Project x Zone US demo Live on eShop

Here you go

I'm still waiting for EXCEED. T__T

I've enjoyed the battle system and the gameplay so far, though it might be tiresome later on like some said. The system was not too hard to follow and after 2 or 3 fights I got the hang of it. Presentation was nice, I was familiar with some of the music and the series that the more obscure characters hail from so I gotta kick out of seeing them. One thing that made me sad was that the Valkyria Chronicles 3 special move was called
Localized Assault...or something similar ;-;

Overall, it seems like I'll buy this day 1.

You should know whether or not you want to buy something after playing it once or twice.

So you can say that for everyone? I played the Theatrhythm demo 30 times...

This game is fucking rad, I'm gonna preorder when I pick up The Last of Us. And it's Project Cross Zone, correct? Not ex?

holy sweet christ I have no clue how that game works at all but I played the demo for like fifteen minutes, then decided to preorder :)

seems it'll be worth figuring out.

This is truly a love or hate game. IMO the combat will get really old fast. I'm gonna wait for impressions of the B demo.

Same with me! High five bro!

Any word on if we'll get it before the release of the full game?

Yeah, X = Cross for some of Namco & Capcom's games. Either pronunciation is fine, though officially, it's pronounced "Project Cross Zone"

Cannot wait to get the OST. Need another pre-order/LE CD to have in my car to listen to.

I wonder why they went with some random (seemingly) middle game point? I think Fire Emblem had a much better idea going with the demo featuring early chapters which introduce the story and characters. I guess they wanted to fit in as many franchises as they could in the demo? But it makes it harder to get into the gameplay...

Either way, it was fun enough to me, and I just like crossovers in general, so I might buy the game itself.

And just to clarify (because I wasn't clear on it myself having only played EF before this), there is NO LEVEL GRINDING in this game. Seems like that fact alone should make juggles (and crits) during battle that much more relevant, meaning button mashing won't win the day in the end.

Not sure how people are getting confused by the battle system. Its not button mashy or crazy fast paced or anything. You use one move after the other, juggling the enemy to the best of your ability, maybe throw in an extra solo or support character action, then bust out a Y button super if necessary.

Just wait for one attack to end and activate the other before the enemy hits the ground.

And thats just from playing the game for the first time via the demo (i'm sure i'm missing out on some finer points, but its not that complicated so far).

Thanks! The OST is fantastic as well.

Yeah, when I selected the demo and heard KUROSU I was like what?

lol I had the same reaction.

Is the US/EU version getting JP voices as well?

Beat the demo twice last night and I had a much better idea of what I was doing the second time through. The first time, I had a couple guys get knocked out on the boss and the second time I had nobody. One thing I didn't get either time was what the D and S and stuff mean. People saying the game is too simple and will get repetitive...I think there's more to this than you think. It seems like it will be more about knowing which attacks to do when (I was just doing them in the order listed) and hopefully the real game will explain all that. Also, tips on when to do a Cross or when to do solo and/or support would be good as well. It took me to the second playthrough to realize every time I was choosing Counter, it was taking away from tha tbar that if it's 100%, you can do your Y attack. Also, realized towards the end that Cross attacks let you get that meter up to 150%.

Definitely very interested in this game and will buy when it comes out.

yeah I started to see glimmers of that, but how do I know which of the tree attacks launch/juggle/are bad at juggles. what does the Y button do! when is support ability necessary! does it matter which two characters go into battle together? what governs who your partners are! what's going on!

it takes a while to sort through all that.

also those "tutorial" screens are super long and totally out of context, so I skipped most of them.

You can find some of that info in the in game tutorial screen by pressing 'x' twice and going in the 'Database' option.

'Y' button for super attack only when you have accumulated 100% xp (cross points)

Support is always great and is the only way to get your xp% past 100%.

XP% is shared with the whole party and is accumulated through successful hits.

The B, D, S, and P stand for status effects.

Critical hits are achieved when the enemy is really close to the ground.

Really looking forward to this game right now. So much fun. I want to use MMX!

'Y' button for super attack only when you have accumulated 100% xp (cross points) just jumping in, I thought XP meant experience--you know, like it always does in every video game :)

The B, D, S, and P stand for status effects. yup, just glancing at that move list at the bottom of the screen had NO idea what these meant

pumped to spend some time with it this evening slowly figuring it out instead of just jumping in like a jackass

For the release version, does anyone know if you're able to pick your team before fights or if you're just stuck with what they give you like in the demo?

