Prototype -- what to expect?

So with all that E3 mania I almost forgot that Prototype is due next week.
Can't find a review anywhere. But hands on sessions seemed positive.

I am very curious about this game. What do you guys think? Is it gonna be a winner? A must buy? I really enjoyed Crackdown and all the GTA's. I haven't touched InFamous yet. What I expect from Prototype is the best of all these former games mixed into one solid package. At least game play wise.

Hope some of you can give me some feedback on what to expect. I could not find the official Prototype thread because -- at least for me -- the search function is not available.

And when will the first reviews be available? My local magazine vendor did not have any game mags featuring a review of this title. So close to release. Is that bad?

There's only been one review so far, and it's from PSW Magazine UK where it received a 9/10. Never heard of it myself, but quotes like this lead me to believe Prototype is gonna be great:

Still, you won't ever have played a sandbox game that creates so much carnage and offers so many ways to play.

Awesomeness...no seriously look at where it comes from and you will know!

Yeah from the guys that made that Hulk game. But I never played that one. Trying to get my hands on that new issue of PSW.

The game has always looked pretty rough around the edges to me, but I hope it turns out well. The concept is pretty nifty and could be a lot of fun.

No demo and a lack of hands-on outside of controlled sessions makes it hard to have much faith in the game to be awesome beyond the core concept of tearing people up. Maybe that's enough, I don't know. With Red Faction sating my need for wanton destruction, Prototype has been pushed back a few months.

Game looks great but I've seen the trailer so many times over while waiting for the E3 conferences to start on IGN's page that I feel like I've played the whole game already.

I'm looking forward to it. I beat Infamous a couple of days ago and I was sorely disappointed. It had some cool concepts, but I felt that there was a serious lack of mobility and freedom in a game that relied so heavily on those pillars. I found that it was virtually impossible to get anywhere in a timely manner, whether I was trying to use power lines/train tracks or not. Climbing something to get to those lines/tracks was tedious and took the piss out of my perception as Cole being a bad ass superhero.

Hell, even Spider-Man and the Hulk gave you an ability that let you scale buildings quickly.

Bleh.

Hopefully Prototype will fix some of the mobility problems that made Infamous un-fun.

Hulk runs straight up buildings, which looks absolutely idiotic. But if you like that kind of jackhammer approach to movement, then you already know you will like Prototype.

It just looks incredibly repetitive.

Good, I expect this game selling great on both HD systems, hoping for a sequel.

I expect it to bomb. No one knows about the game, seriously I only found out about it a few weeks ago and I'm on this site every day.

Has there been ANY word on the PC version of it? Or, furthermore, does anyone know if this team has had success on PC in the past? As far as I can tell, Hulk was a console exclusive...

Bolded for emphasis says it all.

That and the way Garnett gushed about it reminded me of how he gushed about Blood on the Sand.

Yep just like Infamous except you get more powers and you can rip people apart. It will sell more copies than Infamous.

It might well sell more copies than Infamous. It is multi-platform after all. However I doubt it's EXACTLY like Infamous even if the concepts are similar.

The animation is different (run, hold, jumo off, run), but essentialy Mercer can do most things Hulk could do in Ultimate Destruction.

However, his critical mass abilities are (obviously) aimed at carnage whereas Hulk's were aimed at "SMAAAASH".

From my short session with Prototype I'd say it's Hulk: UD 1.5. Which I consider to be a good thing.

It'll probably be a more over-the top fun than inFamous, but as a big platform/parkour fan, I'm afraid maneuvering the city simply won't be as fun. :(

Haven't read a bad thing about the game, the previews that I have read were positive. The videos look fucking badass. Also....

THESE ARE THE SAME GUYS THAT MADE INCREDIBLE HULK: ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION!!!!

Is there anything else left to say?

Here's one: where in the hell are the casual gameplay demonstrations and previews? I know it's E3 so people are busy, but do sites even have playable versions to screw around with at their own pace? Between that and the lack of a demo, right now it seems like they are basically hiding the game until release.

Yeah... red faction being out and being awesome probably just took the wind out of the sails for this game for me. I would rather wait 2 weeks and get fight night 4 with my credit me thinks.

I don't know, I'm just not buying the ' run all over buildings vertically'.... just seems like it would get old really fast cause there is not any fascination with it.

It will take lots of great review scores next week for me jump on I think.

Dunno, after inFamous, and no real hands-on experience, I don't know what to expect from this game. It sounds incredible, but so did Hulk and I tossed that one after 3 days.

I've played the game and I enjoy it a lot, you can really create some mayhem in it.

Don't know if it will hold the entire stretch of the game but so far I'm enjoying it.
