possibility but I would think the entire band would need to be replaced.

Tomorrow I will see The Neal Morse band, stoked! Anyone here seen them before?

His latest, the Grand Experiment (2015) is a great album. It is the first where the writing effort is by the whole band instead of just Neal Morse himself. Not a christian and some of his work is not my really cup of tea (that is not related to religion, though), but I think Grand Experiment is great. Should be great live and as a Dream Theater fan I am also looking forward to seeing Portnoy progging/rocking out.

I also have tickets for both the Human Equation theater experience (Ayreon) and the small venue concert try-out with the stand-ins performing. Really looking forward to those performances. It is amazing how many of the original artists are involved.

New Riverside track is out in the lead up to the release of their next album, "Love, Fear and the Time Machine."

Discard Your Fear

It's not quite as heavy or dark as their normal stuff, but I really like it.

Looking forward to the album in September!

hell yeah! thanks for this.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned yet in this thread, but the new Kingcrow album "Eidos" is fucking fantastic.

I saw Rush live in concert yesterday. They were amazing. They played a song from each album starting with the latest album and working backwards.

It was a roughly three hour show with no opening act, and only a 15 minute break in the middle.

And they still totally got it. They are just on a whole other level of talent and musicianship.

No mention of the new Echolyn album? There's a new Echolyn album. It's good. Cause it's Echolyn. It's definitely reminiscent of the direction their last album took, but with a bit more of the rockin' dissonant feel of their earlier stuff.

Bam!

Oh wow, I kind of forgot about Neal (though not Transatlantic!) when I couldn't find his stuff on eMusic anymore. Last album I got of his was Sola Scriptura. I dig most of his prog stuff.

I saw the same show a couple of weeks ago, it was so amazing. Sad that this is probably their last. :(

But they skipped some albums, like Power Windows, Hold your Fire, Presto and Test for Echo

I was really hoping that they would've done "Time Stand Still" if Aimee Mann was there! (It was the 2nd Toronto show, being filmed for a live dvd/cd so it'd be cool for her to be there). Was sad at the lack of a song from Power Windows (Big Money or Mystic Rhythms). There was definitely a song or two they could've done from Presto or T4E to... but with the amount of time it would've taken to get through all of that.

Actually what would've made more sense was for their first Toronto show to be the newer stuff; Clockwork Angels to Grace Under Pressure. Then the second show could've been like Signals to Rush. 10 albums each, 2-3 songs from each!

Listened to a few songs, liked it. Will check out more of their collection soon!

Double post, but whatever -

Going to see Between the Buried and Me, Animals As Leaders, and The Contortionist tonight! My buddy got us VIP Tickets so we get to meet the band(s?) backstage before the show!

And not necessarily Prog Rock - but I am also going to see Faith No More this Friday night!!

So I found this last night whilst reading about some Pink Floyd/David Gilmour stuff

QK4CWEel.jpg

It combines The Division Bell, The Endless River and some of the bonus tracks in to a 2 disc album.

CD 1

Cluster One
Allons-y 1
Autumn '68
Allons-y 2
What Do You Want From Me?
Unsung
Anisina
Poles Apart

The Lost Art of Conversation
On Noodle Street
Night Light
Keep Talking
Talkin' Hawkin'
Lost For Words

Calling
Eyes to Pearls
Wearing the Inside Out

CD 2

Take It Back
Sum
Skins
Coming Back To Life

First In Space
Carnival Relations
Louder Than Words
Things Left Unsaid
Ebb & Flow
A Great Day for Freedom

TBS9
It's What We Do
Marooned
High Hopes

There's some clever editing to make the songs flow together and even to change some in major ways. Poles Apart for example, has the carnival section removed, with Surfacing put in its place.

I'm not normally a big fan of these types of things, I've always been an album listener, but this one has been impressing me. I think the fact that all of the music came from the same sessions helps a lot.

Dang. I didn't know Chris Squire had passed on. This makes me sad. I saw the 9012Live tour and thought he was the coolest dude.

I just realised the new Riverside is out in 4 days!

Pretty excited. Their last one was great.

This sounds awesome. I've done similar things with Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson stuff since he usually puts out EPs of shit that didn't quite make it but it still kickass.

Progressive rock was the genre that got me the hell away from jam bands and for that I am forever grateful.

There was a period of time where it was basically all I listened to. I saw a lot of prog shows. My favorite was probably Fish. That guy is the most intense frontman I've ever seen.

I don't follow the scene as close as I used to, but I still enjoy listening to IQ, The Flower Kings, and Van Der Graaf Generator on long car trips.

David Gilmour played a preview gig in Brighton in the lead up to his 2015/16 tour.

5am (new album)
Rattle That Lock (new album)
Faces of Stone (new album)
Wish You Were Here
A Boat Lies Waiting (new album)
The Blue
Money
Us And Them
In Any Tongue (new album)
High Hopes

Astronomy Domine
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Fat Old Sun
On An Island
The Girl In The Yellow Dress (new album)
Today (new album)
Sorrow
Run Like Hell
Time/Breathe (Reprise)
Comfortably Numb

Great to see him playing stuff like Sorrow, Money and Run Like Hell again.

Wouldn't surprise me if his main tour has more of his solo stuff, as his album isn't out for a few more weeks and he might not want to have it all bootleged to hell.

Devin Townsend's doing acoustic gigs across the UK in October and I'm gutted I can't make the London show as I'll be on holiday.

The man's fantastic and I'd urge any proggers out there to check out his work if they haven't already done so.

I always struggle with the definition of Prog Rock/Metal and always lump Coheed and Cambria, Blind Guardian, Running Wild and Iron Maiden in with my favourite prog rock bands.

Those are of course King crimson, Rush and Dream Theater.

Would Primus count too??

And then I lump Pink Floyd and 11th Floor Elevators as psychadelic rock genres confuse me!

For anyone who hasn't heard the new Riverside I urge you to do so. It's still early but I think this might be the best thing they've done since Second Life Syndrome and that's saying something as everything they put out is top notch.

It's good, but I think I liked their last one a little bit more. That might be in part because the word "hashtag" is probably one of the most cringey things anyone could ever sing.

well, come on this is the band that sings "I am so happy when they f you!"

Primus is considered Prog in the broader sense. Psych rock is mostly put together along with prog, 13th Floor Elevators are proto prog arguably.

After splitting from his third wife in 2008, Collins said he "went through a few bits of darkness; drinking too much. I killed my hours watching TV and drinking, and it almost killed me. But I haven't had a drink in three years."

Wow, who knew. I'm glad he pulled himself out of it. I'd rather see the drummer Phil Collins come out of retirement, but the pop singer will do for now.

Speaking of Phil, any of you prog-rockers listen to his son, Simon Collins and his band Sound of Contact? He sings and plays drums just like his dad. It's pretty damn good:

They also do a Genesis cover:

Keep It Dark

He sounds just like his dad.

Phil and Simon also did a son+dad drum instrumental:

pretty badass.
