Or it is there because every Sony console from PS2, PSP, PS3, PS Vita and now PS4 has come with a camera for tracking and Augmented reality gaming purpose.
Did any of those consoles actually come with a camera? Just Vita right?This

PS2 = Eyetoy
PSP = Chotto Shot or Go Cam
PS3 = PS Eye
PS4 = PS4 Eye
Those cameras were released a year or 2 after each system was launched and were bundled with console and games that needed them. But the point is Sony always built a camera for their consoles and that has nothing to do with Kinect and isn't going to suddenly stop with PS4. Whether it comes in the box on the day of console launch is inconsequential, in fact I would expect PS4 to come with a camera in the box because DS4 has features that rely on it, PS4 has features like Face Login and UStream that rely on it, and we are in a generation where everything has a camera and is able to video chat.
Thanks for posting this, It's like some people suddenly developed amnesia this gen. Didn't Sony showed the PSEye and Eye of judgement before the PS3 even lauched?
I know Sony has sold cameras for the consoles, but they haven't "come with" them. It's obviously a bigger focus now, and I'm personally hoping that it's just because they're playing it safe. I'd rather it not be a big deal for most games.PS2 = Eyetoy

PS3 = PS Eye
PS Vita = built in Cam
PS4 = PS4 Eye

I don't see why it can't be both.
One thing I hate with ps eye and move is how many times the move would lose calibration once you moved outside the boundary box you used to calibrate. Made me prefer the wii ir solution more. If this is fixed with the new one, then that'll be a big plus for me
I would think the wider field of view would automatically make this less of an issue, but I also haven't had this problem (although I'm not the heaviest Move user).One thing I hate with ps eye and move is how many times the move would lose calibration once you moved outside the boundary box you used to calibrate. The on-rails Dead Space game, Child of Eden and some other titles I can't remember. Dead Space for example just feels better on the wii to me. I guess its because with the wii, its like you're actually pointing the wiimote to the tv (well, to the sensor actually), but with move, all I'm doing is moving my wrist. If I move more than that then return to the position I calibrated with, I tend to lose calibration and the move pointer ends up being offscreen, or somewhere far from the centerI have never had this problem what game was you playing?

So it's been forever since I've seen anybody post progress on this problem... probably the reason most people have shelved their move's, but anyhoo I had an epiphany recently that has helped my problem in regards to using the move as a pointer.
The short version... the drift is due to poor programming and it can be corrected to a degree on your end. I remember hearing from one of the move developers that there is some auto-correction calibration thingamajiggy in the move's firmware that is designed to auto correct misalignments between the calibration and the actual position of the move reticle. This auto correction is the source of the problem. To help it, you can position your eye toy either slightly off to the right of the center of the tv (or left if you are left handed), or the better option is to point the eye toy (centered on the TV) to the right (or left as needed) so that the eye toy is centered on the TV and facing the HAND THAT IS HOLDING THE MOVE CONTROLLER, rather than the center of your body.
So is this PS Eye more of a clone of the Kinect where all you need is yourself in front of the camera or a Wii sensor bar which would require something like the move controller to work
I am guessing its more like a Kinect

It's more of an evolution of the PS Eye. And yes you will need it for future PS4 Move games.
Oh ok, what I mean though is with titles like dance central for example, played on the kinect just requires a human body and nothing else, would that be the same for this or would you need the ps move in hand (similar to if you were to play just dance on the Wii)
it can do both.
Necrobump, but I have a few questions.
1. Was is ever confirmed that the PS Eye 3.0 will come with every PS4?
2. How much do we think it will add to the cost of the system, or how much will it cost standalone?
3. I saw that each controller has an eye sensor, has it been confirmed that you do not need to have the PS Eye 3.0 plugged in all the time?
4. Is PS4 doing voice recognition stuff in the PS4 XMB ala what Kinect does today?
5. How do you think tracking the position of the controller could help mainstream controller games?
1. No
2. Talking to people I know at sony the rumor rumbling around is that the camera went from pack in to peripheral to keep prices down after the ram bump.
3. Even if its packed in it won't be required.
4. Probably. I hope not, but probably.
5. I don't think it will do much of anything.
The hardware isn't really important. It's all about the marketing and public exposure, with which MS will trounce Sony.
I have a lot of systems, and currently, my TV has a:
- Wii Speak
- Wii Sensor Bar
- Wii U Sensor Bar
- Kinect
- PS Eye
In a few months it will have a PS4 Eye and I don't know which sensor is the 720 going to include.
My TV looks ridiculous.
Those Kinect 2 specs make no sense.
Kinect 1 could capture depth at 640x480. (And did if you connected it to a PC.)
it can do both.
So your clearly in the know as they never showed anything. But you basically saying the PS4 camera has all the capabilities of the original Kinect.
Does the new cam = Kinect?
I think it is capabilities enough to get what Kinect can do. It is all about the software can do.
I suspect only different is the data input, new Eyetoy using 2 cameras to work out the depth, and Kinect using IR camera for it.

he asked if it could track your body like Kinect to play a game like Dance Central or if you would need a controller & I said it could do both which it can.

in fact Dance Central could have been done with the PSEye only problem is a lot of people don't know who to set up the PSEye up in a good lighting & background situation so it would be bad to release a game where some people can't enjoy it because of lighting in their home.
but the PS4 Eye will fix this by having 2 cameras that can remove the background & get better depth perception.
You have buttons on move controllers: on the paper it seems like a better, more gamer oriented technology.If you still have to hold Move controllers (heck, oven the new gamepad has built in Move) like they showed in the video then this is nothing like Kinect. Much less Kinect 2.
hmmm..
Sony taps SoftKinetics 3D gesture recognition to bring motion-sensing games to PS4

Just Dance 2014
November 18, 2013 1:57 AM Dean Takahashi
SoftKinetic announced today that its gesture-recognition technology is being used to bring motion-sensing games to the PlayStation 4.
Brussels, Belgium-based SoftKinetic has provided its Iisu middleware to Ubisoft for its motion-sensing dance game Just Dance 2014 for the PlayStation 4. To play the game with gesture recognition, gamers have to buy the PlayStation Camera for the PS4, which went on sale last Thursday for $400. The camera costs an additional $60.
SoftKinetics Iisu middleware is a rival to Microsofts Kinect motion-sensing system for the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. SoftKinectic provides skeletal analysis and gesture recognition for developers who want to leverage the 3D tracking capability of the PS4′s camera. With Iisu, Just Dance 2014 can detect up to four players at a time. By comparison, Microsofts new Kinect can detect six players with the Xbox One version of the game.
The Iisu middleware works across platforms, including set-top boxes, smart TVs, PCs, laptops, and game consoles.
We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring our award-winning 3D gesture recognition middleware to game titles for the PS4, said Michel Tombroff, CEO of SoftKinetic. We recognize that the game developer community is one of the most technically-advanced ecosystems, and we have therefore been very dedicated to providing the most sophisticated technology for the PS4. We are confident that the 3D gesture recognition capabilities will not only meet, but exceed, that of any other gaming console on the market today.

Wikipedia on kinect:
640×480 pixels @ 30 Hz (RGB camera)
640×480 pixels @ 30 Hz (IR depth-finding camera)
Kinect has a frame rate of 30fps
Looks like PS 4 Eye is an enhanced version just based on these quick specs from wikipedia
Bruh, you seen this story yet?:
Link?!Yeah it's also a video of Gamespot ( I think) playing Just Dance on PS4 with the camera in the middle of a 4 hour PS4 live stream.
ops sorry....you guys was talking aboutthe first kinect ...ok then
