PS3 vs. x360 exclusive games/series

It’s a matter of personal opinion that some people prefer PS3’s games over 360’s games or vice versa. The one thing that can be said is that MS toward the middle and end of the 360’s life cycle it felt like they abandon that hardcore games and went all out with Kinect. By that time PS3 was finally coming into its own and coming out at full force with great exclusives, and that why in my opinion I found the PS3 exclusive games better. I also give credit to Sony for investing and giving us some experimental games that I loved like Heavy Rain.

Not gunna lie, I've had more fun playing The Impossible Game than 50% of major titles that I've bought.
That's also available on PS minis. Playable on PS3, PSP and Vita. I guess PS4 too?

It may seem obvious, but not all games that showed up on one or the other platform first have remained exclusive. Goes the same for all ranges of games, from indiest indie to octuple-A.

What I learned is that there is no vast superiority of Sonys lineup. Sure more of their lineup comes from 1st/2nd party, which is better for the company but not necessarily for the customer. Microsoft covers most bases (besides JRPGs) even if a lot of that comes from paid exclusives rights/exclusive partnerships.

If (big IF) they are able to keep the likes of Insomniac, Respawn and Crytec on their list exclusively and 343, Lionhead or Rare actually do not completely ruin their IPs the statement of a diverse lineup isn't that far off.

Their real problem is that they need to keep pumping out money to achieve that, which is really bad now they are in their 3rd gen. Also they need to be fast to come up fast with some great games on shelves and not just announced for 2015/2016.

That bolded quote makes no sense.

From Microsoft in the last few years for the 360 we've gotten Gears of War Judgement, Halo 4, Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey, Halo: CEA, Forza 4, Gears 3. There isn't much variety in that selection of games.

No I'm being serious...

Nothing in the PS3's library particularly interests me. I'm sure there are some excellent games that others will enjoy however none of them really grab my attention.

There's also the fact that Halo is by far and away my favourite series ever. No games even come close. I am most certainly a Halo fanboy, but that's because I have played and loved every single one more so than pretty much any other game.

This is why these list wars are completely pointless; You could give me a list of any on the PS3's games and I would point to Halo. No games are equal and thus you can't compare lists of exclusives. People like different games more than others. The only real comparison you can make between different consoles is the quality of multiplats. The 360 was better than the PS3 in this regard, and the PS4 is a lot better than the X1.

However the PS4 doesn't have Halo so it automatically loses for me :P

That's fair since you've stated that it's just a personal preference for you and not a reflection of which system actually has the better overall exclusive lineup.

It's the reverse for me. The Last of Us on its own destroys the entire 360 lineup. TLOU is my favorite game of all time. The Uncharted series also surpasses anything on the 360 from my point of view.

Sony had quality and quantity, it wasn't even close tbh. After 2008, PS owners kept getting a hot new title month after month while 360 gamers were enjoying multi plats.

I think all this thread proves is that you've really got to own all the consoles + handhelds + PC if you're kind of serious about this hobby.

Ah ok, I mis read

I'm not saying that either console has better IP's, just that when you think sony you think uncharted, god of war, and gran turismo, and it's only of late that sony has really been fostering this apporach, building in rcognition with killzone and infamous. Microsoft has been doing a better job of building their brand recognition in their games from the get go, when you think xbox, you think Halo, gears, forza, fable. They're more tied to the brand, and microsoft has also done a better job of pushing a cross media support with their blue-dragon anime and viva pinata cartoons.

Same goes with their IP ownership. I think titles like mechwarrior, age of empires, and flight simulator, have more recognition to the general gaming public simply because of their tradition in pc gaming. It's actually quite stupid that microsoft didn't buy titan fall and turn it into a battletech franchise, mechassault would've been a perfect fit.

Who cares, by that time there was more than enough quality titles from third parties to enjoy. It doesn't come close to the empty void that was the first few years of the PS3's life. I'd much rather have the console makers front load their support while 3rd parties ramp up their next gen development.

This has always been Sony's MO. It worked well against Nintendo but against Microsoft they need to do better. They badly need a top tier FPS franchise. Killzone has always been decent, but never great. They need great.

If you expand upon the OP's guidelines and ignore niche Japanese games and smaller exclusives – then remove "so-so" exclusives as well – you're really only left with:

360:
- Halo
- Gears
- Forza
- Mass Effect (for most of the gen)

PS3:
- Uncharted
- The Last of Us
- God of War
- Gran Turismo

...I dunno. 360 takes it IMO.

What are defining as "so-so" exclusives metacritic or sales? Because if we're talking sales then I'm sure that Forza is in the same selling bracket as Killzone for example.

