A question for Wangan buffs. Who developed Maximum Tune? I always thought it was Namco, but my friend is saying it's always been Genki? I've just never seen Genki's name anywhere on MT, can anyone clarify? Also, yay Maximum Tune 3 this year.

Namco is the developer for the Maximum Tune series of Wangan Midnight.
 
I'm all about this game. I've had it pre ordered from Play Asia for ages...I wish it was more like Maximum Tune in the arcade but I'm down for Wangan in general.

If they released Initial D with online support I wouldn't know what to do with myself...

Lets not play around...ID4 on PS3...I can't see Sega releasing it on J-360...and if they did...I'd be forced to get said J-360 just to play....
 
Is there any word of a demo coming out? The game is being released thursday, but I'm on the fence about it. If it's a lot more arcade racer and less sim, I'll be all over it.

From the trailer, it looks to be an arcade style racer as you can take turns at full speed.

It looks more like Need for Speed: Carbon but stripped down so it's just arcadey racing. It probably isn't enough for a purchase unless you like the show.

Guys, it's made by Genki. It's also not the first Wangan Midnight game from them...it's a modified TOKYO XTREME RACER. That much is not a mystery.

I don't trust Genki anymore. Shutokou Battle on 360 looked like a PS2 game and only went at 30fps. :/

Sorry, I should have puts quote there, Lyte Edge wanted to get this if it wasn't a clone of Tokyo xtreme racer but it's looks like it is.

Yeah and with all that it was still fun as all hell... I swear you graphic prudes are a trip.
 
After playing and loving Test Drive Unlimited, I'm fully convinced that a game like WM needs an MMO multiplayer component. How's the online on this? Is it just lobby races?

I believe it's just lobby races with up to 4 players for a race...
 
So, what's the overall verdict on this game? I'm tempted to order it from yesasia along with Minna No Golf 5 (both are now in stock).

Then again, I saw the fist two episodes of the anime, so far it hasn't really hooked me quite yet like Initial D...

Yeah, too much about the actual cars and not the driver's skills.
 
I remember that Tokyo Xtreme game which I really liked (despite all the little foibles), but this doesn't seem to be like it (more arcadey rather than sim). :(
 
I loved Shutokou 1 and 2, but the PS2 versions were missing something. Driving around Nagoya was pretty fun, though. I was hoping they'd do a Wii version (sue me, all I own is a Wii), but how to do it without analog gas would be hard. Still, I'd pick up a Shutokou on the Wii in a heartbeat as long as they followed the formula of Shutokou 2.
