Except for the lighting and some sweat effect, not really that impressive if you ask me.

Somehow I feel like I should be excited by this news but I'm not, or at least I won't be until I see it in motion and it shows that they have completely ditched every single animation from Smackdown 1-3. Also they should eliminate the striking combos and streamline the grapples so that they don't feel so clunky and stiff.

SDvsRaw06 was a great game but it pissed me off how much good stuff they removed from the CAW, and how much shitty stuff that should've been replaced or reanimated was left in. Plus they screwed up the selling so much to the point that opponents woke up and moved before you could perform certain corner moves and every single top rope attack on a downed opponent.

It's gonna take more than shiny sweat and photorealistic looking chests to get me to run out and buy it, this I swear.

1) these are early test shots.
2) SDvsRAW06 doesn't look anywhere that good in motion. on a TV screen. I wish it did though.

This actually gets me really excited. Im a huge fan of SvR2006, even if I dont watch wrestling itself too much. They make great multiplayer games, plus its on the 360 now.

Cant wait for it

even the lighting isn't that great.

this game looks pretty weak.

textured hair?

looks like another "wait, why don't we stop working on this current-gen version, add some hires textures, up the lighting a notch, and call it a next-gen game?!?!!" effort.

What part of "early TEST images" are you not undertanding futami???
This game doesn't come out till late November (usually) so there's a LOT of development time yet.

ah crap...i just remembered...

to create custom soundtracks on Xbox, I used Music Mixer to transfer music files from my computer....

With the 360, you'll have to burn music to a cd then rip to the small HD :\

"Hey now...that was uncalled for "...

Anyway looks great, hope fully you can customize the wrestlers this year and I can put some damn pants on Randy Orton.

well, since this is coming to ps3, too, i guess i can pass judgement.

not impressed.

they look low poly, almost unchanged from this gen.

all they've done is bumped the texture res.

Are you for real? I think some people remember this gen's games being better than they really were, graphically. Unless by 'this gen' you mean this first batch of 360 games.

I think the character models look great, but the clothing outfits look really shitty in comparison.

Looks great for early shots.
This game is gonna rock harder than a boulder falling on a box of kittens!!!
Damnit now I really want to get an 360 hmmmmm how much better will this look and/or play on ps3 though.
But playing online with voice takes the cake I can't wait!

I can now pretend I'm the hulkster Brother! As I reign down the fury with My 24 inch pythons, WHAT YOU GONNA DOOOOO!!!

As a few people mentioned, the character models look great, but the clothing and lighting needs work. Hopefully they deal with the animation issue as well.

I like how JBL still has abs just like in the current generation version.
I like how there are no pics of JBL from this game and that those pics you're referring to are obviously from the last gen games.

You're officially disqualified from making any graphical judgement about anything in the future.

Haha shut the fuck up. Excuse me for not being able to tell one piece of crap from the next. The screen ratios and "vs" (duh) should have gave it away but I was literally minutes away from class, saw the thread and had to skim through it because I'm a big wrestling fan. The current gen games do look very similar in quality to these shots and I'll bet you that JBL will have abs in the game.

And Outcast2004 can just go back to studying his wrestling newsboards all day and replying to the wrestling threads in broken grammar and heavy caps. Thanks.

I want physics-based gameplay, damn it! If i try to powerbomb a guy through a table and i'm out of position, i want to see that guy's head smack on the edge of the table (or wherever he lands) realistically, not see the table magically go into position and the guy go straight down the middle every single time.

Wha? Just stream your music from your PC to your 360 with Media Connect. You don't have to burn shit.

These are decent looking for next gen material, recall if you will that smackdown 3 was a very ugly game but by smackdown 5 they cleaned it up quite nicely. I suspect that this one will be nothing but what you see here with some stripped away features and current gen animation quality. Expect Smackdown 2008 edition to have nicer looking models and just simply be a better game.

Now, this is comign from someone who dislikes the way these games play immensly but has seen alll of them anyway thanks to a friend.

I'm sorry but these shots don't look CRAZY better than what we've seen on the PS2 this generation. Those textures are weak. Maybe it all has to be in motion, with all the arena effects and shiz.

BTW, the MIDWAY won the TNA contact and designated the crappy "backyard wrestling" team to work on the game.

^^^^^^^
The BACKYARD WRESTLING team? :x There goes any chance of a decent game...Samoa Joe am cry.

Can anyone host some pics somewhere else? I can't see any of the pics in this thread at work.

What was the last one, Ultimate Muscle?

Yeah, Aki has been making the Kinnikuman/Ultimate Muscle games. The PSP version is the most recent release, and it rocks! :D

There's also a Kinnikuman arcade game that just came out, but I don't know if AKI developed it or not. It felt a bit different when I tried it; even more like a fighting game than a wrestling game.

