When the PS3 was revised to not include the EE, the previous PS3 stopped being produced.
When this new PS3 with no GS is in production, why would Sony keep making the more expensive one?
They probably have the satisfactionary difference now from Sony's perspective.Fatghost said:When this new PS3 with no GS is in production, why would Sony keep making the more expensive one?

So he's getting a PS3 40gig for $250 and 5 blu ray movies XD.
Ploid 3.0 said:He's darn lucky. They lowered it to $100 and he checked to see if his was still at $150 and it was.
I hope that not ture. I want a PS3 for $400 but I also want it to be backwards compatibility. I have to many PS2 games. I have around 180 PS2 games. and my old PS2 is starting to go out.Teddman said:Now that rumble's back, it turns out that the SixAxis tilt won't work with backwards compatibility. That feature is so last gen anyway.
Manmademan said:not exactly. By using two SKUs that cost pretty much the same to produce, Sony can bring in higher margins (read: profit) from the higher priced sku by appealing to the hardcore.
You don't think microsoft has 4 SKUs out for no reason, do you?

Fatghost said:Yeah but essentially all those 360 skus are the same hardware. Premium and Elite are the same boards now, core doesn't have HDMI but I don't think core is being made, MS probably has tons of cores lying around waiting to be sold since it only ever accounted for 20% or so of 360s sold.
The other difference is case color and HDD, other stuff packed in the retail box (cables and controller).
Fafalada said:You're connecting all the wrong dots Shog. GS emulation is every bit as hard (actually I would say harder) for Xenos as it is for RSX, even though based on your paper stats it should be no problem since it has the "bandwith" to satisfy your requirements.
The hard parts aren't in the bandwith - but then I'm sure you read my (and few other peoples) numerous posts on this subject at B3D, so I'm not gonna repeat myself here.
That said, you're also assuming a lot if you think that GS-less SKU will come out and THEN the BC teams will start thinking about what to do with it.
It's the same old repeat of Euro launch when everyone was acting like Sony just conjured the EE emulator out of nothing and dropped it in 2 weeks before Europe launch.

Manmademan said:as far as we know the upcoming 40 as well as the EU60 and US80 are using the same hardware as well. Only the US 60 gig was noticeably different, and that's being phased out.
the HDDs in the PS3's are swappable, I don't think it really makes a difference what size they are- the core of the unit is most likely identical between all three.

If you want to play PS3 games but don't feel like paying the premium, congratugoddamnlations, here's a system tailor made for you. If this iteration comes without BC, then boothefuckhoo, it's obviously designed specifically to offer a PS3 option for those on a budget. You can't always have everything.

BTW, after this I don't want to hear any of you usual suspects blasting MS over their decisions to leave out various components. Good for the goose, etc etc.
Of course, if the missionary position IS included with the new PS3 sku, all bets are off.
In defense of the usual suspects, whatever PS3 console you end up buying, you will have the 100% full PS3 experience and the 100% full Blu-ray experience.bishoptl said:BTW, after this I don't want to hear any of you usual suspects blasting MS over their decisions to leave out various components. Onix said:Out of curiousity, what things has MS left out that people made a big deal out of?
The only one I can think of is the HDD for the core. IMO, that is a VERY different situation, since it fractures the actual 360 market from a dev standpoint.
