PS4: Game was already installed????

So I bought Ratchet and Clank (physical) via Amazon back when it was a new release, and while I redeemed the preorder DLC, I didn't play until recently and the game was still sealed. I unsealed the game and stuck the disc in, and it was instantly ready to play. I checked the data out of curiosity and the full game was installed. Of course everything was seamless and I never had any issues. What happened here? Did the preorder DLC trigger the whole game to download as a preinstall? Anyone have anything happen like this before? I'm still not sure how all this works. And yes, I'm required to have the disc in to play.

Have you tried to start a game? There might be an install wait time on the main screen.

Ya, this was actually a couple weeks ago and been meaning to ask for a while except I'm super lazy, I'm on the last stage now, never had an issue. Just wondering why it was already/instant install.

Based on the annoying way that PS4 differentiates between disc installs and digital installs, I don't think it preloaded the full game from the DLC. My guess would be that it just allocated that space for the disc install immediately even though it hasn't finished.

These disc installs often take mere seconds for me. Maybe you just missed it?

Game starts early installing just prerequisites. Then installs the rest while You play - that's how PS4 was advertised from the beginning, yet only Sony - related titles seem to use this option (bar few others)

That would make sense. Sorry for my not knowing this stuff and Google wasn't helpful.

The whole game installs within mere seconds from disk, its the patches that takes time based on your internet speed. You can delete an install file of a game you've nearly completed, then load up the disk and load your save and you'll see that you don't have to wait more than few seconds to start playing again from where you left off.

No, the initial install that allows you to start playing takes only seconds. The full game disc install takes a whole lot longer, but is done while you play.

Yea that sounds like what happened with the OP. Now if the OP had removed the install and then tried to load a save that's 60% of the way through, there would be a wait for that
