PS3 FW 4.00 removes PSP copy functionality for installed PSone/Minis

I'm back to using my PC and Media Go as my PSP fridge. But they updated Media Go recently as well and it broke some things... Ended up losing a Star Ocean save over it. Was near the end of the game too. Dammit.

You can install them after redownloading them, since the installation file remains on the XMB after the installation (so you can use this file in order to copy the content on the PSP/PS Vita).

huh? I thought the install bubble disappears after installing? Is this one of the things they changed in 4.0 too? Is it only for Vita/PSP compatible content like minis/PS1/PSP games?

Huh, now that I look I see saves aren't in Media Go anymore, though they ARE on the computer still.

... Why are you fucking everything up Sony? :(

It's pretty fucking scary how closed and walled PS4 will be. Like a fucking fortress that only accepts your CC.

PS3 to PS4 will be like, dunno, PC to Mac?

Probably more like PC to iPad at this rate. I'd lament that this is what happens when people abuse an open system, but it seems more an example of what happens when you fail to keep a system as secured as you should have.

EDIT: Nevermind, you just click on games then Saved Data. Wouldn't have surprise me with Sony as of late though if they had neutered it.

This is pretty weird.

Maybe it's to prevent people with CFW buying games on PSN, using the PS3 to install, and then transferring over to PSP without a "You cannot play this game. Update firmware"? I don't really know how that works.

I don't know, every time you copy from PS3 to PSP there is an online check that verifies if your PSP is linked to your account and if Firmware is not updated doesn't let you copy

It doesn't anymore for items you can play on both PSP and PS3. After you install them, the bubble stays there so you can move those items to a PSP later since installed items can't be copied anymore.

I noticed this, too. What a crock.

I can understand the need to redownload to have some MD5 check for security, but... not auto-installing PSP/Minis is horseshit. At least let PS+ auto-reupdate these things.

Great another update that takes away features from my PS3. Not that this effects me in any way, but seriously, does Sony ever add features with their updates?

So it s not as world ending as we thought then?

Only things left to complain about is the re-downloading of all your stuff to get these "new" bubbles.

Not being able to place said bubbles in a folder.

Why do you say that? Because you can have more than 32 install bubbles? That's STILL terrible. We shouldn't even have to keep one.

Well its like they are making the bubbles no different from the installed version since they will stay after you install. *shrug*

The problem now is that you cant move them to a custom folder or if there is a speed difference between install bubble to psp and installed game to psp.

I don't think I've ever seen it smaller than the actual game. But boy do I love redownloading stuff and fragmenting my HDD

That's the old bubble format or the new format ?

I have seen comments that the PS3 filesystem auto-defrags itself before it shuts down.

If the system crashes, it will also do a disk check now.

...and not being able to transfer an installed game

The installed app/game may be tied to the PS3. Copying to another device won't work if this is the case.

Unless the app is written for Playstation Suite (Mono bytecode ?), it may not be playable across platform. The other apps/games (PSOne, PS2, etc.) may be tied to native architecture too.

I WOULD recommend using Media Go simply because it's a convenient way to keep your saves backed up. Even if you had no plans to store games on there the saves should easily fit on most modern computers as long as you don't copy installs over too.

Oh hey, fancy seeing you here ^.^

I used Media Go for years and found that it was alright; if nothing else, the download speeds were much better than using the PSP or PS3 over the same connection. It's going to become much more of a requirement now that Vita is removing the ability to present itself as mass storage.

yes. as in, making you do something you've already done once, & not arranging for a folder when setting the whole thing up. not world ending, just randomly half-assed :) ...

Last thing the games column needs is another permanent folder, we've got what, four different saves folders plus game data? I'd rather just make my own for stuff I want to keep. If they make a new folder for install bubbles, everyone will wonder where the game they just bought went...

They should at least allow you to assign an album name to installs so that they won't be sticking out on top of everything in the Game column.

I used Media Go back when it came out, it wasn't too bad.

The biggest problem with it, especially if Sony wants people to use it going forward, is the lack of Mac support. Come on Sony, it's not 1999 anymore.

I couldn't figure out why Corpse Party would not install a few nights ago. Now I discover that my beautifully organized folder of installed PSP games is worth exactly jack shit. I recently jumped to PS3 because I was growing tired of all the MS bullshit but I guess it is just a race to the bottom on both sides.

EDIT: And I can't copy over my PSX games? Come the fuck on!

Redownloads ahoy!

Really? They've added a shitload of features in the many updates (and taken quite a few things away, obviously).

EDIT: They're adding an XMB link to buy a memory card? WTF!

So the old installs will still be useless, right? Cause I already deleted them and would be greatly annoyed if they fixed that. If it's just letting us sort installers now, then that's good. Still think Sony should've informed us of any incoming changes though. Doing it without doing so is pretty scummy.

Oh and lol at that second change.

Good thing I don't have a bandwidth cap, or I'd be even more pissed about having to redownload all of my PSP games, and download an extra copy of all my PS1 games.

Wait, so that was a "joke"? Seriously? I've never been the type to call for bans, but this is one time I would if I was the type.

I guess I didn't really think we were at the stage where people would not only believe that Sony's only solution to install package clutter is "buy a bigger memory card", but that they'd put out a firmware update to just add a link to their shop to buy one.

I swear to god its like they want to piss people off as some sick game.

I reckon in about 10 years time, business classes will do case studies on Sony circa 2006-2012

The way I read it was "fixed the option for sorting, and then added a link to buy memory cards". The link thing sounds dumb, but I could totally believe it coming from Sony.

how could that not be a joke?

Oh, no, he wrote "the complete changelist is as follows" as in, the link to the high capacity stick fixes the problem.

Well, that wasn't the intention. It was supposed to read like "Don't worry, we've got a solution. Here's the change list"

Sweet, I've been waiting for an XMB link to buy Memory Stick Pro Duos!
