PS3 40GB Euro Doggystyle Edition™ OFFICIAL!

You know what is really entertaining; Those who try and find things to make this new SKU less valuable. The PS3 is still the best built, best tech console out there, period.

Yea, PS1 and PS2 bc items is like a very small part of PS3's value (small chips that are already cheap to sony somewhat). If I didn't have PS3 and wanted one bad enough but couldn't pony up the now $500 for it, I'd go for the $400 in a flash. $500 was a good thing a few months ago, and if this $400 thing is true, even better. Good thing for everyone.

When did BC become such a big deal all of a sudden? I was always a big proponent of BC but everyone said, 'why do I need BC when I already have the system?'

NOW all of a sudden it's an END OF THE WORLD scenario that will have CATASTROPHIC events if a 40Gb model has no BC. Give me a break. If you want it you get the model that has it (even if it means paying a higher premium).

Having a non BC 40Gb SKU will NOT mean the end of BC as we know it!

I agree, I just hope Sony doesn't make all their models non-BC in the future if this is true.

Isn't it pretty obvious? Sony is now where MS was 2 years ago for BC: doing it all software. Except none of the XBox 1 components had the ridiculous bandwidth requirements that GS has with it's embedded RAM. On paper, none of the old components physically exceed the bandwidth of the 360 chips. So given the right BC software, a "perfect" BC is still in the realm of possibility.

That's not the case with the 40GB PS3. eDRAM on the GS had bandwidth that exceeds the bandwidth available on the RSX via the GDDR3. So it's a much tougher row to hoe. Good fucking luck with that Sony BC team....

You sure told them. Let them worry about the BC. Whether it's in or out, this new lower price is a good thing. That is the main point of this thread. Now please do not stray by trying to take this thread in a different direction.

Personally, I think BC is a big to do about nothing. PS2 will be $99 soon and still very much alive. It won't matter much to PS3's success or failure.

All I was doing was noting the weird turn of events on BC for this gen, that's all.

Haha, you've got to be kidding me.

I'm loving my 360 right now but it ABSOLUTELY blows for BC. I've had 2 games actually playable, the rest either aren't BC capable (Panzer Dragoon) or are complete messes (KOTOR, Fable, etc).

Sony did BC right with both the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB models. The hardware is near perfect and the software is damn close to the hardware. All of this allows upscaling and smoothing for any game.

So they also took out the GS chip?
That's the rumor right now. AGAIN, NOTHING IS TOTALLY CONFIRMED!!
yeah but pretty much is now ;)

I don't remember saying 360 BC r0XX0rs yer boxxers. I do remember saying that 40GB PS3 BC will suck even more than 360's BC.

And do you really want a scenario where hardware BC PS3s outnumber the software BC PS3s in the market? :P

Actually I don't care because I have a PS3 that does near perfect BC right now and even goes beyond with upscaling to 1080p and smoothing.

My 360 does shit all for BC. I can play Halo and Halo 2, that's it. If I somehow start enjoying games running at 10-15fps, then I have Fable and KOTOR to play.

Feel special 'cause now you will be the few privileged hardware BC PS3 owners.

Alright, no arguments here. This is still a good thing for SNE to get these consoles out there and move the software. They are taking the risks. With the new IPO, I hope things work out for them. The stable of games on the way is staggering so, so rest assured, your investment will not be for naught.

Because software BC will never ever work. I see. Also if it never does work, the early adopters finally got better hardware function rather than hardware functions getting better after revisions (but will be more efficient than launch units no doubt).

I don't care about BC. I have a PS2, and I much prefer playing the games off my HD loader anyway. Playing PS2 games on my HDTV isn't as offensive to me then it is to everyone else, so again, I don't care. If they can get me a ps3 for cheap, and it still has Blu ray and wifi, count me in.

It will probably work as well as the 360 BC (probably a bit worse because of the bandwidth issues of the GS eDRAM).
IO respect your opinion but man, please do not take this thread into that direction. Geez.

BTW I meant IO

Logic, can you spare some for those with lower IQ's than the number of limbs on their bodies.

So you will get the 40 gig?

No BC can be as bad as 360. Even not having BC is better than 360 BC because personally, every time I try to play an XBox game on 360, I end up wanting to shoot my brains out.

No doubt.

Not yet shog, but soon, myes soon mwahahaha.

I can't live without owning all the systems. Although, I could probably live without the PSP.:lol

You can live without owning Crisis Core? Fission Mailed!

So if this drop happens world wide, the PS3 40g will be a darn good value. For the price of 2 Wii's you get a blu ray player, HD gaming, sony first party games, ffxiii next next year, mgs next year, HDD, wi-fi(?), dvd player, and other little things - possible no ps2 bc. Awesome value so soon since launch. Next step, $260 price!

I own one a white one already. I do like the look of the baby blue slim though.

Anyway, I played Crisis Core last year, and to be honest, I absolutely LOATHE FF7 so even though the game seemed kind of fun, I'm totally uninterested.

Well, then go buy more games for it!

Although, FF7CC shouldn't be used as a justification to own a PSP. It has a lot better games than that.

Wishful thinking is strong on this one... First of all software BC on PS3 is excellent, ask europeans, you won't find many of them complaining even a bit. Second you don't know if 40GB PS3 has BC or not. Third X360's BC fucking sucks and it's an insult being compared to PS3's software or hardware BC.

I'm just going by the rumor, buddy. Like everyone else in this thread.

Sony's problem in selling hardware has nothing to do with backwards compatibility. They need to get a more casually priced SKU and more PS3 games out there.

If that means sacrificing BC in order to expand the userbase and lure in more third party developers to make more games, then so be it.

You are making a mountain out of an ant hill.