Yea let's ignore Demons Souls, the best last gen exclusive on PS3, 360 or Wii.

Exclusive games I enjoyed a lot and would consider personal highlights of that console ( I know some of them are on the PC too but I played them first on the 360 :P)

360:
Alan wake ( probably in my top 4 games from last gen, sogood)
L4D2 ( much much much better on the PC when I got the PC version, still enjoyed it alot on the 360)
Forza Horizon ( didn't play much but the time I spent I enjoyed a lot)

PS3:
The last of us ( the best)
Resistance 2 ( mainly the co op, spent many hours in it)
Killzone 2
Uncharted 2
Demon fucking souls ( 2nd to TLOU for the best)
GT5 ( shuffle races with everyday cars was one of my highlights in term of on-line gaming)

If Mass Effect stayed exclusive, I would have said Xbox360. But Naughty Dog did something cool with the Last of Us that turned the PS3 into a winner.

People can repeat this till the end of time but it won't make it true.

Yeah a lot of the IPs just don't match up to their PS3/360 "counterpart", so just doesnt work.

All I can say is in the "big days" when I only had a 360, the only exclusives that appealed to me were Fable (Though only the 2nd one), Halo, Gears of War (Lost interest after 3). Also got Banjo Kazooie, Viva Pinata, but Viva Pinata I didnt care about, Banjo Kazooie I thought was cool too, but hasnt really turned into a series on Xbox yet, just a one off so far, maybe soon for X1...
The biggest thing for 360 for me was Halo 3 (Maybe Halo Reach too), but Halo 3 espicially as I can say its the funnest experience online I've had with custom games, forge, etc, but no Halo since has beat that or even got on par with that sadly.

While for PS3, when I finally got a PS3, there were a TON of exclusives, and I feel they simply offer experiences 360 didn't offer and perhaps what no other console can offer. Things like Heavy Rain, Journey, Unfinished Swan, The Last of Us, God of War 3, Uncharted, just to name some of my personal highlights. There definitely isnt any counter part for these games on an Xbox console, and if there is, certainly not to the same standard as these games push the bar to.

There are some games like this which are true for Xbox's case too. Fable for example, can't think of anything close to a "counterpart" for the PS3 there, shame that seems to have gone downhill since 3 though sadly. Alan Wake I guess too, though may not be a continuing series exactly.

For me personally anyway, PS trashes Xbox when it comes to exclusives. Last gen it may not have been such a big deal since 360 had the "definitive" multi-plats to back that up, this gen however, its not even the same, the PS4 is getting the definitive simply down to more power and X1 can never escape that fate now, so will be interesting to see what they do.

What are defining as "so-so" exclusives metacritic or sales?

Both, I suppose. Though quality is what I had in mind when I made that post.

People bought consoles for Halo, Gran Turismo, Forza, God of War, etc. Killzone? Crackdown? Infamous? Fable? Not so much. Those were decent feathers in the cap, but they didn't sell many consoles on their own.

Yea let's ignore Demons Souls, the best last gen exclusive on PS3, 360 or Wii.

Demon's Souls, good as it is, was still pretty damn niche. The Souls series is starting to hit mainstream now but that wasn't the case with the first game.

I think the op meant that the ps3 really only has one exclusive, The Last of Us, and even that is highly overrated/would not play again.

AMIRITE?

Anyone?

No?

...

No need for list. PS3 destroys 360, that's just so obvious today.

Now let's see how PS4 VS XBO does. XBO has a stronger line up for the moment.

I hate list wars threads like this because they always leave out arcade shmups out of the discussion.

Sure I get that not alot of ppl play them but the fact that it is probably THE genre that the 360 has the most exclusives, it needs to be brought up in discussion more.

I don't get how Forza sold systems but Killzone 2 didn't, that was critically acclaimed as well as selling not much less than Forza, if wiki is to be believed.

Demon Souls is a tale of Sony dropping the ball, that game had a load of imports but Sony still wouldn't localise it, it took Namco to roll up their sleeves and get shit done.

I'll take Halo and Gears over everything on that list. This thread is point less one console having better exclusives is all subjective

I found that the PS3 had a lot of "okay" exclusives like Killzone, Resistance, LBP, etc.. while the 360 focused more on a few heavy hitter franchises like Halo, Gears, and Forza.

The 360 used to have some great console exclusives like Mass Effect and Bioshock early on. Microsoft basically stopped caring after 2010.

Pretty much how I feel.

You say quality is what you based your post on and then you say you don't have certain good games in your post because they don't sell consoles... So which is it? Sales or quality?

