Alright, here are the games I've played so far:
Killzone Single-Player: 6/10
The game looks beautiful at 1080p, and there are some cool sequences, but overall I found the story to be bland and forgettable. Also
.
Killzone Multi-Player: 8/10
Had lots of fun with this so far, love that you get all weapons and maps from the start without having to unlock everything. I've put a good number of hours into this and it's really enjoyable. I get confused easily on maps but that's probably more my fault since I have no sense of direction.
Knack: 7/10
Not a bad game by any means, it looks really nice visually. I love the whole feel of it, the gameplay is great and it's actually harder than you think. Does have framerate issues and it's a bit repetitive, also the story isn't much. Still, it's nice for a launch platformer/beat-em-up (more of the latter) and deserves more than the hate/dislike it gets from reviews.
Resogun: 9/10
Game looks stunning, the voxels and particle effects are mindblowingly gorgeous. Hours of fun with this one, 1080p/60 is really nice as well. Not confusing or hard to follow despite so much being onscreen.
Flower: 9/10
This game looks GREAT in 1080p at 60fps. Pair that with the DS4's updates motion sensors, and it's a really spectacular experience. It's not quite like other games, it really needs to be played to be understood. But even with its simplicity, it has such charm and tranquility that makes it infinitely replayable, not because of great story or gameplay, but because of that state of mind you find yourself in when you play.
NBA 2K14: 8/10
Trounces NBA Live in every way. I admit I don't have much to compare it to as I haven't played a basketball game in years, but graphically it looks next-gen for sure, 2K did an amazing job modeling the real players (most of them, at least). Animations, lighting, textures, etc. all shine and the player interview feature is cool as well. Gameplay seems fine for a basketball game, lots of options. I do sometimes pass the ball to the wrong guy, which is annoying when the shot-clock is running out. Again, I'm not one to comment much on that because I don't know a lot about basketball or basketball games. But, I picked it up knowing very little going into it and I'm definitely satisfied, it's tons of fun.
AC IV Black Flag: 7/10
Graphics with the 1080p/AA patch look great, really crisp on a large TV. Framerate seems solid, pirates are cool. It's, well, another AC game, I'm not a huge fan of the series but it's fun enough. Haven't tried MP yet.
Sound Shapes: 9/10
Played this one on the Vita already, but it looks great on PS4--1080p/60 I believe. Really cool idea for a game, you just have to see the Beck Cities level and you'll understand how unique and creative this game really is. PS4 version is a good port, everything runs fine and everything's there.
Contrast: 7/10
I really enjoyed Contrast, the shadow shifting element is lots of fun to play around with, the artstyle fits so well, and the music is sublime. I admit the story got to me a bit, too. That said, there are numerous bugs and glitches throughout the game--you can shift into walls you're not supposed to, you'll clip through things you shouldn't be standing on, you get stuck a lot (sometimes fixable by dashing, sometimes needs a restart), etc. The bugs don't make the game unplayable or unbeatable, but, you will notice them when they happen. The story also kind of tapers off towards the end, making it a little bit confusing. However, I also enjoyed the hands-off approach with the story. It allowed you to piece together the narrative through your own exploration and findings, rather than telling you outright what was happening. Still, just a little bit more at the end would have been nice to make sense of it all. The puzzles were fun and none were too hard that I couldn't eventually figure out what to do, but many had just the right amount of difficulty, in terms of solving the puzzle or the skill required to get through it.
I may have launch blinders on what with all the money I just spent, but, overall I'm really pleased so far with the games on PS4 and 1080p on so many games gives you that much more visual clarity and crispness than on PS360 games. Every purchase, I feel, has been a good one so far, and I'm really excited to see what comes next!
