Project Cars - PC vs. PS4 graphics comparison (YouTube)

iirc DF used to do that last gen, ps360 games vs pc games at low/medium settings on 720p.

Resolution was set to 720p, but the in-game settings were otherwise maxed out so you could still compare any additional features PC would have aside from massive super sampling (i.e. higher res) vs console. I believe MSAA was used where applicable.

Well..

Probably big difference are the alpha and reflection. Those are graphics features. Common things for PC vs console.

I would like to see more of that on the consoles - I want to see more difference graphics features on each system. Not more of boring, only IQ i.e. 900p vs 1080p.
Unforuntaly both are very similar technical, and even worst - same architecture this time after PS3 vs 360. So it will be likely an another lame graphics war for rest of the gen.

I don't really see the difference. If the PS4/XBO comparisons are for people with both an XBO and a PS4 and want to make a decision which to buy for, then surely the PS4/PC comparison is for people who have a PS4 and a PC and want to decide which to buy for?

If you have a powerful PC any comparison with consoles is pretty pointless as far as deciding which platform to buy a game on. PC is going to win every time. If you don't then it's likely you don't have a GPU that's as powerful as PS4's. So the default option is consoles.

Pretty much.

Both look lastgen to me, and both have there pros and cons
That shot does look worse on PS4, but I don't think it needs quoting while dismissing others as "Time of day" differences
This shot for example someone pointing out the PS4 has no AF and lol at the ground textures
Both look shit to me, and other differences pointed out is due to time of day, but so easy to dismiss but a big list come out for that other shot.

PS4 looks way worse to me. I don't play a lot of racing games though nor am i technically minded enough to spell out whats wrong with it, but seeing the side by side photos made the PS4 version look real rough.

Though seeing it in motion made the whole game look rough to me lol.
(Sorry if that offends any racing fans. I was interested enough to take a peak, does that count?)

Well, the XBO is clearly inferior to the PS4 on a technical level, so if that's the only consideration I don't see why any of these comparisons are done.

Looks good for 1080p 60fps on PS4. For those championing framerate and res in favor of everything else, here's a game for you

No, not at all. You will find people not owing X console bashing the other and blowing differences out of proportion to make themselves feel better.

They are absolutely not "better" than PC vs console as you try to imply.

I think you need to read what I said again, considering I didn't use nor imply the word you put in quotation marks. I suggest reading all of it too (including the third sentence).

Do you enjoy this style of racing games?

Kinda,

i played GTR and that simulation game on PS1 (forgot the name :D )
But recently I kinda stopped playing pure sims.

BTW: if people say Driveclub is soulless, than this game comes straight out of Soulless City - Population 1

PS4's power advantage is not always put to use. On PC you're guaranteed a better version if your hardware is powerful enough.

With XB1 and PS4 you can never be sure. It's either these outcomes:

XB1 peformes better than PS4 (for some odd reason)
PS4 peformes better than XB1
PS4 and XB1 are equal.

Both versions ( PC and PS4 ) look quite bad, specially compared to Driveclub. Yes, I know its 60fps, but it looks quite bad in my opinion, even for 60fps.

Yeah this looks just horrible. Racing games look a lot better in motion when the car's are racing and not when they are perfectly still. If you focus all your attention on some close in shot of a ground texture of course there is going to be rough edges.

Eh I don't think it's fair to compare it to Driveclub, that game is leagues ahead of everything else in terms of visuals.

PCars still looks fantastic by most racing game standards.

The gap is widening. The game will certainly be very, very taxing though.

I don't know , maybe for ultra. But since it's doing 60fps on console , for equivalent settings and performance you won't need much. 270x/660 will do fine i bet

There have absolutely been times when PC versions are buggy, low frame rate, unoptimized messes. It happens (for some odd reason).

