PS3 Firmware 3.60 Patches Security Holes

'Cell Access' was neutered to the point of being useless anyway.

It wasn't limited in the slightest, linux had all the access to the Cell PS3 game devs did.

RSX, on the other hand, was mostly blocked off.

Shrink wrap licenses, bullet points in the box agreements.

Coming next: You looked at the ps3 and that is a vision agreement. You own it all to the corp, better shut up and enjoy it.

The cloud saving is interesting, though I was annoyed that I could not do a multifile upload all at once.

Though I'm not terribly clear about it. Is it just for backup? can games now be written to directly save into the cloud ala Steam?

Not yet, Sony is working on it.

You basically have to overwrite your save on the cloud when you have a newer save, only takes a couple of seconds so it ain't a huge problem.

Ugh, I really don't want to get dragged into this again, but let's have one of those hated analogies!

"It's the Libyan protesters' fault that there's a bloody war going on in that country!"
If Geohot hadnt showed the exploit, then i think OtherOS wouldnt have been removed from the PS3 Phat models. I would say that it is more like "if there were no problems in Libya to begin with, then it wouldnt be much need to protest". Unless not having OtherOS on PS3 Slim is being defined as a problem though :P I belive that is the reason Geohot gave for doing the exploit, that OtherOS wasnt on PS3 Slims.

But OtherOS was already on the PS3 Phats, so why risk it by showing that it could be used for exploiting the PS3 security system? The PS3 EULA (legal or not) does afterall says that features can be removed if it is being seen as necessary, so i would say that it was somewhat a risk to show that OtherOS could be used for exploits. Maybe he thought that OtherOS would never be removed from the PS3 Phats regardless though, i think many thought that it would never be removed.

Aside from security updates, cloud saving and more options to turn the DS3 off automatically, are there any other changes?

Friends List sorting got changed--no word if it was intentional.

You may regret that if your PS3 dies.

No response to my previous post? Classic.

Anyway, why would you regret not using cloud saving when your Ps3 dies? You can still transfer saves from the HDD either way.

So what? It's a start. Not like some premium members don't even get that option for paying for like 5+ years of service for online only.

Actually, the 360 has had limited cloud saving since day one for both Gold and Silver members, but that's totally besides the point because this is a thread about PS3 and there's absolutely no reason to bring console warrior shit into the thread. Especially when you've been banned 7 times, 4 of which were for console warrior garbage.

Only if you had made a backup before hand. A PS3 drive's contents can only be accessed by the system for which it was formatted.

Locked saves can't be backed up via the HDD only via the Cloud.

Comgenie's Awesome file manager let me access data from the HDD in my dead 60gb when I hooked it up via USB.

Wait... what? You put the PS3 HDD in a USB enclosure and you can access it using Comgenie's on another PS3?

Fair enough. Sorry about thought I'd do some comparing since Steam users seem to love comparing and such.

All I'll say is, it's great Sony seems in control of the situation but it's gonna be a tough battle on every FW they release. I'm sure they slow some of the hackers out there but there is always a way in the back. Lol.

As for new features, hope they keep them coming.

Can you tell us what the video is of? I'm not clicking any links in a PS3 security related thread. I don't blame Sony but that doesn't mean I'm going to step into the crossfire either.

Some guy doing his best geohot impression with a launch North American PS3. He's got firmware 3.60 installed on his PS3. He demonstrates the install custom app function and shows that it's firmware 3.60 by showing the PlayStation Plus save folder.
