PS4 5 Big Takeaways [GT Needs a show with this guy]

So he took away only 5 negative things from the press event? I guess it's easier to be funny when you're working with material about poking fun about flaws. It probably wouldn't be very funny if he talked about how great some of the features or games were.

yeah pretty sure it's supposed to be a joke video not an actual analysis of the conference :P

At least that's what I think.

i think knack being shown first is out of respect for cerny, him being a vet in the industry and the lead designer of the PS4 architecture.

You can be humorous without being cynical. It's harder, but better.

He wasn't being cynical at all. Far, far from it.

Made legitimate points with constructive criticism (and one positive point), was funny and insightful and made it clear he was excited for the system.

His comment about how David Perry was talking about all the features like they're coming, but they don't know when is entirely true. At this point, those features look good, but how many are going to be at launch?

I'm staying realistic with what Sony is going to do here. If they manage to get any of the Gaikai stuff up at launch, then I'll be surprised but I wouldn't be shocked if it's planned a year or so out after launch.

"Did you play any new ccccontent last night?" lol

Totally agree. Exclusive content is almost a dirty word if you ask me.

That part made me laugh. However I disagree with view on that media molecule game. The video of what they were doing just didn't doing it for me. And this guy said people weren't thinking lame, when I watched this on PSHome in the theatre as soon as it was displayed the first word that came to my mind was lame, I'm not even joking lol, and others typed that aswell. Idk maybe that's just my experience. But games like shadowfall and that racing game, those had people talking atleast on PShome.

Alright, from now on I'm going to avoid all official announcement streams and videos just so I can watch this guy recap them.

I liked the conference, but I wouldn't be too down on anything just yet. You know E3 is what they are gearing up for and same goes for MS and Nintendo.

People have short memories. If E3 blows you away, no one will remember this conference. Not many people remember the horrible MTV thing with 360.

He is probably right about the transitional period but these aren't all of the games for the PS4 yet, not even close.

With that said, I love this guy and these videos.

I think they probably should have done a live demo instead of a trailer for it.

Let him play the game, show off the new controller touch stuff and have Cerny point out some of the pretty technical graphics stuff and close by sharing the gameplay session to the official PlayStation facebook page.

Just rolling that trailer was a weird thing to do for the first official PS4 game.

I like the style of the game though. Its like a old PS1 game but new. Reminds me of Spyro and Crash which makes sense I guess.

i like #4
#4 is spot on.
#4 is very true
People aren't talking enough about #4. Third-parties are hedging their bets due to an expected slow uptick in install base for these next-gen platforms.

Because of that it's going to be a largely self-fulfilling prophecy that gamers won't be motivated to upgrade right away because they can play all of these third-party games on their existing consoles... to say nothing of other anticipated current-gen titles like GTAV, The Last of Us and Beyond.

We are compelled to pay $400-500 or more to upgrade to a new system because it offers us unique gameplay experiences we can't get anywhere else. Not only are we apparently not getting those experiences from next-gen exclusives like Killzone 4... third-parties aren't even broaching that scenario by still giving current-gen owners the majority of their love.

Almost seems like a foregone conclusion that the Xbox 360 will be the top-selling console for holiday 2013... barring a Nintendo revival with WiiU and a triple threat attack of 3D Mario, Mario Kart and a WiiU price drop.

I mean isn't that how new gens start? This feels pretty standard to me, publishers aren't going to stop making games for this gen, but will have next gen versions with noticeable improvements like density in watch_dogs.

I found the video funny anyway.

Agree. I applaud them for always trying something different and unique, but whatever it was they were doing looked fun for maybe 60 seconds until you just stop and go, "Why?"

Wow that was really good. Honest and critical without being too negative or cynical. And funny too, which is a bonus.

Be interesting to see if his popularity increasing causes his honesty to get censored a little.

Doritos and all that.

"Hey did you download some new CONTENT last night?!"
"Do you have KNACK on your PS3?!"

:lol :lol :lol

I thought the Media Molecule point is spot on and not just humour. Truly was one of the highlights of the meetings. And the bit about the PS4 not feeling real yet without the hardware shown is also perfect. Is this guy new? I've only seen him in the PS4 what not to do video thus far and this.

Ok seriously I think that Nate guy from Sucker Punch just made a meme.

(insert what if) "but what if we had superheroes." Lol I need to make a meme like that because that is golden.

he made a lot of great points that I didn't really consider due to my initial hype. Hopefully Sony brings it at E3. This PS Meeting was a good start in the right direction for them. Their pressers are usually boring and awful. Cerny should be their spokesperson in the future.

This guy is great, but omigod omigod he dared complain about them not actually showing the console, the games, or what gaikai can actually do. His point about seeing an actual product gets you attached to it is very valid. I hope he does the Microsoft reaction video too. I have a feeling they'll provide him a lot more opportunity for humor.

Don't know if this guy (Kyle) has a GAF account or if he will even read this, but I definitely enjoyed the slight humor interjected with the critique.

He seemed pretty genuine at points that he really thought the stuff he was saying was the truth even if some of what he said was for humor. Almost like he works as part of the industry because he loves doing it and wants to see it be better and succeed. Not just some guy in a suit looking for the next big money maker.

He made very good points though and I definitely think more people should watch what he says and realize them.

Some people have said it already too, but number 4 is huge and I hope it doesn't come to bite hardware in the butt early on. As hardcore as I am posting on a message board devoted solely to games, I watched the conference with my friend and immediately said the biggest thing I didn't expect was the cross generation development that more people are doing than just Bungie with Destiny.

I wonder how much we will really see with this going forward.

i wanted to dislike this.
But dude was spot on.

I disagree about media molecules thing being awesome though

I tend to agree with this as well because I thought it was a strange thing and maybe I would just say it differently. I will say though that the Media people are getting up there and just trying something unique and different and that I respect. My art major buddy (graphic designer) seemed to think it was a cool idea. So maybe I'm (and a decent chunk of GAF?) just the wrong target for it.

I don't think he was highlighting their presentation because he was enthused about sculpting with Move controllers so much as he was keying in on the valid point of they decided to come out and have fun with what they were showing. And they did.

A new console gen is a big deal and it would have been refreshing to see more of the old guys in suits debuting everything having a blast. (Although the DriveClub guy was probably having a little TOO much fun for his segment.)