Yep this is what you get going 60fps and its ok if thats your cup of tea. But I am so glad Evo kept DC to 30fps instead of caving in to 60fps warriors. DC looks miles better than this and still plays great. This games lighting looks so flat and unimpressive.

I think GT7 is the one that will set the new bar for 60fps.

30 FPS is fine for an arcade game but for a sim I will take 60 FPS every time. When you need to be making those quick reactions when driving the extra FPS helps a ton.

I rarely see that happen. Even if it does, then that means the console versions will have similar problems too. Advantage for the PC version is that it will still find ways to look better overall. Again, assuming you have good hardware.

Point is there's more variables when choosing between consoles than console vs PC.

But AF has practically zero performance hit on modern GPUs.

This isn't true and we have had a discussion about this.

On console there's less bandwidth than most gpus going in to a pc so it's not something devs can enable without risking performance losses.

Even when it has happened during this generation similar spec pcs still can run better and with higher IQ than consoles. You're not losing out granted it's unoptimized but this happens regardless pc or console these days it's nothing like it use to be.

What about this?

If you have both xbox one and PS4, performance can be close enough that you may choose xbox for friends, controller preference, or other reasons. Maybe the PS4 version messed something up? So I still think DF comparisons are useful.

But a Gaming PC is so far removed that comparisons are pointless. And it isn't a single spec, so people often do measurements based on ultra specs on an uber rig. An Xbox vs PS4 comparison will show you what the game will look like on your console. A PC comparison will not tell you exactly what it'll look like on your PC.

It's happened too that similar or more powerful PC can't even handle console games eh.

I'd like to know what the PC specs were for those images, but I'm more than happy with the PS4 version, especially if it keeps a stable 60fps.

What will be interesting is if any of the 60fps warriors start moaning about IQ or anything else about the console versions graphics.

I hear that often But after playing Driveclub, 30fps is a none issue in that game. I certainly can tell the difference in shooters. 30fps just feels slow after playing 60fps shooters.

Strange, it was hard to spot the differences until they started showing one image on top of the other, then it became night and day.

Very pretty game.

Although I don't understand the reason behind the comparison, the PC version is always going to look better.

Well, the XBO is clearly inferior to the PS4 on a technical level, so if that's the only consideration I don't see why any of these comparisons are done.

Because sometimes the X1 version is better. For example, I bought Unity on X1 because it was the "better" version.

Wait, is this really Ultra runing on 2 GTX980 SLI at ~70 FPS? I'm not saying there isn't a difference in graphics (if you watch a 1080@60 video on youtube the difference is actually more noticeable imho), but damn, the console version holds up very well in this case.

We're talking about 8+ TFLOPS vs 1.84 TFLOPS of raw GPU power here if I'm not too mistaken :P

Didn't they say a while back that they used varying amounts of AF depending on the importance of the surface? Seems like the road would be the most important for that.

And? I know multiplat with better AF on xbone but not a single superior multiplat in any other front, except the Godly 2 fps advantage on Unity.

I don't see any lack of AF on PS4. I mean, it is little weaker than on PC. And it is NOT better on PC either. You should edit OP because some point of yours is wrong.

You're contradicting yourself. If the AF is weaker on the PS4, how is it not better on the PC?

How can it be a time of day thing when the environmental shadows are identical across the two shots, lighting quality aside.

Yup, road should have AF on PS4, but it could be that they haven't toggled it on all tracks on the platform or that it was too much to handle. On PC it's forced all surfaces if on (I'm not sure it's on in all of those shots), but weirdly the default settings don't have high AF.

The AF looked shit on both tbh, well PS4 doesn't have any lol

And I don't know, just repeating what was said mate, Someone said something look better on PS4 and someone else said it didn't look better on PS4 because it's was just the time of day that made it different/look better
Then people start posting the same image over and over nitpicking at it.
One rule for one different rules for another it seems.
I do prefer the blue hue to the PS4 version but PC is obviously better in details, but they both look shit in the OP, that gif above looks good tho.
