Ps4 HDD is already near full :/

I got a question....

so, I have been planning to upgrade my harddrive on my ps4, but I have a lot of games I got from PS+ every month.

if I switch out the harddrive...will I be able to redownload all those PS+ games I got from previous months?
You'll be fine, man. If you "purchased" the PS+ games, they are yours forever as long as you have PS+.

Just ran out of space today. Decided to splurge on a Seagate 2TB hard drive.
Will convert my old drive into an external to dump important files from my laptop onto when I trade up for a new one later this summer.

Sorry guys but this is really not a issue.

You don't have to play 13 games at one time.
If you have sucky Internet, then you must probably use discs.
Install times on PS4 are really quick.

by the end of the generation, games will be about 100GB after patches/ dlc.

500GB is not enough.

I've had my PS4 exactly 2 weeks and I've just had to delete my first game.

What I'm wondering is, is it possible to delete just the game install and not the patches? Because fuck downloading some of these patches again with the piss poor PSN speeds. And the thought of upgrading the hard drive and having to download everything again gives me a headache.

Announcing external storage support right now would be pretty nice.

I'm running with a 500GB SSD and I'll never understand those with storage problems. I never play more than two or three games at the same time (usually just one) and I delete them after I'm finished, which in my case is when I've got the platinum.

Bought an external 2tb last month, ripped it out of its shell and put it into the PS4.

Its worth it.

I didn't copy anything. Just made a full backup when I went off to work, was done when I returned. Everything will be as it was when you took out the stock drive.

I'll be completely happy uninstalling the disc based games I have if I can keep the patches, it's that which keeps me from doing so. Plus a lot of my games are ones you don't really stop playing completely, Destiny, Bloodborne, Drive club etc.

I don't know for sure.
I highly recommend buying 2 of these hard drives, reformat one to exFAT, and use the other to backup your PS4s hard drive.

You will need to rip apart one of the hard drives that you will then use in your PS4, but you can do it in a way that will save the case, and leave it in a usable state to put the 500GB hard drive in its place and use it as an external.

Here is a video on how to rip it apart.

Deleting patches isn't possible on PS4.

You can do a full system backup to an external drive avoiding the need to re-download everything.

I upgraded to 1TB 7200 rpm drive yesterday (not looking at 2TB until someone other than Samsung/Seagate makes one)

To expedite the process I only backed up my top 5 games in rotation. My system backup was around 150gb, taking just under 3 hours to backup.

2 sounds like a bit of overkill. A cheap 500gb is good enough for a full backup (my backup was 380gb or so and worked). I already had such one, so I needed to buy only 1 2tb to do it all.

I also had to convert the stock HDD to MBR and give it a name at disk management after doing that. But its a nice spare 500gb, which makes the external drive option even cheaper.

It's bullshit that the X1 and ps4 came with such small amounts of storage.

I was in the same boat, but thankfully dropped a 2tb in each console. Best decision I've made this generation.

When I wanted to return to Destiny I was greeted by a 2gb update which took me well over 3 hours on current PSN unless I babysit it. I don't want to endure that. I rather keep everything on the drive unless I sell it off.

Also had to remove Battlefield 4 which is 100gb if you have all premium stuff. 500 is a joke. Its like a Vita 8gb card or so.

The Witcher 3 update patches keep sneakily eating up my remaining hard-drive space, but since since I'm rather fond of W3, we cool.

It is alarming how quickly all the updates add up for various games, though.

Mine is full soon but hasnt bothered me yet. I will probably upgrade in a few year. So far whats taking space is a lot of generic forgetful PS plus games. The VITA storage has been a bigger annoyance since every game app has savegames attached to it.

Yep, not being able to keep the patches combined with the slow PSN speeds (it took me 3 hrs to download the small Wolfenstein patch yesterday) increases the storage problem. Ideally they'll split the data into game and update and allow external HDD support.

Got rid of the original HDD early on. Was not enough

Got a 2TB for it and now I don't even think about deleting stuff. I still have KZ SF installed and I haven't even played it since the new HDD is in.

Can't see it any other way, just BF4 alone is almost 90GB

Drive is easy to swap if you need more space.

I don't replay games often, so I just delete most after beating them so 500gb should remain plenty to me. Not a big deal to download again if I want to play something again down the road since my internet is pretty decent.

I put in a 2TB drive right away and only have about 650GB left, and that's after deleting about 10 games. If you have a lot of games, you really can't escape having to delete installs (and patches).

This works, but the disk itself is kind of on the slow side. I switched to a hybrid instead. I can't go back to the normal load times now.

I've got a 1TB hybrid in mine. I'll eventually switch out when an equally speedy 2TB hybrid gets around 100 bucks. I can afford to wait until then even if it takes awhile.

I got a 2TB drive last week for £70. Piece of cake to install, and neater than having a giant 3.5" HDD plugged in. Do the same - you won't regret it.

When backing up the data of my current ps4. Does the external HDD need to be empty?

I have another 1 TB external HDD with around 700 Gb of free space and would like to use it, but don't want to lose any data on it of course.
