Amir0x said:yes, they confirmed they're releasing an adapter. It's on the PS3 US site. You will DEFINITELY be able to transfer your saves.

Then click on the appropriate question. You must copy your PSOne/PS2 saved data to a 'virtual memory card' on the HDD, which you can do via an adapter that will be sold alongside PS3.

All 8 cores? there should be 9.![]()
I guess you know but incase, the PS3 version of Cell is supposed to have 7 SPUs and 1 PPU(= 8 cores).
He was talking about enabled cores
There are only 8 enabled cores
yes, and that's what i was saying...There are 9 core if you include enabled and disabled
he would - but it also looked odd that he said "_ALL_ 8 Cores enabled".If he had said all 9 cores enabled he would definitely be wrong, right?
yup, pretty much!So now he is wrong for saying all 8 cores enabled or not saying 'all 8 cores enabled and of course the 1 redundant core making it 9 cores but still onlly 8 cores enabled'
Wollan said:I said it had 8 cores of which 7 of them are SPUs. Even if the 9th core is working it won't get used.

I thought that :
physically its designed as 1 PPU + 8 SPUs
to increase yields , it can handle 1 SPU not working (the redundancy bit)
so the cell is fabbed with 8 SPUs + 1 PPU, but the system only utilises 7 (with 1 supposedly locked for OS - so 6)
meaning that the machine has 9 cores in it , but 8 are used.
or maybe i'm talking out of my big fat arse... i dunno, it's late here and i've been coding all fricken day.

I used to be pissed off with the cynicism and fanboy rants on here, but there are some threads, like this, that are just pure gold.
Merely the *idea* that Sony have a viral marketer that throws in one little rant post, and it creates this... its just a wonderful thing to behold.
My, TGS week is going to be crazy.

For those lucky enough to recieve 9 viable cores... will their PS3s have the benefit of a redundancy for the SPE? Perhaps.
Most likely, they'll take some of the 9 core CELLs and use them for some specialised product that requires the 8 SPEs, while using the CELLs with 5 or 6 SPEs in less advanced CE products, like say... a flatscreen TV, or a handycam.
DC, there was a rumor a while back (though it was moronic) that the SPEs in the PS3's CELL were melting and exploding and so on, so the number would be cut down. I'm pretty sure that comment was addressing that rumor.
well - it then brings up the "wow - perhaps those killzone things are real! holyshit - i better not buy any rival products if that's true!" angle - and whilst it obviously stirred the pot , i think early adopters have already decided whether they are buying or not at this point. If that guy is a viral marketer, then that begs the question; how much of it is true and what does Sony have to gain by releasing incorrect information interspersed with correct information?
DCharlie said:is this usage of cells else where in a wide spread fashion ever going to happen? I assume Cell production is well underway, yet this "cell in tvs!" "Cell in toasters" etc doesn't seem to be happening at all.
I know it's used in some military and medical capacity - but i've not seen it anywhere near the capacity suggested it would be used. :/

I could give him benefit of the doubt about LAIR and Oblivion. Anyway LAIR will make an appearance at TGS soon, so we will check out.
Funny though is the guy has more things right that Massive_Attack could have ever dreamed of...

If you look beyond the hyperbole and bits of exaggeration, this guy definitely knows quite a bit... and regarding the claim above, I've been hearing from a few sources something very similar. Should make for a huge TGS announcement if it happens during the show.Pimpwerx said:Asked about Final Fantasy news:

TGS should be the megaton, I can't wait, when is it ~15th Sept?

-AM2 doesn't make it
-PS3 port shares the same devloper and GPU maker
-360 port is outsourced and on entirely differing hardware
-PS3 port started earlier than 360 port
-It's only 1GB, texturing and all
-99% chance the PS3 version will ship on a BD9, if available
-Both PS3/360 are fully capable of 100% perfect ports

I just don't know. I wasn't given technical information that specific on the RSX. I'm pretty sure Sony wants to focus on pumping up their Cell technology instead of a licensed 3rd party GPU. Somebody did make an off-hand comment one night that the Cell is doing almost all the graphics work, with the GPU only handling specific graphics related tasks (which I'm guessing is mostly post effects like HDR, etc). It's ultimately up to developers how they utilize what they are given to work with... but I just don't know the final clock speeds on that.

I’m not going to share specs with you because they aren’t really that important. I think Iwata said something like that when asked the same question. All three consoles are going to be very powerful, trust me. I’ll give you some information though: it will be more powerful than the Xbox 360. Much more powerful.