I recall that each team has 5 moves you can use (A, A+Up, A+Down, A+Left, and A+Right). You earn more by leveling up.

It it is anything like Super Robot Wars, then while you might have pre-deployed teams early in the game, once you hit a certain threshold of units you will be able to pick which units you deploy. There will probably generally be one or two units you need to bring to each mission for plot reasons, then you get to choose the rest of the team you deploy.

are there more moves or is the stuff in the demo all they pretty much got (for these characters)?

If it's like Namco x Capcom, you unlock more moves when you level up. Characters that don't have moves assigned to every direction on the d-pad (as well as neutral) should fill that out as they level.

From what I heard, everyone will be deployed every time unless some characters are not here because of the story. So you will never have to choose your team.

Really? I guess the cast list is too small for choosing who to deploy to be strictly necessary, but it sounds like battles might drag on a bit if the army sizes are always that big.

It took you 30 times to decide whether you wanted or did not want to buy Theatrhythm?

I asked this on GameFAQs, but for posters on GAF who've played the Japanese game already:

Does anybody have any opinions on what the better teams in the game are, gameplay wise? Any standouts? I'm interested in hearing some opinions, and they can be with or without Solo partners. As long as you think they are very good.

I'll be forming my own opinions once I play the game, but I'm curious to see what others think.

EDIT:

It took you 30 times to decide whether you wanted or did not want to buy Theatrhythm?

I was only joking...

but you could say that, yes.

Damn I wanted to replay the demo but after I had my 3DS on last night, I opened it this morning (it was on sleep after the end of the demo) and it says "an ERROR has occurred" so I turn it off and go to play the demo again, 0 uses. Damn...maybe if I reinstall it? I do. It still says 0. The fuck happened? I got jipped out of 4 uses... DX

Played through the demo yesterday, didn't understand the battle system much (too lazy to read all that database text) and just button smashed my way through mostly. I'm sure there's more to it, but in the end not a game I would want to play.

Demo was not convincing.

Am I missing something? The battle system was kinda shit. Barely any strategy involved.

Seems like another squandered opportunity for a crossover game to actually be good.

I agree, at least a little anyways. The demo isn't convincing and the battle system does seem shit, but I'm sure that's a lot on me not wanting to learn it. Ultimately, I'm not that into cross games so I'm not compelled to learn it either. Still cool that it's coming over.

I really enjoyed this game, the fact that some retro characters get all up in that s#!t makes me happy.. Though I feel as if the Demo is lacking a bit more functionality, I can't really play that kind of game with such limited game play.

You should buy the game to see if you like it... wait...

Yes. Same dudes making all these games. Longass battles where you just press buttons over and over just to grind damage on enemies while watching the same animations again and again and again and again. :(

So the I pressing I from playi g the EU demo once wasn't wrong? Good to know. Will avoid now at all costs.

You don't choose who to deploy because the game scales up like crazy in enemy damage sponge count.

Nope. There's no over world or anything; you just move from one story mission to the next. I found that there's not enough EXP to go around. Luckily new teams are introduced at pretty high levels relative to their debut mission.

I swore to myself that if this game ever does do the impossible and gets localized, I'm going to buy two copies just to support them for bringing it over. Played the demo and I'm happy I don't have to buy the same game twice in vain. So yeah, One copy to play, and the other to save. I think this is going to become the next Radiant Historia.

As for the demo, I've exhausted the play count. I love it. I'm not denying that it gets repetitive later on, but combat has just enough flash to keep me invested for a very very long time.

I'm guessing you're referring to the scarcity of hard copies. Yeah, I could see that. If nothing else, I appreciate the extras some publishers have been offering with new 3DS releases. Too bad Nintendo doesn't do more of that itself.

Wow, uh, so is the entire game walking around with no real tactics, use as many health items as you want in one turn, then engage in combat that is nothing but hit a couple buttons with no apparent limitations or need for timing beyond juggling?

I mean, if I'm understanding this properly anyway, this is like browser shovelware. This demo knocked me from "oh well, its fan service fluff, but I feel I must support it" to "I can't even bring myself to buy this for X and Zero." This makes those cute little Queen's Blade games look like Tactics Ogre.

Pretty sure those Queen's Blade games are exactly the same type.