The Wii has the best games I played the last gen, even if the hardware was not that great the games were amazing.

Yep. Without a doubt. PS3 beats out 360 for me though, even though I think a lot of Sony firstparty is incredibly overrated, the PS3 still had Demons Souls (best exclusive on the HD twins), 3D Dot Game Heroes, Yakuza, lots of great jrpgs and MGS4.

I've always felt the PS3 appealed to me more exclusive-wise as I'm not a big fan of shooters/sim racers and, unfortunately, that's where the 360 exclusives excelled. There were some I really liked mind you (especially Lost Odyssey) but the PS3 just had more games I wanted to play.

I...mmmm... don't really get most of those comparisons.

Fable is like heavy rain?
Alan Wake and Demon Souls?
Kameo Heavenly Sword?

Anyway. The exclusives I like from both consoles:

360:
- Gears Franchise
- Halo Franchise
- Lost Odyssey
- Alan Wake? ("?" because it's also on PC, and better at that)
- Crackdown 1
- Left 4 Dead? ("?" because it's also on PC, and better at that))

Ps3:
- Uncharted Franchise
- Yakuza Franchise
- Valkyria Chronicles
- Demon Souls
- Killzone Franchise
- The Last of US
- God of war III (not "franchise" because I didn't like ascension)
- MGS 4
- Ni No Kuni
- Infamous Franchise
- Heavy Rai
- Twisted Metal (yes, I'm the 1 guy that actually liked the new one)

Definitely Ps3 for me

But anyway we all know the Wii had the best exclusives last gen:

-list-

If we are talking about pure exclusives, maybe. But when you consider there are plenty of games only available on PS360 and not found on PC/Wii like Bayo, RDR, Vanquish, Hard Corp Uprising, Dragon Dogma < insert various fighting games> etc, then the two HD twins are better.

In my opinion of course.

Sony and Microsoft both need to step up their first party efforts quite a bit. Third parties supply nearly all the best games for both systems. You could make a case that Nintendo is more of an outlier, and that Sony and MS shouldn't be held to that standard, but Sega was very competitive with Nintendo from a software perspective. So that's the standard that I think Sony/MS should be held to.

That being said, in terms of the best exclusives for the 360 and PS3 I'd probably split it up like this.

PS3:
Ni No Kuni
Wipeout HD
Various Ratchet and Clank games
Demon's Souls
Blazblue Chrono Phantasma (When it releases in the US)

Too much of the Sony first party library consists of cinematic or presentation focused games, which do not interest me. Uncharted/David Cage games/MGS 4/Killzone etc do nothing for me. Ni No Kuni is pretty ace though, as is Wipeout HD.

Xbox 360
Musihimesama Futari
Deathsmiles
DoDonPachi Daifukatsu
Espgaulda II
DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou
Ninja Gaiden II (The sigma remakes really aren't of the same quality)
Various Gears of War games
Tetris the Grand Master (Haven't played the 360 version, but if it's close to the arcade version it's definitely noteworthy)
Forza series
Dance Central series

Not much from first party, but the 360 has a really great Japanese and arcade oriented lineup if you know where to look.

XBLA is home to a bunch of amazing console exclusives. Games like the two Mutant Storms, Rez HD, both Geometry Wars, Guardian Heroes, Trials HD, Cave shmups, Omega V...

But as a whole, the PS3 trumps the 360 for exclusives. PSN has its fair share of great exclusives. And outside of Halo, the retail exclusives on the PS3 are way more impressive. Not least because the PS3 is home to the GOTG in Demon's Souls.

I've only ever used my PS3 as a Gran Turismo 5/6 machine and I've had it since 2010. I've played a bit of Uncharted 2 on it and completed it on another console, but Xbox has the best exclusives by far, there's a much more enjoyable library there for me.

There's only one Cave STG on XBLA. The rest are retail. Most of the STGs on 360 are retail outside of Cave, also.

I'm probably very much in the minority but I'm gonna go with the 360 by the narrowest of margins simply because of the fact that Halo and Gears had co-op campaigns. To me being able to play through the campaign with a friend is the number 1 factor in purchasing a game. I value co-op way above single player or competitive multiplayer.

That being said I have no intention of purchasing any more games for 360 but will still purchase at least three for the PS3 (Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Zestiria and Persona 5)

Why does everyone have to make a huge deal and bash the OP, it's tiring.

OP put in time and effort regardless, it may not be perfect but damn it's enough to start a conversation at least.

Anyways...

I can agree with the fact that PS3 has much more to play, it's just...I have a lot more fun with the xbox exclusives. That's just my preference.