Fixed.

If any series deserves criticism for not changing anything up year after year, it's Smackdown, moreso than the likes of Madden. THQ/Yukes take the most counterproductive route possible by creating uber-realistic character models and then showing them off in a decidedly non-realistic game engine--and I mean non-realistic even by wrestling logic.
When I actually play a Smackdown game--courtesy of a friend or relative, because I literally wouldn't pay ten dollars for such a thing--I'm never standing still enough to notice the texturing on John Cena's clothes or Rey Mysterio's mask or whatever else; I notice that most of the running strikes have no connecting animation, that the dodges are catch-all sidestep animations (as opposed to, say, the beautiful specialized counters in No Mercy: clothesline to armbar, spear to legscissors, back spin kick to ankle lock, dropkick to getting swatted down, etc.), that I can stand up two seconds after being thrown off the top of the cell, and that strikes are performed at hyper-ninja-speed that wouldn't make sense in the context of a fighting game starring superheroes, never mind a game about real athletes--just imagine if the punches were thrown this fast in Fight Night.
Wrestling games aren't going to get better until either AKI returns or Yukes wises up. Given the sad state of things, I have no idea which one is more likely.

I don't think either of those are gonna happen. Smackdown on PSX was born out of THQ's neccessity for a quick and cheap WWF cash in by using Yuke's Simple Series The Pro-Wrestling's engine which was terrible and watered down compared to the engine used in the New Japan(Toukon Retsuden) games. It's not really Yuke's fault as THQ is the one who sets what goes into the game and how fast it has to be done for the least amount of money possible.

Plus we gotta face the fact that THQ is making a shitload of money on a yearly upgrade of roster, music and entrances alone, which is what most of the stupid wrestling game fans want, so they see no reason to change their ways. Most fans only care about watching John Cena walk down the ramp to his music, doing his poses, and overcoming the odds with his finisher, regardless of how bad or sub par the gameplay is.

Thanks, you just SHATTERED my dream of having a new decent wrestling game...

...but the Backyard Wrestling team?!?! When the hell are developers gonna learn?

Is THQ spoiling the results of WM with those screenshots?

Cena and Rey are the top two faces in the WWE, so I really doubt it.*

*I thought that too, and it makes me sad. :(

Ah, I guess this world exclusive wasn't bad if you're a fan of wrestling. I'm not into it, though :(

Looks pretty good though.

Oh man, all I can think about is making El-Odrion and laying the smackdown online. And it makes me hard.

(Looks great!)

This is the fucking truth.

Even RPGs have physics engines now. Wrestling games need to catch up about 10 years.

I'd like Yuke's to incorporate that nice soft lighting/self-shadowing feature from Rumble Roses into this game.

Seriously though, if you told me "those are PS2 models," I would have believed you -- the modeling in SvR2006 on PS2 is astoundingly good, but HD resolutions really make it shine.

Because as reviewers and fanboys alike need to understand, they're not "real people" and they're not the MAJORITY, they're the MINORITY.

And real people buy wrestling games, the same way real people buy Barbie, The Sims, and Star Wars versus devs, forum dwellers, fanboys and reviewers who love Psychonauts, and God of War.

It's just the way the real world works.

I personally could give a toss about wrestling, but I bet 6 million people out there think otherwise, no matter how it looks.

Here's a thought for you...
how about you shut the fuck up. You clearly knew shit about you were talking about and it go thrown back in your face. So was there a reason for you get all pissy like a menstral bitch? No..not really.

As for my replying methods. You must have me confused with someone else.

As for the early screens that are shown here along side of the DOR2 shots there's a clear separation. DOR2 doesn't look anywhere that good in motion of even on a TV screen. Even with JUST these 2 early test models it far surpasses the current efforts. the real test will how it moves.

lol, I better watch out or you might get worked up and cut another wrestling promo on me, little guy.

I didn't get "pissy." I made a dumb mistake in my haste (dumb, only based on aspect ratio mind you, otherwise the games look extremely similar and that's not my fault). However, being patronized for it and being called a "kid" by someone like you is a little annoying. I mean, excuse me if I, gasp, skim through a thread and happen to think I'm going to find screens of the game the thread was created about.

Anyway, the big news here is that it's multiplatform and that's what I'm happy about. It never made much sense to have seperate development teams create abysmal crap for the Xbox when they could have just made the Smackdown series multiplatform. Otherwise, I don't expect much from the first next generation attempt. After all, the JBI on the Playstation 2 didn't offer a huge leap over the PSX series. It should still be good fun online though with there being no cheat devices to spoil the fun on Xbox Live.