Not a huge fan of Japanese games either OP, so I understand how listing them could have been difficult for you. Fuck all this negativity.

Original PS3 games/franchises I played and enjoyed:

Heavy Rain
Resistance 1-3
Killzone 2, 3
Journey
Flower
Uncharted 1-3
Tales of Xillia
Infamous 1,2, Festival of Blood
God of War 3
The Last of Us
Demon's Souls
Metal Gear Solid 4
Littlebigplanet 1, 2
Gran Turismo 5, 6
MLB: The Show series

and some HD collections:

God of War 1+2 HD Collection
Sly Collection
Jak & Daxter Collection
Ratchet & Clank Collection
Ico/Shadow of Colossus Collection

Xbox 360 series I played & enjoyed:

Halo series
Gears of War series
Forza series
Perfect Dark HD Port

I honestly can't think of anything else I played on my 360....I have a gaming PC so things like Alan Wake I played on that. I'm sure there's a big game/franchise I'm forgetting about - can someone think of other popular 360 franchises I might have missed?

Anyways, as you can tell from the list above I definitely got more out of the PS3 exclusives

It would've been better to just list the three consoles' exclusives (why the hell isn't the Wii on here, it probably has the best set of exclusives in the bunch) and not match them up.

It's pretty clear though that PS3 > 360. Microsoft just doesn't have the first party to match up to either Nintendo or Sony.

But anyway we all know the Wii had the best exclusives last gen:

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Twilight Princess
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Skyward Sword
Xenoblade Chronicles
Metroid Prime Trilogy/3
New Super Mario Bros.
Donkey Kong Country Returns (remake on 3ds)
Zack and Wiki
Little King Story (remake on Vita)
Sin and Punishment 2
Epic Yarn
Boom Blox Bash Party
Boom Blox
Punch Out
Tatsunoko v. Capcom
Super Paper Mario
Monster Hunter Tri
No More Heroes 2
MLB Power Pros (i guess it came out on ps2 too)
Wario Ware
Rhythm Heaven Fever
Trauma Team
Mario Kart Wii
de Blob
MadWorld
Wii Sports
Wii Sports Resort
Red Steel 2
Wii Fit/Plus
A Boy and His Blob
The Last Story
Metroid Other M
Silent Hill Shattered Memories (i guess it came out on psp and ps2 too)
Rune Factory Frontier
Blast Works
Sonic Colors
Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
Wario Land Shake It
Kirby Return to Dreamland
Endless Ocean
Endless Ocean 2
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
Ivy the Kiwi
Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces
Pandora's Tower
Epic Mickey
Animal Crossing City Folk
Deadly Creatures
Tenchu Shadow Assassins (also on psp)
The Conduit (lol)
Conduit 2 (lol)
Medal of Honor Heroes 2 (also came out on psp)
Fragile Dreams
Muramassa The Demon Blade (remake on Vita)

Not even going to start on WiiWare.

And then there were timed exclusives like Goldeneye 007, House of the Dead Overkill, Dead Space Extraction, Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles and No More Heroes 1.

I like this post. I have all 3 systems so I am not too fussed about which one is the best but the Wii definitely deserves a lot more consideration than it typically does in topics like these.

Kinda silly to exclude 'Japanese Stuff' while bringing up Gran Turismo.
It's kind of a problem going in with this idea because while I'd still give the edge based on western stuff it's really the Japanese stuff that makes a huge difference, and makes it clear where to go depending on tastes.

Well, missing the like of Vesperia would be no good and Blue Dragon/Lost Odyssey are still some of the better console JRPGs this gen, so fitting in both is really ideal. Just PS3 should be a higher priority if those are your tastes.

People can repeat this till the end of time but it won't make it true.

I wonder. The same could be said to you.

Yep. I mainly bought my PS3 for Square Enix games, MGS and other RPGs. I'm basically an RPG nut. Of course I don't exclude WRPGs like Skyrim and Mass Effect but fortunately for me they were also released on the PS3.

There's only one Cave STG on XBLA. The rest are retail. Most of the STGs on 360 are retail outside of Cave, also.

I see from Google you're right. I know I own Deathsmiles digitally, but I've now remembered that was Games on Demand, not XBLA. Still my point stands.

A lot of the 360 games you posted aren't exclusive to the 360.

Ever heard of a thing called a PC? I'm pretty sure that's where I played most of those "360 exclusives."

I would suck so much dick to get lost odyssey on pc, its UE3 anyways!

also infinite undiscovery or blue dragon. shit, blue dragon is using the same exact frontend even!
